Understanding Mouse Buttons And Using Zoom English Language Essay

As I have stated in my earlier article, in this article we will learn the Zoom toolbar. But before that let me explain three button Mouse and its functionality in AutoCAD 2013.

Understanding Functionality of Three Button Mouse:

Mouse works as digitizer with AutoCAD 2013 and previous versions of AutoCAD (As shown below).

As we click in the workspace or open drawing in AutoCAD 2013, Left Click Button works as Pick command and Right Click Button as Return / Enter button. We can customize Right Click; go to the drop down menu named as Tools, and select Options. A pop up window labeled as Options will appear (As shown below).

Go to the User Preferences Tab. You will see seven subcategories under this tab. Under the Windows Standard Behavior, you will see the following:

Mark yes the check box listed as Double click editing.

Mark yes the check box listed as Shortcut menus in drawing area.

Left click the button labeled as Right-click Customization; you will see the following popup menu.

Here you can set your preferences for the Default, Edit and Command Modes. As far as my experience is concerned I will suggest you to set these preferences as follows.

In Default mode, select radio button Shortcut Menu.

In Edit Mode, select radio button Shortcut Menu.

Command Mode, select radio button ENTER.

Press Apply & Close button.

For quick and speedy work, these settings are sufficient.

Default Mode: This is the mode when we have not selected any object, and no command is active. Cursor in AutoCAD 2013 will look as shown below.

Edit Mode: In this mode we have selected one or more object for editing.

Command Mode: When a command is either selected or in the progress. The cursor will look as shown below.

Using Zoom Toolbar:

Now moves to the Zoom toolbar. For better understanding we will open a drawing that is given under the Sample folder with every AutoCAD 2013 installation.

(Note: X stands for the root folder)

Using Zoom Window Command:

After you will open this drawing you will see that the object contained in the drawing are not visible to you. Now we will select the Zoom Window command from the Zoom toolbar. And drag a window on the objects created in the lower left corner of the screen (As shown below). For command line, write Z and press enter for Zoom, press W for Window.

As a result area selected from the window will be magnified. And objects will become clearer.

Command: z

Specify first corner: Specify opposite corner:

Using Zoom Previous Command:

Now if we want to go previous level of magnification. We will use Zoom Previous command. For command line, write Z and press enter for Zoom, press P for Previous.

Using Zoom Extents Command:

In case if we want to magnify total drawing, we will use Zoom Extents command. For command line, write Z and press enter for Zoom, press E for Extents.

Using Zoom Scale, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Copy & Mirror Commands in AutoCAD 2013

In this article we will focus remaining Zoom toolbar commands. And after that we will learn more command from Modify toolbars.

Using Zoom Scale Command:

Sometime it is required to see the drawing up to some scale factor. For this purpose we will use Zoom Scale command or write Z press Enter from the keyboard and for Scale sub-option write S and press Enter. As we select the command it will prompt us to enter the scale factor.

Command: Z

ZOOM

Specify corner of window, -------------------------, or

[All/------------------------/Scale/--------------------- time>: s

Enter a scale factor (nX or nXP): 2

As a result our drawing will be magnified up to the scale factor of 2. We can input Scale factor 0.5 to magnify out.

Note: Scale factor should be positive and non zeroes.

Using Zoom In Command:

To use Zoom In command, just rotate the Wheel from the mouse in upward direction. If you don’t have a mouse with Wheel, just click on the Zoom In command icon.

Command: '_zoom

Specify corner of window, -------------------------------, or

[All/---------------------------------------------------------- time>: 2x

Each click will magnify the object by 2x times.

Using Zoom Out Command:

To use Zoom Out command, just rotate the Wheel from the mouse in upward direction. If you don’t have a mouse with Wheel, just click on the Zoom In command icon.

Command: '_zoom

Specify corner of window, -------------------------------, or

[All/---------------------------------------------------------- time>: .5x

Each click will magnify the object by .5x times.

