Having an interest, which makes a great contribution to youngsters to treat reading as a hobby, is the intangible propellant for youngsters to read. Actually, having an interest is a mental activity that is personally specific views about favourites that can improve to be a hobby and appeal people to do the things they like for a long time. Firstly, youngsters are easily attracted by the content of the book, which most of them explaining about the real life of youngsters as love, crime, horror, fun, news and science. Secondly, along with development of interest, it gradually arouses the readers' curiosity in the course of time, which supplies them an intangible propellant for continuous reading. Peter Jay (2005) claimed, "The more you put into a book, the more you get out of it. You can read a very boring book, but if you read between the lines you can find surprising things that interest you." In other words, sometimes a book may be boring to read, but reader still can get interesting thoughts which are hidden in the context. Thus, this reason indirectly supports youngster to develop reading continuously. Thirdly, as they spend more time on reading which eventually become a hobby in their life. As 14% of the youngsters read averagely more than three hours every day, 67% of them considered having an interest as one of the causes of reading as a hobby. First of all youngsters wish to read the books and obtain knowledge that they do not have, which increase and derive vocabulary such as magazine, novel, newspaper, comic and art. Second, with the accumulation of vocabulary, youngsters consume more time and energy to read because they desire to acquire new knowledge. Golgi (1902) claimed "I'm bashing the book, just as hungry as the bread-basing." In other words, it is an imperative desire for knowledge, which is a fanatical love of reading and necessary demand. Therefore, gain knowledge is the reason why youngsters insist on reading in their life. Third, in order to attain sufficient new knowledge and achieve to put the new knowledge into mind gradually, youngsters need reading day-to-day. As 59% of males and 13% of female participants spends more than two hours on reading a day. After accumulating, it becomes a hobby in their life and need to review knowledge every day. Finally, youngsters continue to acquire knowledge from book, which elevate them to a new level of reading because of the increasing vocabulary, the improvement of reading skills and understanding. Knowledge occupies 19% ratio among male and occupies 26% ratio among female, which consider that is the reason why acquiring knowledge as one of the causes that reading as a hobby. In addition, acquire knowledge may encourage youngsters to read more books and gradually form an integral part of their daily life. It indicates that attain knowledge is the essential element as a hobby, which plays an important role in the perspective of reading. However, even though acquiring knowledge is the significant factor, meanwhile, entertainment really can be an attractive and essential element.
Nowadays, reading is not merely a way of getting knowledge but a kind of entertainments which is a reason why youngsters deem reading as a constructive hobby because of two aspects. Entertainment, one kind of human natural instincts, could cost spare time and ease stress by the enjoyable action. On the one hand most of youngsters used to spend their free time in reading because of the joyful information in the books. According to a participant (2010), "I don't like reading very much. I just read story or something when I feel boring.'' Namely, he does not like reading but he still chooses to read the stories when he feels boring because it has funny information to cheer him. It means that he enjoys the books' funny information and it is a way of entertainments to spend his time. On the other hand, entertainment may help youngsters a lot because they always bear various stresses from school, family and society. As 10% male youngsters and 19% female youngsters consider reading as their hobby because of entertainment, meanwhile, 84% of them just like to read joyful book such as comic, story, novel and fiction. Although entertainment is not the highest percentage factor in the youngsters to regard reading as a hobby, it is a really commendable way to ease stress due to youngsters may focus on the exciting information and forget their anxiety. In brief, it is true that entertainment is one of the important causes that have an effect on considering reading as a hobby but it still has another cause, experience.
Comparing with interest, knowledge and entertainment, experiences are the special reason why youngsters deem reading as a constructive hobby because females are more empathic than males and they are eager to get consolation from books. As Simon Baron-Cohen (2005) claimed "a new theory claims that the female brain is predominantly hard-wired for empathy, and that the male brain is predominantly hard-wired for understanding and building systems." In other words females are more emotional than males. Thus, they always merge their own feelings into assumption and desire to find out consolation from the similar experiences in books. As 44% of the female youngsters choose novel as their favourite reading material and 34% of them consider novel may fulfil their mental vacancy. It indicates those females are enjoying the plots and may get the sympathy from it because they can find the similar experience to comfort themselves when their spirits sink. Therefore, experiences as a constrictive hobby, it can give females the consolation. Experience is the most special reason between male and female; however, the habit also is another reason that can affect youngsters to treat reading as a constructive hobby.
Readers may gain experience from reading that expands their vision of life and gives them consolation. However, youngsters deem reading as a constructive hobby because it leads them to form the reading habit, which costs a long period of time to form and has an improvement on personality. On the one hand youngsters whose hobby is reading may not easy to change into habit because it needs regularly repeating and a long period of time. As 7% of participants had changed reading from hobby to habit because they read every day and consider reading is a part of their daily life. It indicates that a few youngsters who persist in reading every day had eventually formed the habit of reading and read in spare time without think about it. According to Phillippa Lally, Cornelia H. M. van Jaarsveld, Henry W. W. Potts and Jane Wardle (2009), "The time it took participants to reach 95% of their asymptote of automaticity ranged from 18 to 254 days; indicating considerable variation in how long it takes people to reach their limit of automaticity and highlighting that it can take a very long time." In other words, it may take a long time for people to form a habit. On the other hand, as youngsters get in the habit of reading, they may read more books such as the arts, religion, non-fiction, which can improve their personality. Angela Phillip (1990) claimed, "It is important to encourage the reading habit so that people grow mentally and fulfil their potential at every level from village to university." That is people may benefit from reading habit that strengthens their personality. Thus, youngsters may improve their personality in reading habit. All in all, reading as a constructive hobby leads to a good result that forming the habit of reading.
Reading influences and helps an individual in many ways which are quite good to cultivate kinds of interests, efficient method to accumulate knowledge, and a beneficial entertainment for decompressing and buying time.
