World War One
The world war one started in the year 1914 and ended in 1918. It was the first ever world war that took place in Europe to end all wars. About 40 milion people lost their lives. On an average, about 20 million civilian and milary deaths were reported by the sources.
The full blown immediate provocation for the world war one was the asssassination of the heir to the Austro- Hungrian throne that paved the way for another round of the bloody retaliation. The heir was Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was murdered on 28th of June, 1914. The famous murder was committed by a member of the young Bosnia and a Bosnian Serb citizen of Austria-Hungary, Gavrilo Princip.
So, it was this revenge of Austria-Hungary taken against Serbian Kingdom that led to the rapid changing of the equations and the forging of many new alliances in order to set the stage of the world war one. In addition to this, war declarations were declared as a result. Most of the Europe thus suffered the aftermath of this event and open war conditions started.
The two major alliances propagated the world war one. The first one consisted of the powers that contained an assemble of the associted empires of the countries Russia, the Unted Kingdom and the France. Mostof the countries joined these allies. In April 1915, it was Italy that joined these allies and finally in 1917, it was the United States of America that joined the brigade of alies.
The world war one also showed the rise of the Cenral Powers. This axis of Central powers was named so because of their central location on Europe. The associated empires of Austria-Hungary and Germany were the initial countries that consituted the powers. In October 1914, the Central Powers had an addition in the form of the Ottoman Empire. The coutry Bulgaria aso joined an year later. The only countries that officially remained neutral were Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the Scandinavian nations among the European countries.Though officialy neutral, many were engaged in the mutual exchange of material and financialsupport among each other.
Basically, duringthe world war one, thare were various fronts (that encircled the continent of Europe). The fortifications (475 miles on an average) led to a different style of trench warfare on the Western Front. The fight was large scale on the Eastern Front as well. Simltaneously, the ItalianFront, Middle Eastern Front and the Balkan Front also reported the fighting.
It was signing of the Treaty of Versailles that put a final lid on the world war one. This treaty was signed on 28th of June, 1919. The repurcussion of the world war was on the political map of the Europe that altered completely. New nations arose in the picture as the Central Powers faded. The worst economically hit was Germany that had to forego all its colonial powers. The break up of Austria-Hungary came in the form of the states like Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Austria finally. The dissolution of the Ottoman Empire has occurred with the Republic of Turkey coming into existence whereas the rest was divided among the allies. After its withdrawl from the war, the nations that came out from Russia were Poland, Lituania, Latvia, Finland and Estonia. Eventually, after world war one; an independent League of Nations was created that was to work at preventing any wars occuring in the future.
