Fist high black pride higher as this movement continue. The Black Panthers also called the Black Panther Party is a political organization that was founded in 1966 by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. This organization challenge police brutality against the African American community. The Black Panthers dressed in all black top to bottom.  The Black Panthers put together armed citizen patrols of Oakland. In 1968, the Black Panther Party had about 2,000 members. Another movement that is taking place is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In 1909 the NAACP was established, its known as America’s oldest and hugest civil rights organization. The Organization was created by white and black activists in New York City.  This is in response to the continues violence that’s against African Americans as seen today all over the world. This Group won major legal victories and today they have over 2,200 branches and half a million of members all over the world. As the Black Panthers use the pumping of the black fist with the phrase FIGHT THE POWER and the NAACP uses legislation and common laws to bring upon change for the black heritage. These two movements used different approaches but had one common goal. They Both have their own objectives, strengths and weakness.

Black Panthers objective was equality and fairness for the black people. The Black Panthers job was to give leadership to the people. Their goals were freedom of the black community. The Black panthers wanted the black community to be self-dependent which means to have its own values, cultures, power, and humanity. They didn’t want to be trampled over by whites they wanted to stand on equal grounds as whites. The Black panthers were trying to so hard to reach their goals, they demanded full employment, decent housing and more work opportunities. They set forth their political goals in a document entitled the Ten-Point Program, which called for better housing, jobs and education for African Americans. (Newton, 2013). The Organization was not afraid to punctuate its message with dramatic appearances. For example, to protest a gun bill in 1967, members of the Panthers entered the California Legislature armed and Newton was not present at this demonstration. (Newton, 2013). While on the other hand, the NAACP objective was that black lives do matter. They wanted to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens. They also wanted to seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights. Some early members of this organizations were involved in a Niagara Movement, a civil right group started in 1905 and led by Du Bios, a sociologist and writer. The NAACP serves people at the local level by responding to the demand of citizens for action on issues. The Los Angeles Chapter is one of the branches that the NAACP has. It was formed in 1914 in the home of Drs. John and Vada Somerville. The Focus of this chapter is opposing racial discrimination and second-class treatment of the city’s Black citizens and serving as the principle political leadership in the Black Community.

The Black Panther strength was that they argued and protested that color people should be treated the same. Many Notable events took place. On May 2,1967 approximately 30 armed Black Panthers individuals enter the California legislature to protest attention of outlawing the proper of private citizens to bear arms. There was no violence, however the spectacle is nicely remembered and brought the institution into public moderate.  At that time, weapons were legal in California. (Zalman,2018). The continued killing of unarmed people of color by police makes the Black Panthers complicated history particularly significant. However, the NAACP are fighting laws that do not show favor to the color people. They are fighting legal battles to win social justice for African Americans and of course all Americans. Most of the important battles were fought and won. In 1896, the U.S Supreme court encouraged segregation in Plessy v. Ferguson, which installed the “separate however same” precept. In a study commissioned by the NAACP in the 1930s, Nathan Margold found that beneath segregation, the places provided for blacks were always separate, but never equal to those maintained for whites. This, Margold argued, violated the equality aspect of Plessy’s “separate but equal” principle. Margold proposed a series of lawsuits that would challenge the system. (NAACP, 2019). Lawsuits were flied demanding that the places provided for color people was to be made equal and provide them to the whites.

Therefore, the Black Panthers had become viewed as a organize hate group. Due to events that happens people were starting to see the Black Panthers as a hate group. They had to tell a lie so that it helps fixed the party’s image as a violent, anti-white hate group in the public imagination. The Black Panthers Had Planned a protest, but it comes out that it didn’t go as planned. The Panthers had claimed that once in the capitol building they were misdirected on the floor of chambers by members of the press. They disrupted a session of the legislature which is also known as a felony offense under California law. At the event Bobby Seale had read a statement that stated, “at the very time that racist police agencies throughout the country intensify the terror, brutality, murder and repression of black people.” (Williams, 2016).  After his statement reading, the Black Panthers disarmed by the police but only temporality. They could leave except there were Television cameras on hand at gas stations few blocks away where the police had caught up to the armed caravan that had twenty-four man and six women to arrest them. Sadly, after this event the national news reporters depicted the Black Panthers as a violent anti-white hate group. They had laid out so much false information in the newspapers. As today many people say that the NAACP only emerged when something tragic happens. People feels although that the NAACP should be more involved so that they can prevent these tragic things from occurring. Today the NAACP is going through financial difficulties. Some members that’s apart of the group says that the organization has lacked direction. NAACP leaders operated under strong financial pressure. (Franklin, 2009). They are focused on issues like inequality in jobs, education, health care and the criminal justice system.  (History.com Editors, 2019). The NAACP has a lack of an effective integrated program for young people.

In Conclusion, The Black Panthers and the NAACP were and are both organizations that is focused on the advancement of African American. However, these two organizations had different ways of getting African American equal rights movement primarily in the late 1960s. As the black panthers use the pumping of the black fist quoting the phrase FIGHT THE POWER and the NAACP uses legislation and common laws to bring upon change for the black heritage. As these two movements fight for equal rights for the black people different approaches and measures to meet the one common goal that all color and white people should be treated equally as FIGHT THE POWER and black lives matter. These two movements will not stop until they accomplish their goals.
