Charlemagne

Charlemagne (2 April 742 AD – 28 January 814 AD) was a medieval emperor. He was the Kings of the Franks from 771 – 814. Charlemagne was a very important figure in the medieval period. He spread Christianity, promoted education and encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance. In 800, Pope Leo III (750-816) crowned Charlemagne emperor of the Romans. In this role, he encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance, a cultural and intellectual revival in Europe. The continuity was the church, whose power remained in Rome. Roman aristocrat furnished the western church with leadership. Pope Gregory I (c. 540–604) administered the church with strict reform. He represents the shift from the classical to the medieval outlook. His popular writings are full of dramatic miracles, potent relics, demons, angels, ghosts, and the approaching end of the world.

Charlemagne influenced the church in a lot of ways. He spread Christianity throughout the whole of Europe from when he became the emperor of the Romans. He also gave money to the popes to build Christian churches and protected the popes in times of war. Charlemagne promoted education in Europe and even had a school in his palace, which recruited the best teachers in the land. He encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance which is a period in the Middle Ages that represented the revival of scholarship. Education was one of the most significant events that Charlemagne followed. All fo these significant events happened when Charlemagne became the first emperor of the Romans in 800. Charlemagne started to really follow education when he became King of the Franks in 771. Charlemagne’s endless conquers lead him into contact with different cultures and learnings. Mainly, Moorish Spain, Anglo-Saxon England, and Lombard Italy. He took promoting the liberal arts at the court, ordering that his children and grandchildren be well-educated, studying himself and took an interest in scholarship. The Carolingian Renaissance was an important part of the education reform. Classical Latin were copied and preserved by Carolingian scholars. It is approximately certain that a text that survived to the Carolingian age encounter still.

I think that the Carolingian Renaissance was created to improve the ancient culture complicated in the Frankish empire during the reign of the Carolingians. The best contributions to society during the Carolingian Renaissance was the Carolingian minuscule. The script was a simplified reading by introducing capital and lowercase letters and spaces for the first time. I think that the script was introduced capital and lowercase letter and spaces for the first time because they were trying to avoidthe use of complicated ligatures. The reason why Charlemagne caused the Carolingian renaissance/ minuscule were not just that the people were getting confused with the use of complicted ligatures, but that also to increase the literature, writing, the arts, architecture, jurisprudence, liturgical reforms, and scriptural studies that we use today. The motive was just his success and having more achievements to his name than the others.

The people that were affected because of the Carolingian Renaissance was mostly a small group of the court in every city that Charlemagne went to with the Carolingian. Charlemagne expanded the reform program of the church. The deepening of the spiritual life was later to be seen as central to public policy and royal governance. Some key changes that occurred in the church regards to its role in the world were his reform focused on the strengthening of the church’s power structure, advancing the skill and moral quality of the clergy, standardizing liturgical practices, improving on the basic tenets of the faith and moral, and rooting out paganism. His authority was now extended over church and state. The Carolingian also helped by giving us new literature, writing, the arts, architecture, jurisprudence, liturgical reforms, and scriptural studies which have improved over the many thousands of years since it was created and still improving them today.
