A Student's Future Employment Plans

Throughout my life, I had been attracted to science, technology and a hunger for knowledge, knowledge about anything and everything. I was always good at analytical reasoning and mathematical skills, always looked at the big picture without forgetting the important statistical details. After my college, I had decided that I would be pursuing my bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology and after that management because at that time this combination was considered as the best combination as it is today. One day I want to be self employed and generate employment for others too and help my country. The global world and its free trade or business has always been fascinating for me, having a love for learning about all other cultures and societies of the world. I consider that the whole world, planet earth, is a person’s home and that, he should not be bound by the barriers of country, race or religion but reach out for other people as there is always something to be learnt or shared. The world cannot survive or thrive without business. I am very much interested in the workings of world economies, macroeconomics, international trade, business and foreign exchange and I want to make a good niche in the same.

The word motivation for me is simple, that if you influence from anybody’s work and you also want to do the same to achieve your goal is called motivation. I had been through many books but at the end, I have reached to one of theory of motivation by American psychologist Abraham Maslow, he argues that we have seven innate needs for motivation in fifth one, he said “Self Actualization Needs: for development of capabilities to the fullest potential” in that he said, mental process that lead people to pursue particular goal. So I relate myself with this theory and I agree with him to some extent that person who has some desire or get influence form someone and want to achieve that is his motivation in life to do something(ORGINISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR by HUCZYNSKI BUCHANAN pg no 55 & 56 ). Besides learning electronics and telecommunication engineering, I also learned economics in my second year of engineering that creates my interest in world economics and finance. At the same time in my second year, I entered in share marketing and my uncle was my motivation. It was tough at starting but as time passed it became very interesting. “Goldman Sachs and Corporation” that is the biggest motivation of my life to start my own company of investment banking and start providing all the facilities to the people of different ages. I studied all about the Goldman Sachs that how Marcus Goldman a German immigrant and his son-in-law started this big firm in the year 1869 and now they are the biggest banking financial services in the world. They provide various products to the world which includes investment banking, prime brokerage, investment management, commercial banking and commodities and help big companies in the mergers and acquisitions advice, and asset management to its clients and around 35,400 employees working in this firm as per 3 Quarter 2010 information (reference GS.com). That inspired me to start my own company in the same field of banking financial services and lead the world in that field. But before doing all this, I need a good management knowledge and deep study of banking and finance and then only my dream will come true. After all these, I finally decided to study and complete my master’s degree in subject like Banking and Finance.

As I said earlier, I had always believed on the word globalization because of that, whole world is everybody’s home and they share knowledge and on the other hand it will generate employment. Sustainable Development that is eco-friendly and builds upon human resource and talent pool along with the natural resources that are renewable is always the cause of betterment of this world. Today maximum growth is occurring in Asia-Pacific but most of it is unsustainable. Back home (INDIA) I know the country has many economic problems including infrastructure shortage that need to be addressed but are being not. China had a huge real GDP growth of 16.8%, which leaves an Indian growth rate of 9% as moderate. Looking at the global picture, I have decided that U.K will be the best country for me to study further in business and finance field U.K is a father of business and finance so it is best country for me. In U.K, some of the universities are best in the whole world plus their contents are also outstanding. Along with stock exchange, foreign exchange has always attracted me; the ability to make quick decisions that will affect a lot of money is intriguing. With an aim of studying finance in U.K, I started searching for good universities and my main intention to choose any university was its course content, so that I will get good value for the money. Then I started searching for universities and I founded Bangor University to be most desirable for me because of the good course content and also provide many facilities to their students. During that time I had been through many university sites and their fees structures, some of them were very expensive and also not having good course contents. At the last stage when finally decision taking time came, I have to decide a good one and now feeling that I had taken the right decision. Bangor University is the best university in U.K for Banking and finance studies. It has a vast variety of courses for students to choose and the modules of MBA Banking and Finance program is highly desirable. Most important is the Bangor city which is very beautiful and I experienced that the people here are very friendly and it is a student friendly place. During my research for Bangor University I have also heard from the seniors that it is the second cheapest city in UK to live and this is good from student’s point of view. Studying MBA (banking in Finance) from Bangor University will give me a global standing and impart me the skills I need to make a good niche in the finance and business world.

My motivation to take knowledge of management for achieving my goal encourages me towards learning. It sounds very weird but when I saw the meaning of learning in dictionary got one definition that the cognitive process of acquiring knowledge or skills is called as learning. My perception towards learning is somewhat same but that definition of dictionary gives me more clear view. The learning is divided into two parts, first one is behaviourist and second one is cognitive. Behaviourist theory argues that whatever we learn are the external muscle movements. As brain or mental processes are not directly observable, they are not considered valid issues for study. On the other hand cognitive theory states that what we learn are mental structure, and that mental processes are both important and are amenable to study and cognitive process is also called information processing.

