Percy Bysshe Shelly wrote ode to the west wind in hopes that the poem would inspire and influence those who read or hear it. Shelly wanted his message of reform and revolution spread as the wind become the trope of spreading the word of change through the poet prophet figure.
O wild west wind throu breath of autum's begin. Thou I from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghost from the echanter fleeing. The poem is written about a windy autum day when the wind is blowing but the only way you know the wind is present is because the leaves that have fallen from the trees are blowing.
The winged seeds, where they lie cold and low, each like corpse within it's grave, until thine azure sister of the wind has blown all the leaves off the tree, the seeds a laying dormant until its time for spring and the new leaves will grow again.
Shook from the tangled of Heaven and ocean. This is the space on earth from which the wind blows through of the dying years to which this closing night. The season is coming to a end and a new season is about to begin. Black rain and fire and hail will burst. This represents that rain has joined the wind to create a storm just as if the leaves and the clouds play a part in being a part of the wind.
Thou who didn't waken from his summer dreams the blue Mediterranean , where he lay lulled by the coil of his cryst alline streams. The wind has died down and now has picked up again, now the wind is making waves in the sea. The water in the Mediterranean has started to move again.
Cleave themselves into chasma, while far below the sea blooms and the oozy woods which wear the saples folioge of the lives under water as the wind blows the sea it causes illusions in the water
If I were a dead leaf thoug mightiest bear, if I were a swift cloud to fly with thee aware to pant beneath the power and share. Shelly has switched sences to talk about putting himself as the dead leaf, water and the cloyd. He wants the wind to move him as if he was a dead leaf or cloud and make the waves of the sea.
The impulse of the strength only less free than thou, uncontrollable! If even I were in my boy hood and could be when the wind blows hard everything moves freely, out of control. As a young boy you do whatever you like, giving no thought on what you are doing. Enjoying everything you do.
As thus with thee in prayer in my sore need. Oh I lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud. I fall upon the thorns of life! I blied Shelly is asking the father in Heaven to raise him higher as he pray for the hurt and pain he has endured.
Drive my dead thoughts over the universe like withered leaves to quicken a new birth! And by the incantation of this verse. Let everyone know of my past but there is a new beginning spread it all over the world. Imbued with the spirit of the age of romanticism, Blake strenuously condemns what he deems the slavish following of religious, social, and aesthetic conventions that stifled individuals freedom and creativity in his day, and defiantly declares his personal independence from them. " I must create my own system or be enslaved by another man."
Blake believed that God resides within each human being ( quite the opposite of deism), and it was his goal to use his imaginative works to free other people and enable them to see the divine spirit within themselves and so to build up a world of beauty, joy, peace and freedom.
Tyger, tyger burning bright in the forest of the night; what immortal hand or eye could frame thy fearful symmetry?
The tiger is patrayed as an unmercifine primal power, being beautiful and terrifying.
Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, and watered heaven with their tears. Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the lamb make thee?
Once the tiger caught hi pray he would not show any mercy. Even if they gave up or cried out. He was proud of himself. Then asked a question, Did he who made lamb which was a sign of goodness. How could something so vitious come from someone that made something like a lamb so good. There ne some mistake on Gods part. These two things can't come from the same creater. Everything comes from God, so he had to have made the tiger too. Why did he choose to make the tiger so aggressive, evil, and dangerous, but cared enough to make the lamb so meek, mild and fearful.
Shelly and Blake were both great Romatism poets. They wrote poems that showed different types of feeling. Shelly shows how the wind could be aggressive through storms and leaves blows in all kinds of directions. Blake shows his aggressiveness through a tiger killing his prey. Then Shelly show compassion when the wind blows over the sea causing the water to move making the underwater plants move calmly . Therefore Blake has the tiger compared himself to a lamb which is calm and meek.
Both writers Knew how to express the different Characteristic strong, bold fierce , gentle. Passionate , and passive. The tiger and the storm were strong, bold, and fierce. The lamb and blowing leaves were gentle, passionate, passive. Blake showed the world could be so innocent but yet so dangerous God has control of everything wheather its good, bad, pretty or ugly. He made the leaves, trees, tigers, lambs and everything else to his liking. Blake and Shelly used nature to inspire their work to express human life feelings from different prospective and values.
