Your diet in simple terms what you eat and how you eat. There are two main controlled aspects to your diet: what foods you and your common lifestyle. To help lose weight or maintain a healthy bmi weight, you have to keep an eye on both factors. If you consume all the correct foods but they are in extremely large amounts, your body will indigested loads of calories and one way or another you will gain weight. If you eat the correct quantity of calories but you only achieve them from only a certain food group, you will lose vital nutrients which may promote health problems in the near future In actual fact it all comes down to a balance the correct life style and the correct quantity of food in this case study I will be concluding whether or not diets are effective or is it just a moral myth.

The main aspect of a diet is to be careful and intake only a certain amount of calories, a calorie is basically how much energy is produced by the product. In fact it can be measured as joules in one calorie there is 4.2 joules of energy, which is not ample to keep the body running on average in a day we at least take in is 2500 calories that is a massive 1050 joules (2500X4.2).This amount just shows how much energy we need to keep going in a day.

Food types

Food, the main types of food we should be eating is with these kinds of advantages such as carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, fibre, protein. What is a carbohydrate a carbohydrate is made from three elements which are carbon hydrogen and oxygen (with sugar). Carbohydrates break down into glucose molecules. When our bodies use it, carbohydrates become our own personal fuel for your muscles and our brain just like how a car runs on petrol. If your body does not have any current use for the glucose, it gets transformed into glycogen and is kept in the muscles and in one of the main organs of the body - the liver which is just like an empty energy tank. Your body can store about a maximum amount of 12 hours of supplied glycogen. If your body has an excess amount of glucose it can be used as energy or turned into glycogen for reserve, the extra amounts are converted to fat.

Vitamins and minerals are substances that are found in foods we consume. Your body needs them to work properly, so you grow and develop just like you should. When it comes to vitamins, each one has a special role to play for the human body. For example:

.Vitamin D in milk helps your bones to grow and sustains them.

.Vitamin A in carrots helps advance your eyesight in the dark.

.Vitamin C in oranges helps your body to heal if you receive a small graze or cut.

They are mainly molecules made of amino acids .Proteins help us to build structures within our bodies such as main organs muscles cells and even tissues, the heart, lungs and digestive organs. So the miracle worker fibre is mostly common within cereals and bread it can help the digestive system to digest and expose of food much more faster than the standard way new studies bringing in light show that fibre does this by lubricating the walls of the small and large intestine therefore moving the waste product to its specialized exit faster.

Proteins are basically just like carbohydrates, of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, but with the differential factor of nitrogen. They may contain sulphur and prosperous also those extras which are required for digestion and hormonal intakes and outtakes. So what have we learnt? What we should be taking in new studies have created a pyramid tree this tells us what kinds of food we should be eating on a daily amount and what we should not take liberties in eating are all shown below. The digestive system

The mouth is the base to the human digestive system. Teeth mechanically grind at the food slowly turning it into smaller pieces, while the salivary gland excretes saliva; the saliva contains enzymes which break down the hard living fat chemical. Saliva makes food easier to swallow by lubricating the food making a quick and sharp journey down you oesophagus.Drawing of the digestive system with sections labeled: esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, duodenum, pancreas, small intestine, ileum, appendix, cecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, rectum, and anus.

After the food or drink enters the body from the back of the throat, the food/drink travels down the oesophagus, being moved down by muscles contracting nearby the throat passage.

After the food moves through the oesophagus, drink/food arrives at its destination - the stomach, where it is mainly broken down and converted into smaller pieces (easier for transporting). Because all the nutrients in our food/drink are meant to be taken in and used by cells which need food to survive, they must be broken into very tiny pieces for delivery to the cells which is carried out by via the capillaries. The main digestion process in the stomach is due to gastric juices.

After the stomach, the smaller pieces of the food move into the small intestine, this is the part of the digestive system where almost all of the nutrients in the food separations take place. As the food goes down the small intestine, it is interchanged with a chemical called bile, which is produced by the liver. This acid crushes down all the nutrients amongst the food to the fact of which it can be sucked in by the blood and moved through the blood stream.

The last and final parts of the digestive system consist of large intestine, colon, the anus, and also urinary tract; this is where our body separates the liquids from the solids and sends them to their very own specified exit. As a fact, the human digestive system is not very good as there can and will be many more nutrients left over in the waste. This information was achieved from a very high status well known professor therefore it is pen to paper accurate Source 13

The circulatory system

This system provides the body's cells with all that they need to survive oxygen and nutrients.

The core of the circulatory system is of course, the heart, the most commanding pump organ prototyped to beat billions of times during a lifetime. our heart pumps blood throughout the arteries and veins. Arteries carry the oxygenated blood away from the heart, giving it to tissues, then making it retreat the empty red bloods cells back to the heart via the veins for reoxygenation where the blood is provided with oxygen once again. What is Metabolism?

This is the amount of energy your body burns to keep yourself going. Whether you having food, drinking, sleeping, doing anything really same process just different output levels of energy needed, just take note your body is always using calories to help yourself through the day.

