A business presentation involves presentation of facts, information or ideas by a speaker to an audience. In order to ensure effective presentation, the following points need to be considered:

Set the theme. Every presentation desires a theme, but it is not necessary that it has to be given at the starting of the presentation.

When Steve Jobs had to provide a presentation on his 2007 Macworld keynote, he started by saying that "There are four things that I would like to talk about today". He followed his outline by opening and closing each of the four sections and making understandable transitions in between. For example, after enlightening several new iPhone features, he said, "The iPhone is not standing still. We keep making it better and better and well again. That was the second thing I wanted to talk about today.

The audience need to know exactly what they can plan to learn about in the ongoing presentation. This should also include the before highlighted elements of the business plan.

Create Visual slides

While many speakers pack their slides with data, text, and charts, Steve Jobs does the opposite. There is very little manuscript on a Steve Jobs slide. When he discussed a detailed product like the iPhone, the audience saw a slide with a picture of the product. When text was introduced, it was often revealed as little sentences.

The visibility of the visual aids and audibility of the oral aids to the audience are taken care of.

Steve Jobs was about to show some photographs from a live Web site, and the screen went black while Jobs waited for the image to appear. It never did. Jobs smiled and said, "Well, I guess Flickr isn't serving up the photos today." He then recapped the new features he had just introduced. That's it. It was no big deal. Don't sweat minor mishaps. Have fun. Few will remember a glitch unless one calls attention to it.

Sell the benefit

While most presenters promote product features, Steve Jobs sells benefits. When introducing iTunes movie rentals, he said, "We think there is a better way to deliver movie content to our customers." He explained the benefit by saying, "We've never offered a rental model in music because people want to own their music. You listen to your favorite song thousands of times in your life. But most of us watch movies once, maybe a few times. And renting is a great way to do it. It's less expensive, doesn't take up space on our hard drive…"

Clearly state the benefit of every service, feature, or product.


Conclude with an attention-grabbing statement. This is a statement that reflects upon the importance of establishing one's business while simultaneously forecasting how the business world and your investors will benefit from the establishment and success of your business. For example one can say, "as you can see my business fills a major void in the current market, and by filling this void, it will bring more jobs to our area in addition to a profit to all investors lucky enough to get in on the ground floor.

This will help the audience to evaluate better about the presentations and what opportunities lie for them in there.

Rehearse and Rehearse!

Steve Jobs cannot pull off an intricate presentation with video clips, demonstrations, and outside speakers without hours of rehearsal. When Jobs was showing examples of the films that are available on the new iTunes movie rental service, one poster of a particular film appeared at the exact moment he began to talk about it. Gestures and facial expressions should always accompany speech: They may or not may have independent meaning. Gestures can be used to express thought, even without using words at the same time. Physical appearance should be suitable for the occasion: Physical appearance includes not only your dress, but also what you carry with you, and how you walk. Your dress should be formal. It should not be a source of disturbance to you or distraction to your listeners.

Confidence is necessary for a good personality: If you have confidence in yourself, you will carry yourself well. Your confidence can be easily seen in your facial expressions too. Don't be nervous. Being normal will help overcome the barrier of nervousness. Practicing your speech will create confidence.

When a presentation is made, the main aim is to see that listeners accept the facts or information that is provided to them.

Manner of Speaking

In oral presentation, the speaker should take care of the following point:

Words: The speaker should use positive words.

Expression: The speaker should lay stress on those words that effectively highlight the key expression of the theme. The choice of expression shows much authentic, sincere and enthusiastic the speaker is about his or her subject matter of the speech.

Pace of the voice: The speaker should so arrange that matter of the speech that during delivery a fast passage should be followed by a slow passage. However, the text itself should determine the appropriate pace.

Pitch of the voice: The speaker can make his or her speech or an oral presentation effective by starting deep down the notes. According to the nature of the text he or she should modulate his or her voice between high and low. The speech becomes more meaningful when the speaker makes use of tonal variations.

Power of the voice: The speaker should vary the power of his or her voice. For thought provoking passages he or she should drop the power he or should drop the power as it has a surprisingly greater influence on the listeners than raising power.

Pausing: An efficient speaker does not rush through the speech while making an oral presentation. He or she makes pauses to give the audience adequate time to collect and digest the contents of the speech. A pause yields a refreshing help to the audience.

Hamming: An efficient speaker makes use of a variety of expressions in speaking.
