Chemical engineers not only have to have very good understanding of chemistry and physics but also a good understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering. They mostly need to be specialised in one of the following oxidisation, pollution control and the production of plastics.

In some cases these products are sold to other industries that use them to make other products ranging from fine textiles to automobile tires. Chemicals are used in the processing and treatment of many of the foods we eat, much of the water we drink, and many of the clothes we wear. Corrosion Management

* Reviews the cathodic protection system they currently have in place to highlight problems and suggest what improvements they could make to ensure the best protection they can offer to the equipment in the refinery.

* Reviews the inspection and corrosion observations and analyses the same after in a larger group of information to see if there is any faults from the figures. Identifies causes of corrosion and failure and makes necessary recommendations.

* -Reviews the existing corrosion monitoring tools and advises upgrading as required to ensure that they re system is working correctly.

* -Reviews the corrosion control policies / procedures and upgrades the same as required to ensure effective corrosion control.

* -Reviews the metallurgy for the modification and major projects. Updates procedures and specifications related to corrosion management & inspection activities and recommends repairs/operating parameters to extend the life of equipment and piping.

* -Carries out on-site metallographic

* Monitor microstructures; evaluates microstructure condition and issues reports.

* -Carries out thorough and detailed review of all Refinery units to define the corrosion loops and carries out detailed study to meet the requirements of Risk- Based Inspections.

Specific capabilities include:

* Structural integrity assessment.

* Evaluation of the significance of weld flaws.

* Failure mechanism determination.

* Risk based inspection.

* Corrosion management, including sour service.

* Life extension of ageing structures.

* Residual stress measurement and reduction of distortion.

* Numerical modelling of structures, joints, welding processes and NDT technologies.

* Provision of expert advice on weldability, avoiding fabrication cracking, materials selection and fabrication approaches.

* Assessment of high and low temperature performance.

* Specialist technical workshops.

Extensive mechanical, fatigue, fracture, sulphide stress cracking, corrosion, and stress corrosion testing facilities, with the ability to develop bespoke tests to address customer-specific problems.

Requirements for the post

* This is a position for a well qualified metallurgist, materials scientist or corrosion engineer with a clear

required interest in the areas above. It would be advantageous if he/she had some prior experience of similar work in the offshore

oil & gas industry. Some training will be provided, both on the job and externally.

How IT is use the organisation or business

IT will be used in the organisation as they will have to log the use of all of their chemicals and how they used it and also they may use a specific program to try and predict what will happen if they mix certain chemicals.

IT is used in AGMA as they have a central hub where everyone can access data that they need this main hub also controls the tracking of products, there email system and the quality control system. They also use specific software to record the results from the test they have to do when testing their products these will all be logged by some recording system.

The constraints within which the organisation or business operate

The constraints in which the organisation will be that they will have to choose who they are selling their products to and why they are selling them in case they will be used in a bad way.

They will also have to adhere to health and safety about the chemicals they use whether they are safe to use and what machinery they can legally operate

AGMA also have to follow strict rules when operating as they have to be compliant to the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) when using material data sheets and handling their products

They also have to have risk assessments but it s mostly for the actual plant work

Agma will also have to have special product safety measures for the chemicals they use as they may need the drivers that deliver for them to have a Hazchem licence to transport specific chemicals for the company. They will also have to include a warning to the people buying the product to say what safety risks are when using the products

They help the local economy by providing about 50 or more jobs to the local community and also it gives the self employed couriers a very reliable source of income as they have contracts with them like UPS and parcel force