Metabolism is only different thanks to your body build. By body build, I mean the amount muscle you have weighed against the bundle of fat. Muscles use many more calories to keep themselves to balance out with fat. The People who are more of a muscular build than fatty build have been proven to have a much higher metabolism rates than other people that have less muscular build. As an example, there are two people who are both same height also the same weight. One always does physical exercises on a day to day basis with exercise equipment, and has a low amount of body fat. The other's who don't do enough exercise and have a much higher concentration of body fat. The first person which exercises will indefinitely have a higher metabolism rate compared to the second person. What this means in simple terms is that person #1's body will use up much more calories to sustain themselves compared to person #2.This article was written by Linda Moore she is a very clever scientist and she has been working with loads of different colleagues to come up with this scientific theory Source 4

Effect of exercise on the body

Any kind of exercise helps to maintain the body to use oxygen and increases the rate of the cardiovascular system. The heart becomes stronger and faster, the lung function is also becomes more efficient, your whole body becomes more toned and muscles which use oxygen and energy more efficiently. As a result of these great results along the main cycle, calories are burned and hormonal extracts such as adrenaline it is excreted from the adrenal glands which are planted on top of your kidneys .It dominates the usual control of sugar added to blood by allowing the secretion of the hormonal insulin. This promotes the breakdown of glycogen stores to glucose molecules. This means levels of glucose inside the blood are above average level than normal and provide the body with tons of energy that can be used. source 12

Recent studies show that diets do actually work because in one way or another, the body is taking in fewer calories. The fewer calories we take in, the better for us. But we still need an average amount of calories in a day to keep us fit and healthy. This is approximately 2500 calories for men .Many researchers believe that diet comes down to one thing which is what food you eat and how much. This brings me to my next point a diet helps you to achieve a balanced diet this is achieved from following a diet which includes mostly eating the magnificent 5 a day which basically includes vegetables, fruits addition which are not included in the five a day: meat and calcium with an optional serving of sweets and sugars. Diet can be controlled by three variable factors how you balance what you eat, how much you eat and how much you exercise. Source 6

Exercise helps us to burn of calories. There are many facilities which provide this type of way to help us lose calories, this takes a lot of time and also must be done in synchronization with the eating section of the diet. As this is where the term balanced diet was gained from. There are many types of diets out there to suite your person such as the traditional balanced diet, The Grapefruit Diet, The Hollywood Miracle Diet, The Rice Diet and The Scarsdale Diet although the horrid truth is that they have not ever been scientifically proven by anyone so for all we know it could be a common myth one reason for this is media prohibiting all those feeds into people's heads those statistics which show how many people die in a year from being obese and it could all be avoided by one simple thing and that is dieting? Source 15

Argument for

After doing some research on diets I came across an article written by WLR Dietitian, Juliette Kellow she describes her review of the well known diet the Atkins diet. This diet is mainly consists of just eating foods with high proteins and then rising and lowering that common variable factor along a continuous amount of weeks. She found in this study that "the diet does help you to lose calories more easily although she goes on to say that the diet leaves you craving for more food" Juliette Kellow. This shows that all you do in a diet is starving yourself from those foods that you enjoy the most. I believe this source is very much reliable due to the fact she is a qualified dietician although taking into consideration the fact that she has written many magazine articles worries me as I believe that sometimes they can be very magazine writers can be biased. Source 7

While doing some more research into the topic I found an article written by Alok Jha after reading through his article where he believes that "diets do work but not in the long term". He said "that the majority of people would lose massive amounts of weight in a couple of months but in around about five years they would put that same amount of weight back upon their bodies" Alok Jha. This shows that fair enough people can lose as much weight as they want but sooner or later they are going to gain back that weight one way or another. Alok Jha is one of the main people working in the scientific section this worries me because i know that writers for newspaper lie for more conflict thanks to the media constantly trying to make stories more juicer Source 9

Arguments against

Although diets do help us to lose calories don't we do this process in an everyday life? I came across a study written by Traci Mann, UCLA associate professor of psychology she believes in the long term there is no way to sustain the change she goes on to say "that we as humans can only successfully loose a variable from 5-10 percent of our weight" Traci Mann. Her and her colleagues have also tested numerous diets none of which were successful in the long term. Traci believes that the only real way that we can really control our weight is eating in moderation and not starving our bodies and a healthy life style. I believe that this source is very accurate as Tracci Mann is a well known professor and has conducted many experiments throughout her working life Source 8

Most people today would surely believe that diets do work as we sometimes see great results I have come across an article theory from the sun paper. Where researchers from the University of California agree on the basis that 33% of people do manage to get rid of allot of weight within the first few months. On the other hand I am concerned about the depth of the article as it doesn't show in any way how the achieved this data. I am sure that you will agree with me that without any common scientific data to support this theory it is very unbelievable and is not very trust worthy by its self standing on one leg. The article goes on to say that it works by eating foods which contain high protein and mainly avoid foods with many sugars and fatty foods- chips controversially we do need some source of fatty foods. Incredibly some people suggest that diet is only controlled by one factor but now we know this is just a misconception. Source 11

After taking into consideration all of the information above I now have to decide whether or not diets are really effective or is it a moral myth. Well I have learnt that diets in actual facts do work but are they really consistent. The main problem with dieting which many of these researches have encountered is within a long term diets are not effective, as you can see above the common things with nearly all of the articles is that they all show within in a variable time we would put the same amount of weight back on to our bodies and this is one of the main problems and no matter what the reality remains as this. So in conclusion I claim that diets do not work I trust you are convinced and believe me that they are not affective in the long term situation so the answer to this quest Are Diets really affective? The answer is no.
