Elaborating further, all organisms need to maintain a balanced environment in order to sustain metabolism in the cell that is highly essential to life. When the internal environment of a given organism is disturbed, then it's possible that there would be a disruption in the normal processes. One best example to explain this phenomenon further is how the body adapts to the change in body temperature by performing actions that balance out. If a person is feeling cold, then involuntarily he/she will be inclined to shiver which, causes the muscles to generate heat or if you are feeling hot, then the person's body releases sweat that helps in the evaporation of heat from the body. When a change occurs, there are two main kinds of feedback:
A. Negative feedback
This is the most common method of how the body regulates most systems. Negative feedback is a reaction method in which the system counters the situation in a negative/reverse direction of change. Since this has the motive to keep things balanced, it allows for the state of equilibrium, homeostasis. For example, when the concentration of CO2 in the human body significantly increases, the respiratory organs are made ready to act to increase their activity and expel out more CO2. Body temperature-regulation as discussed earlier, is another common example of negative feedback. When body temperature increases, the receptors of the skin and the hypothalamus sense a difference, this triggers a signal from the brain. This signal form the brain causes the body to start sweating and to start dilating the blood vessels to decrease the body temperature.
B. Positive feedback
This is a response to amplify the change that has occurred. And this gives a destabilizing effect, and so does not result in homeostasis. The Positive feedback mechanism is fairly less in number compared to negative feedback, but it has its applications and does serve a purpose, particularly when a particular response needs to be increased. For instance, take the case of child birth, the child is born and emerges out of the uterus, by the continued pressure of the uterus walls, the walls contract themselves, and push further and further till the child is born. This contraction of the uterus is triggered by a hormone called oxytocin which is secreted by the hypothalamus gland. This hormone is released to stimulate the uterus to contract itself. Now we must know that, this hormone is only released when it senses that there is a pressure on the cervix (the exit neck of the womb). So the more the body senses pressure on the cervix, the more is the oxytocin released, and the more the oxytocin correspondingly the more will be the uterus contraction, and the more is the contraction correspondingly the more will be the pressure on the cervix and thus more oxytocin is released and this cycle continues until the child is born. This is a wonderful example of a positive feedback control system.

1. Set point: The set point is a preset level that is required for the body to be in its normal condition. For instance, there is set point for the body heat and sugar levels.
2. Integrating center: When a change occurs with respect to a particular set point, then the receptive sensors will detect the deviation and send a signal to the Integrating center.
3. Effectors: The effectors ensure that the set point is maintained. Muscles and glands then function as effectors to ensure that the set point is restored to the normal level.
4. Analogy: An Ironing box thermostat has a predefined set temperature like a set point. The cell is the smallest basic unit that can be found in every living organism. All organisms are made up of an assemblage of one or more cells. There organisms can be categorised into two types: single cell and multi-cellular organisms. Single cellular organisms are also known as unicellular organisms as they are made up of a single cell. And multi-cellular organisms are made up of several cells. And in such type of organisms, each cell have a specific function to perform.
Generally speaking, the cell consists of small constituents or parts called organelles. Some examples of organelles are Mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, nucleus, Ribosomes, etc. which are the equivalents of organs in our body. These organelles are produced out of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates, etc. And these carry out the function of producing energy in the form of ATP energy molecules. Besides these 13 elements, a few other elements like Silicon are also found in negligible quantities. The following list gives the proportion in which these various elements are present:

