Corporate social responsibility (CSR), is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model. Normally, corporate social responsibility will serve as a built-in, self-regulating mechanism, allow enterprises to monitor and ensure their support for law, moral standard & international standard. Therefore, enterprises willing to the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and the public sphere of activities of all other members of the impact of the responsibility. This corporate also encourage growth and development of public interest. Supporter believes that a strong corporate business for CSR, in that corporation will be gaining multiple ways of long-term benefit instead of short-term profits.
1.2 Brief History of Company Shell
In 1833, Marcus Samuel opened a shop in London selling seashells, slowly develop to a bigger import and export business. He predicts an opportunity to sell abroad oil for lamps and cooking to the Eastern. He made the first oil tank in 1892, delivered 4,000 tones kerosene to Bangkok and Singapore. By 1896 Shell have it own tanker convoy to compete with the British. In 1907, Royal Dutch or Shell Group was established to combine its operations all over the world. During the 20th century, the Group’s purchase to develop in Americas, Africa and Europe. This are the thrilling times for the oil industry, as large-scale production of vehicle create a new gigantic market. In 1919, Alcock and Brown made the first flight across the Atlantic, however the fuel is powered by Shell, at the same time Shell Aviation Service was established. During the 1920s and 1930s expansion years, Shell begin with new region and new industry sector, the first project for beginning of chemicals was started at 1929. However at the 2nd world war, Shell lost their business, tanker and properties, luckily supported by Government with fuel supplies and chemical production. After the Second World War, effort began to replace and expand Shell’s facilities for manufacture, transport and distillation to meet the new pressures on exact. Primary changes have occurred and continue to be made in the Shell Group to guarantee that it retains its competitive benefit. These changes contain the fusion, in July 2005, of the relative companies of Royal Dutch and Shell Transport under the company, Royal Dutch Shell plc.

They aim to work personally with their customers, and policymakers to lead more efficient and sustainable use of energy and natural resources.

Shell believe biodiversity early in new projects, develop biodiversity action plans, and work together with biodiversity experts to help protect areas with rich and insubstantial eco-systems. Shell work with and learn from more than 100 scientific and protection organizations in 40 countries. This includes shell global joint-venture partnership agreements with major environmental organizations. Shell signed partnerships with the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2007, with Wetlands International in 2008 and with The Nature Conservancy in 2009 The partnerships support increased biodiversity protection in the energy sector and help businesses like Shell exertion more closely with biodiversity experts.

Shell employed around 30,000 technical employees in centres across the world. From scientists to business experts, shell employees and contractors work to deliver our research and development programme – finding inventive solutions to the world’s energy challenge. Around 10% of our technical staff carry out research and development at our technology centres located in 11 countries. Engineers, geologists, physicists, chemists and mathematicians work alongside biologists, anthropologists, and environmental, financial and commercial experts. Their knowledge, creativity and ideas help us to meet the world’s growing need for energy in a socially and environmentally responsible way.
2.3 Social Responsible Investor
Contributing to sustainable development is essential to the way we do business and influence our choice of merchandise and collection. As we are help to meet the world’s rising energy requirements, we are aimed to bring profit to local communities and diminish the collision of our operations. Shell General Business Principle work over 30 years due to their core values of honestly, reliability and respect for people. Shell publishs their sustainability report to the investor once a year. There is certain guideline and standards help to shape Shell business environment. They aim to less fatality and to avoid accidents to people and neighbors. They able to recognize the risk of climate change, taking action by themselves instead of calling by governments.
Shell company-large HIV/AIDS programme state that they will not distinguish anyone affected by HIV/AIDS. This programme also provide or arrange medical treatment for employees and staff who are affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as participate in education and prevention programmes for employees and their families.
Shell plan to create enduring partnerships with linked local and global organizations and other company to fight the HIV/AIDS disease together in the communities where they run and sell their products and services. Shell include HIV/AIDS in their impact evaluate and have a monitoring programme in situate to measure the progress of their hard work.

In the other hand, if the company have positive citizen image instead of negative, it have the possibility to increase its profit. Corporate Social Responsibility is a necessary element of the assets creation process. This is the suitable way to contribute to the environment for next generation or even the future generation. However, wealth can be created more easily in a company that has more positive citizen image.

It brings us further closer to the facts about Shell, and enable us to get more knowledge on how Shell is all about, for example the history behind the company, their vision and mission towards the company and sorts. Thus, without knowing it, it directly explain the true meaning of what corporate social responsibility is, on how Shell contribute to the community out there in either mentally or physically. Therefore, Shell makes a positive impact to the community as well as in the business facets.
