Describing three leadership approaches starts out with task-oriented. The task-oriented approach is a high achieving productivity procedure used when an employee is assigned responsibilities based on their skill set. This approach allows the manager to pay attention to planning, coordinating and assigning tasks.  Chroncom (2019), explains that the task-oriented approach allows employees the sense of being valued based on their strengths, instead of feeling like their position in the company is unsuited for the tasks they are charged with completing.

People-oriented or employee oriented behavioral leadership approach is an approach with an emphasis on the interpersonal relationships of workers. A leader displaying this quality doesn’t normally value a focus on productivity. Placing productivity pressure on an employee creates and increases anxiety and mutilate the employee’s ability to establish any bonds. People-oriented leaders are focused on connecting behaviors with the inner needs of the people they are working with.

The autocratic leadership is a style that is probably used more in the professional realm (Leadership-centralcom. (2019). Leadership-centralcom. (2019), go on to share that managers will incorporate this style the most in an attempt to gain control, in which most leaders will revert to using this authoritative style or at least give the perception that they are exerting such power. When selecting a prominent leader, identifying the dominant leadership style takes careful thought and consideration.

A prominent leader of our recent times is Steve Jobs.  Steve Jobs is probably one of the most prolific iconic transformational leaders who was able to give not only to the people who worked under his leadership but to the world. His passion for perfection, simplicity, and sophistication drove the company and encouraged everyone to achieve and strive for excellence. Through his transformational leadership style, he was able to encourage every employee who worked at Apple to look at not only their self-interests but to make sure that they challenged themselves to be able to perform to the best of their ability.  According to Bhasin (2017), transformational leadership is a style of leadership where the leader, together with the people who work for the company, is able to pinpoint the challenges ahead, identify resources available and build a long term vision for the team. This leader is constantly engaging and involving the employees to perform to the best of their abilities and grow professionally and personally in the process.

Two Situational Leadership Approaches

Fiedler’s contingency leadership model was based on the premise of group effectiveness and concentrated on the relationship between leadership and organizational performance. The leadership model primarily focused on a leader’s effectiveness with the contingency of how a situation presented itself. According to (Mindtoolscom. 2019), the model utilizes the mantra that there is no one best style of leadership, however, a leader’s effectiveness is based on the situation.

The development of the Path-Goal leadership model was to chronicle how leaders encourage and support their followers in achieving their goals. The theory is based on the premise that an employee’s perception of expectancies between his effort and performance is greatly affected by a leader’s behavior. The Path-Goal leadership model is a theory in part based on describing a leader’s style or behavior that best fits the employee and work environment in order to achieve a goal (Pathgoalcom. 2019).

Analyze their potential advantages over the behavioral leadership approaches

In analyzing the potential advantages of the two situational leadership approaches, they both recognize the effective methods utilized in influencing and motivating employees to complete tasks. According to Cote (2017), the leaders in each theory are effective in utilizing different methods for influencing and motivating employees in completion of tasks or goal attainment. However, the common denominator that is similar between all theories is the ability to utilize all levels of the organization and all types of tasks or projects. 

The best leaders are both transactional and transformational

Exploring both transactional and transformational leadership styles shares a blend and mixture of having a clear vision, courage, self-motivation, inspiration, knowing who your employees are, all while setting and complying with company goals and objectives. Linkedincom. 2019, reports that a blended leadership perspective is one that combines transactional and transformational leadership behaviors in which there has been evidence to show that employees who are led by both transformational leadership and transactional leadership not only perform well but also are satisfied with their company’s performance appraisal system.

Assess the four key behaviors of transformational leaders for inspiring employee

The four key behaviors of transformation leaders are individualized consideration which means that a leader gives attention to each follower’s needs in which this leader would be in the form of a mentor coach or guide. Intellectual stimulation is a key behavior because it aims to help in creating and enhancing creativity, and it actively seeks to promote autonomy and shared responsibility. Idealized influence charges leaders to be motivators for specific behavior. Inspirational motivation is a key behavior which allows leaders to have the ability to spark confidence, motivation and a clear sense of purpose, which provides the framework of inspirational motivation.