Learning according to me transforms the life of an individual it gives an individual extra edge in life to change the things that he wants to. Learning plays an important role in every aspects of human’s life because without learning no one will be able to achieve his desired goal. There are mainly three types of learners, first is surface learner, second deep learner and third one is strategic learner. Every learner is having different approach towards learning. Surface learner have extrinsic type of motivation, his learning approach is not completely fit in definition of learning. He is failure in his own mind, not having any enthusiasm and interest towards learning or other work. He always memorises the things and if he unable to recover that he simply give up the things. His approach for any work is negative and considered as very narrow minded. Deep learners approach is of very intrinsic type. He is always interested in learning new things and being innovative at work. His intentions are always positive and learn things quickly. His process of examining the things is very fast and he is very personal type of learner. He is a deep thinker and gives the holistic outcome. This type of learner is considered as a meaningful learner. Strategic learner is full of achievements in life, always get good grades during studies and he is very competitive. He always thinks about competition and that is why he is very successful in his life. Whatever he does is in organised fashion and has some innovative way. He is a variable type of learner and depends on the other to do small work. Strategic learner is considered as an achiever. I consider myself as a deep learner because my perception towards studies is deep and wants to learn every time. The motivation of learning towards management, and to start my own business bring me to Bangor University so that I can achieve my goal and learn as many new things. We can also learn from many of the good personalities like Mohandas K Ghandi, Barack Obama, and Michel Phelps etc. that they have confidence which is a key to success. All above individuals had loads of confidence and self belief in individuals that determines success or failure. Many of us grew up thinking of mistakes as bad part, and viewing errors as evidence of fundamental, incapacity. This negative thinking pattern can create a self-fulfilling prophecy, which undermines the learning process. To maximise our learning it is essential to ask: “How can I get the most from every mistake made. I mean not only education, big degrees; it is all about experience and problems one can face during any work, studies or from any areas of life. When I started doing share marketing, at that time my knowledge was zero but as time passed I had been through many ups and downs, profits and loss but at the end I got very much familiar with the terminologies of share market and learn how to earn profits. Learning helps people whose skill levels are lower; who has bad memories in formal education helps them to learn and increases their confidence towards it. Informal education is also one of the steps and it leads to a better job because better learning leads to a better knowledge and allows a person to take a quick and tough decision in a life or during job. People do learning for their own intrinsic values not necessarily for qualification but for their personal fulfilment, stay active as well as independent. To challenge stereo types we need these all time for example during economic down turn.

Learning not only effect the individuals life but it also boosts national wealth, increases employment and helps during economic downturn. Learning brings revolution in the world of globalization and is also working in organization. Organizations keen to bring their influence and their expertise to share recourses to learn and are supporting new ways of learning including technology and broadcasting. Nowadays we have wider range of learning e-learning, distance education. E-learning brings revolution in the world of learning it is providing a practical approach to student and makes them to understand big theories very easily. Distance education is also a great boom in learning process, now any one can learn from any part of the world. Traditional knowledge is also in a great demand because nowadays new technologies had just diverted peoples mind from traditional knowledge, but some group of people still want to explore traditional knowledge and keep their present age familiar with it. Third age universities is increasing because of new technologies. Learning is an important part of our life and it makes every impossible thing possible if we learn that from our heart.

Group is defined as any number of entities which considered as a unit. In group any number of people would be there but the condition is that they should be interactive with each other and they should be aware of each other psychologically, So that they can adjust themselves to form a group and group should be work perfectly. According to Buchanan and Huczynski, the group is classified as formal group and informal group. Formal groups are those groups in an organisation which have been consciously created to accomplish the organisation’s collective purpose. These formal groups perform formal function such as getting work done, generating ideas, liaising and so on. The formal group are basically formed by the organisation and are officially responsible for it. An informal group is collection of individual who become a group when member develop inter dependencies, influences one another’s behaviour and contribute to mutual need satisfaction.

The group in which I am working is a formal type of group because it is task oriented and organisation has handed over some task to us. In formal group specific objective we get and every member have to achieve that by working as a unit. I had a good experience of working in group when I was in my final of engineering and our group made the project “STREET LIGHT MANIPULATION SYSTEM” which is based on the power saving technique. It was a very great experience for me to working in a group during that project and our project was a great success. Group influences the individual’s behaviour to working in a group and make every member to work according to their potential. Group is a path to get work done from an individual because of the group norms that everybody makes will put pressure in every member to do work. Group mainly comprises of N number of entities but group leader is very important part of any group because there should be one leader to lead the group, so it will get easier to communicate for group members, considering group leader as a medium. Leader plays an important role in group he binds all the group members with each other and forces them to get the work done in time. Group norms also shape the individual contribution to give output. Group can also be considered as security, protection and identity of an individual. Group acts as a protection to individual means it helps individual to work according to the need of a group. Group also acts as identity of an individual as everyone says that this belongs to that group. Group also helps in increasing individual knowledge in terms of culture, religion and fields. If in a group each member is from different culture and country then there will be sharing of culture and knowledge between group members result in increase in individuals knowledge. If in a group member belongs to different fields such as engineering, management, law etc will also helps a group to become the elite one. Group also improves the quality of work, motivation, communication skills and increases the productivity as well as creativity. Group also increases the leadership quality of an individual.

Working in a group has many advantages such as knowledge sharing, leadership quality, productivity etc but on the other hand it is also having many disadvantages like attitude problems between group members, lack of communication and irresponsibility about work. The behaviour and relationship of the group member with each other should be good otherwise it will lead to crises between each other and effects on the performance of a group. As I mentioned above that there should be one group leader required to handle a group but on the other hand its having some disadvantages also, that group leader should have leadership quality and know how to handle a group otherwise confusion will make a mess of a group and it will effect in group work. Every group member should be happy with the group leader to whom they are selecting. Every member should have equal participation so that everyone should feel happy that each member did the job as per the plan. Every group member should know the goal and achievements of group and work hard according to that, otherwise it will create miss understanding between each other. Decision making of a whole group should be same or it will prove harmful for the group’s unity

After writing all the details in this essay, I have reached to conclusion that in everybody’s life things such as motivation, learning and group work plays an important role. All the things are inter-related with each other. Every term is incomplete with each other like motivation comes from learning, if you are motivated from someone then you have to work hard and learn according to that. Working in a group will increase your chance of success in short period of time and you will get the exposure which you will need to lead in life. All these aspects will sharpen the mind of an individual, changes the perception to see world and an individual will comes out as a great personality. According to me motivation, learning and group work must be the ground rules of any organisation or individual for success. As I want to become an entrepreneur these terms will help me a lot in every stage of life.
