In 2009 Procter and Gamble deepened their sustainable development strategy through their application of raw materials, product packaging, plant operations and staff of the operation, effectively saving energy and reducing their environmental footprint.

Procter & Gamble Company announced a long term environmental sustainability vision to accelerate its development for a sustainable commitment. P & G's development strategy as part of a responsible company will achieve a long term vision of environmental sustainability. Efforts include the full use of renewable plant energy, all products and packaging are to use renewable or recyclable materials, consumer and production waste will not throw rubbish into the factory set and designs to maximize both can protect the resources of the consumer products.

P & G has implemented a series of 10 year sustainability goals. As this vision will take decades to achieve, these goals will be used to gradually improve the company's environmental performance. P & G announced firmly to the vision of long term sustainability efforts. The first will be the 10-year sustainability goals by 2020.

P & G's sustainability goals by 2020 include sustainable sources of renewable alternatives to petroleum based materials, cold water wash, reducing packaging, consumer solid waste, renewable energy to power the plant, reduce production waste and reduce trucking. P & G attaches importance to environmental protection in product and packaging, operations and suppliers, employees, external cooperation in environmental education and strives to reduce their carbon footprint through environmental responsibility.

To improve packaging and reduce materials

Product packaging requires a lot of materials. In order to save materials, P & G's is working to share ideas, overcome challenges, and seek better solutions to improve packaging technology. Since 2006 improvements in product packaging has reduced 136,000 tons of packaging material used.

In 2009 Pantene's series of several listed products decreased packaging materials by 10% through the optimal use of materials. Similarly, packaging designers and more efficient repair of Olay products pump type packaging has been redesigned to reduce plastic use by 10%.

Pampers R & D personnel have carefully selected materials without rest for technical innovation, after 20 years of effort there is a reduction in the weight of each piece of diapers by 60% or more.

P & G's overall energy saving for factories

P & G's factory implementation of the Environmental Protection Act has reduced pollution from the start and made good environmental performance. In addition to the protection of capital investment, the factories focus on the systematic management of environmental projects. Ongoing daily management and tracking ensures that all emissions controls are active in the factory.

Procter & Gamble plants electricity is nearly 70% of total energy consumption. P & G's plants are promoting green lighting, cleaner production, design and installation of all equipment in part to energy saving measures, and in their production line building energy management systems to reduce electricity consumption each year by more than 400 million KWH. At the same time P & G factories have also developed a detailed "Lean Energy Initiative," which further reduces the overall energy consumption.

From 1994 to now through management oversight and joint ventures, P & G's factories have significantly reduced their wastewater discharge from 500 tons per day down to the current 200 tons per day or less.

Procter & Gamble plants are continuously reducing their environmental impact for the establishment of a harmonious and green community. Through improved water treatment processes, water consumption and wastewater discharge are substantially reduced and advanced wastewater treatment systems can be repeated to reuse the wastewater.

 Effectiveness in production process recycling

De-ionized water is needed for the production of cosmetics. P & G's expert engineering and technical personnel after careful study of microorganisms optimized a de-ionized water supply system that saves nearly 30 million tons of water a year. Also wastewater is generated in the production process and P & G's plant technical innovation team has designed a device that will heat water for recycling that contributes to annual savings of steam in the tons.

The extension of sustainable development

P & G will work for sustainable development that extends to the products from the factory logistics. Supply sector will work to optimize the storage and transportation center. Greater use of rail transport can reduce carbon dioxide emissions of 2,000 tons. P & G with suppliers work to produce sanitary napkins, disposable diapers out of the test development and utilization of waste.

P & G launched the "Earth Day" activities.

Starting in 2008, Procter & Gamble Earth Day was held in the office area of environmental protection activities to encourage every employee to the concept of sustainable development into their daily work.

Also the establishment of sustainable development within P & G is encouraged to adopt more reasonable working habits to take responsibility for the future.

The concept of sustainable development is deep into the daily life and work of employees. P & G's environment friendly R & D, product innovation, process in the production and operation of energy savings and small staff to reduce use of paper are all sustainability strategies. Sustainable development can be from little things in our daily life such as printing less sheets of paper and using less paper cups to be more environmentally friendly.

P & G encourages every employee to act with the sustainable development so that "every day is Earth Day." P & G employees practice the 4R; the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and Reiterate. Currently, more and more P & G employees have to live and work to implement the 4R. P & G "green recycling box" activities has lead to more than 4800 kilograms of waste paper for recycling in exchange for 69,000 sheets of new paper; power consumption dropped by 10%, saving over 170,000 kWh of electricity, that is the equivalent of 560 homes.

P & G creates forest by planting trees

Procter & Gamble for seven consecutive years since 2002, staff organizations, volunteers and their families have participated in forestation activities. P & G allows employees to fully appreciate forestation, protection of the environment ownership and social responsibility. In seven years the organizations planted more than 50,000 total trees and more than 1,000 volunteers participated in forestation activities.

To share experiences of sustainable development

P & G insist on environmental innovation, it is also compiles and shares many years of experience in environmental protection. P & G together with industry and other experts in the preparation of the diapers, environment and sustainable development reports to help the public understand the sustainable development of diapers.

P & G's aim is to provide quality brand products and services, value and beautify the lives of consumers around the world for the present and future generations.  In the future, P & G will continue to adhere to the sustainable development strategy and strive to accomplish goals. Meanwhile, P & G looks forward to sharing their own efforts and experience to drive more customers and partners to practice sustainable development and strive to produce more meaningful impact.
