My Favorite Holiday: December 25 is more then just another day for most of the world. This is one day that doubles as a religious holiday and federal holiday. Customary referred to as Christmas, the day that Christians recognize the birth of their Lord and savor Jesus Christ, December 25 is also used by other religions to celebrate their beliefs and to practices yearly rituals. “The first time the birth of Jesus Christ was attributed to the date December 25 was in the 4th century, according to early Roman history” (CNN). This day is also acknowledged by the United States federal government; whereas it is normal for federal offices and major companies to close for observation. During this joyous season families tend to express their love for each other and communities tend to bond together. Giving and receiving gifts, socializing with family, and the major religious significances are the main three reasons I enjoy this holiday.

No matter how big or small giving and receiving gifts is my favorite part of Christmas. “The tradition of gifts seems to have started with the gifts that the wise men (the Magi) brought to Jesus. As recounted in the Bible's book of Matthew, ‘On coming to the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh'” (Brain). I ordinary start shopping for Christmas' gifts, Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Sunday's sale advertisements, in the local newspaper, are where in I usually begin with my search for the prefect gift. I try to purchase gifts for everyone in my family, because I get pleasure from the priceless reactions and smiles I receive when the gifts are reveled. My family does not just purchase gifts we also have our own vision of secret Santa, our vision consist of the traditional drawing of names, out of a bright red Santa's hat, but the twist comes when you are required to hand-craft the gift. I work passionately on my personalized gift all month long because with this gift I am able to display my creativity. On Christmas Eve, before going to bed, my family sits around the warmth of the fireplace while sipping egg nog, the traditional holiday's beverage, where we are only allowed to open our personalized gift. I like this gift ceremony because it always means more gifts are about to come.

Laughter and conversation is all that can be heard in my Grandmother's house where my family does most of it congregating. During Christmas' afternoon my Grandmother's children arrives at her house along with their own children. This is the second part of Christmas for my family where we exchange remaining gifts and embark on a rather larger and delicious Christmas' dinner. We spend the majority of our time talking, playing different types of games, and looking at photo albums. We have discussions about family history and family member that have past away. Family always has been the most important thing in my life and I cherish this part of the Christmas' experience.

I have a strong religious background and try to live my life according to the preaching of the Church as a Christian's model. “Unlike any other baby, the one born that night in Bethlehem was unique in all of history. He was not created by a human father and mother. He had a heavenly pre-existence (John 1:1-3, 14). He is God, the Son—Creator of the universe (Philippians 2:5-11).” (Christmas). Since December 25 holds vast importance in the Christian faith I strive to keep it holy. Throughout the day I thank God for creating a son as a gift to humans, while celebrating Jesus' birthday. I read the bible and watch movies on the birth of Christ the savor and his purposeful life. My church also puts on a play of the first days of Christ that my family and I attend every year. I try not to let the other activities of the day distract me from the reason for the season which is the most wonderful gift I have ever been given.

December 25 plays a large part in my life and who I am today. I enjoy my family's traditions and bliss spirits during the Christmas' season. I get excited every year when the weather turns cold because that means Christmas is coming. Love and compassion for your fellow man and bring joy to the world is what Christmas is all about. I enjoy thinking about the pleasant thing and cheerful time that I will endure on Christmas, because it smooths my soul.