Above command from the Zoom toolbar are sufficient for or beginner. Now we will look some important command from the Modify toolbar.

Using Copy Command from Modify Toolbar:

Below is a drawing with a rectangle and a circle in it. We want to create same copy of the circle and place it to the right of the original circle.

We will go to the Modify toolbar and select the Copy command or write CP in command line. Steps of the command (from left to right) are as shown below.

Command: _copy

Select objects: 1 found

Select objects:

Current settings: Copy mode = Multiple

Specify base point -----------------------------------end>:

Specify second point --------------------------------end>:

Specify second point ------------------------------<Exit>:

The final result will as shown below.

Try this by yourself:

For the purpose of exercise, try to draw following drawing. Choose units as you desire.

Hint: Copy three circles in a row (i.e. Horizontally) and after that copy these three circles by selecting all of them and moving them vertically (i.e. Vertically).

Using Mirror Command from Modify Toolbar:

Mirror command given in the Modify toolbar helps us to mirror original drawing. We have the drawing (as shown below) and we want to complete the remaining part. Mirror command will be used for this purpose.

After choosing the Mirror command, select the objects as shown below.

Command: mi

MIRROR

Select objects: -----------------------------: 0 found

Select objects: ----------------------------: 6 found

Now select the Mirror line as shown below.

After selecting the mirror line, command will now prompt whether to erase the source or not. If you want to erase the source then write Y else press Enter. And the final result will be as shown below.

Using Rectangular Array, Path Array in AutoCAD 2013

In my earlier articles, you have learned Erase, Copy, Mirror, Offset, Move, Fillet and Chamfer commands from Modify toolbar. In this article you will learn the Array command. This command has three types. First one is Rectangular Array, second on is Path Array and the third one is Polar Array.

Using Rectangular Array Command:

Recall the drawing which we have created using the Copy command in the last article (As shown below).

In this article we will create that drawing using Rectangular Array command. Select the Array command by clicking on it or write AR in command line. We have the drawing shown as below.

Command: _arrayrect

Select objects: 1 found

Select objects: Type = Rectangular Associative = Yes

Now select Columns by writing COU on the command line.

Select grip to edit array or [AS----------------/COLumns/--------------]<eXit>: cou

Specify number of columns here by writing 3 and provide spacing as 5.

Enter the number of columns or [Expression] <4>: 3

Specify the distance between columns or [Total/Expression] <7.5>: 5

Specify number of rows here by writing 2 and provide spacing as 5.

Select grip to edit array or [AS----------------------------/Rows/--------]<eXit>: r

Enter the number of rows or [Expression] <3>: 2

Specify the distance between rows or [Total/Expression] <7.5>: 5 [ASsociative/--------------]<eXit>:

The final result will be as shown below.

Using Path Array Command:

Now consider the following scenario as shown below.

We want this circle to be placed along this path. In this case we will use Path Array command from Modify toolbar. We will select this command either by clicking on it or by writing AR on the command line. And select the object. After that we will write PA for Path.

Command: ar

ARRAY

Select objects: 1 found

Select objects:

Enter array type [Rectangular/PAth/POlar] <Rectangular>: pa

Type = Path Associative = Yes

Now we will select the path to follow.

Select path curve:

To select the Item, write I in command line and give distance between them.

Select grip to edit array or [-------------------------/Items/-------------------]<eXit>: i

Specify the distance between -----------------] <25.8>: 5

Available maximum items along the path

Maximum items = 22

It will now give you the maximum number of items that can be created along selected path and 5 units apart from each other. Specify your desired number of items, in our case it is 22.

Specify number of items or [Fill entire path/Expression] <22>: 22

Select grip to edit array or [AS---------------------------------/eXit]<eXit>:

Final drawing after Path Array will be like this.

We can have other options stated in this command. In these articles my purpose is to get familiarized you people with the command basics. As you people progress in AutoCAD 2013, you will learn different variations of a particular command according to your need.