The body's largest organ is the skin. Organizational levels of the human body
At every level of the organizational framework, there is a division of function. Each constituent has its own function to perform in tandem with others. Even a single cell, if it loses its focus, it is bound to die.
The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of an organism. There are many different kinds of cells e.g. nerve cells, blood cells, muscle cells and fat cells.
The tissue is formed by the combination of several similar kinds of cells and they blend with the surrounding environment and work together to serve a
specific function. There are four types of tissues in the body, namely: epithelial,
connective, muscle and nervous tissue.
These are structures that are composed of two or more than two different kinds of tissues, each organ has a specific function & a clear shape. The liver is an example of an organ; it is made of tissues. The tissues work in concert to carry out its desired function.
A system is a collective team work effort made by several related organs that all serve to satisfy a common function. The human body has eleven organ systems in the body.
The systems of the body are each concerned with a particular function or a group of related functions. To understand how they work together to produce a complete person, we need to briefly consider the function of each system.
The skeletal system is composed of bones, and the cartilage and ligamentous structures associated with them. It protects and supports soft tissues and provides scaffolding for muscle attachment. The muscular system produces movement and is compose of muscles, tendons and sheaths around muscles and lubricating sacs.
The nervous system collects and analyzes information about the environment and internal body function and controls and coordinates body function. The nervous system consists of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord); the peripheral nervous system, which includes all the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord; and the autonomous nervous system, which controls the automatic internal function of the body and partially overlaps with the peripheral and central nervous systems.
Another system which is also concerned with control of the internal body function is the endocrine system, which uses circulating chemical messengers called hormones to exert its effects. The hormones each have a specific function to satisfy in a given situation.
The circulatory system is responsible for the transport of nutrients to various parts of the body by the help of the heart which pumps the blood. And the blood vessels like the arteries, veins and capillaries ensure that the nutrients reach the desired parts of the body in the most efficient manner. This system is also responsible for waste removal and the transport of some special proteins like hormones and some cells, around the body.
The lymphatic system is a another significant transport system of the body. It is responsible for moving extra tissue fluid back to the vein system and ensuring that the fat gets transported from the gut back to the bloodstream. This system is also responsible for defending the body from diseases, i.e. it plays the role of the immune system.
The respiratory system is responsible for the adequate supply of fresh oxygen to all the cells of the body for its metabolic activities. Whereas the digestive system is concerned with the consumption, assimilation and absorption of nutrients, as well as the removal of the by-product wastes.
The urinary system is used to control the fluid and salt level in the human boy system and it excretes the unwanted toxic wastes. The reproductive system is concerned with the production of off-spring. This system is deeply concerned with the fertilization of the egg and its various developmental stages.

By being familiar with these terms, it would be easier for us to understand the subject better in the upcoming unit/chapters.
Terms referring to direction
The Directional terms help us to understand a structure in relation to a particular part of the body.
Superior or cranial - Upper part of the body; head portion
Inferior or caudal - Lower part of the body; below head
Anterior or ventral - front
Posterior or dorsal - back
Medial - toward the midline of the body
Lateral - away from the midline of the body
Proximal - toward or nearest the trunk or the point of origin of a part
Distal - away from or farthest from the trunk or the point or origin of a part
Anterosuperior - in front and above
Anteroinferior - in front and below.
Anterosuperior - in front and above.
Posteroinferior - behind and below; in back & below
Posterolateral - behind and to one side, specifically to the outside.
Cephalad - related to the head.
Caudal - related to the tail.
Superficial - related to the surface.
Deep - related to the internal parts.
Anatomical position - standing erect, facing the observer, arms are at the sides with palms facing forward.
Prone - the body lying face downward; stomach lying
Supine - lying on the back; face upward position of the body
Volar - relating to palm of the hand or sole of the foot
Plantar - relating to the sole or undersurface of the foot
Terms referring to planes of the body
Anatomical planes and its various kinds: The anatomical planes are imaginary flat surface planes that pass through the body . This can enable us to have different directional platforms for viewing the various internal organs of the body.
Coronal Plane or Frontal Plane
This vertical plane runs from one side to the other side dividing the body into anterior and posterior portions.
Sagittal Plane or Lateral Plane
This vertical plane runs from front to back dividing the body into right & left.
Axial Plane or Transverse Plane
This horizontal plane divides the body into upper and lower.
This is a Sagittal plane that runs through the midline of the body and it divides the body into equal right and left halves.
Terms referring to body cavities
The spaces that the internal organs of the body occupy are known as cavities. The two main cavities are: ventral and dorsal. The ventral cavity is larger than the dorsal cavity. The ventral cavity is again subdivided into two parts namely thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities, these two are divided by the diaphragm which is a respiratory muscle that has the shape of a dome.
1. Thoracic cavity
The organs found in the chest are found in the Thoracic cavity. This cavity contains the ribs which is enclosed by the costal pleura and the diaphragm caudally which is enclosed by diaphragmatic pleura.
2. Abdominal and pelvic cavity
The lower cavity of the body is also known as the ventral cavity. The lower part of the ventral cavity is divided into two parts, the abdominal part and the pelvic part. The abdominal cavity contains the kidneys, the adrenal glands. It is cranially bound by the dome-shaped diaphragm, and it is laterally enclosed by the body wall and caudally enclosed by the pelvic cavity. The pelvic cavity contains the urinary and genital related organs. The pelvic cavity is enclosed cranially by the abdominal cavity and dorsally enclosed by the sacrum, and finally it is laterally covered by the pelvis.
3. Dorsal cavity
This contains the organs which are more posterior in the body. The dorsal cavity is divided into two parts. The upper part is the cranial cavity, it contains the space for the brain, and the lower cavity is the vertebral cavity, and it contains the space for the spinal cord.
