Automation system of intelligent fire alarm system is introduced. This paper presents the network fire detection system using controller area network CAN as a medium to allow microcontrollers and other devices to communicate each other. Based on the CAN protocol and its topology, the CAN have high performance and high reliable advanced serial communication which supports by real-time control. Fire detector is generally implemented as one of the three types of sensor which are smoke sensor, gas sensor and temperature sensor. In this paper, temperature sensor is use to sense the present of fire. An automatic fire detector is temperature sensing device designed to sense the changes of temperature measure, give the first signs on fire to sound an alarm and to turn on sprinkler system. In addition, the CAN has more advantages such as low cost and ease implementation compared to the Ethernet . This paper represent briefly on CAN operating system and protocol. Based on the characteristics of CAN, it shows clearly that why the CAN is chosen. The purpose designed is to enhance the convenience and safety.
Nowadays, there are many cases among the residents of neither house nor building that caught in fire that can cause to destroy the building or the valuables inside the building. As an engineer, feels very responsible to come out with ideas to overcome the problem. As public knows, when the is a fire firefighters will solve the problem. But, there are the lacks of time especially in case that the house is situated too far. Not only that, they have to face traffic jam or accidents due to rushing. In order to overcome the problem, home smart automation fire detector was introduced. Due to this, sometimes when there is fire there are no people inside the house or even the house is situated very far from others. Fire detector is one of the devices that can detect fire inside your house using the sensor inside. Sensors used know as heat sensors that detect the changes of temperature or even smoke that presence in the house. If the temperature drastically changed or out of range for example, the sensor will detect and then the water will split out. But, for the safety from water to split out when there is changes temperature all the time the design will delay for a few seconds. Furthermore, the designs use controller area network (CAN) provides an efficient, reliable and economical link between fire detector sensor and fire control ctuator. The advantage using CAN is low cost, ease implementations and less delay. Moreover, the urgency of message to be exchanged over the network can differ greatly.
The objectives of this research are:
To study the Controller Area Network (CAN) and its topology.
To develop dedicated on fire detector to sense the present of fire by changes temperature using Controller Area Network (CAN)
To analyze the connection as well as performance of the Controller Area Network (CAN) system using proteus and c-programming.
The scopes of the project are:
Use PIC microcontroller to develop fire detection system and CAN.
Use temperature sensor to capture fire occurs.
Use to develop hardware design in proteus and C-Programming.
Controller Area Network (CAN) is a multi master serial bus that can transmits all the CAN nodes. CAN protocol is the best design to perform to be implemented in real time system and allows moving data with the fast speed compared to the traditional network such as USB or Ethernet. In addition, fire detector collects the parameters such as temperature, smoke, fire, gas and etc. Fire detector is a detector to detect the presence of fire using temperature sensor. In the network and automation technology of automatic fire alarm system, fire detectors can be only in particular parameters such as temperature, smoke, fire, gas and etc. For multipoint control unit (MCU) processing, with A/D converter, making smoke, temperature and carbon monoxide gas sensor (CO) voltage signals by amplifying and regulating the converter to digital signals . Fire detectors directly connected to the controller for fire detection systems. From analog transmission method which uses 4-20mA fire detector system detect a fire as exceeds a predefined threshold. Hence, the system has weakness to noise including short circuits and lack of awareness of actual location of fire. Several fire detectors that guard the same area are connected to a signal single line. When the fire occurs, the receiver perceives a fire based on the fact that current increases corresponding to the analog connection line . Fire detection systems by using smoke sensors are not very reliable many fire alarms are unnecessary. Usually, it is depends on sensor sensitivity such as is low sensitivity usually implies high reliability means fewer false alarms, whereas high sensitivity implies early detection . The paper discuss on lack automatic fire department be late to arrive or unable to attack the source of an equipment based fire due to excessive smoke or other such reason. The fire detection systems evaluated consists of ionization and photoelectric spot type detector, infrared detector and xenon tube air sampling detector. From the detection point of view, sprinkler head location was presumed to offer the maximum possible advantage in order to response the time if aligned with wiring aisle formed between the backs of opposing frames. However, sprinkler discharge rate based on required delivered density of 0.25 gallons per minutes per square per foot, which for the head spacing selected translated to 25 gallons per minute per head .
Controller Area Network (CAN) is a multi master serial bus system used in broadcast to transmit all the CAN nodes. It is use in many other real-time applications to evaluate the feasibility of using automation protocol system. The CAN protocol offers a good performance ration, low cost, east implementation compared to the BACNet such as Ethernet. Although, Ethernet is a well-assessed fast technology and communication controllers are already available at relatively low prices, it is mainly adequate for the communication at the factory but it does not seem particular at the device. Unlike the traditional network such as USB or Ethernet, CAN does not send large block of data point-to-point such as from node A to node B under central bus master. Ethernet gives very poor efficiency which reduces the benefits of the higher bit rate. Its allow moving data with fast transmission speed up to 1 Mbit/s. In fact, Ethernet frame is 576-bits long which in terms of the number bits it is about ten times larger than the average-sized of CAN frame. Realization at the sensor or actuator level is relatively straightforward as compared to the Ethernet; therefore a home automation system using CAN be more easily implemented. CAN is simpler and offers shorter response time so it is surely one of the most appealing solutions because it is clearly defined, stable and well established . CAN have four different types of message that can be transmitted on a CAN bus which are data frame, remote frame, error frame and overload frame. CAN used in applications such as Anti-locking Break Systems (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) in cars .
Within the scope of the project of all system and process, the methodology requires relevant data to analyze the material and more understanding on the project. The first step is study CAN topology and protocol to understand the network. Then, proceed to designing the circuit via proteus. Load the programming via c-programming to justify the output collection then finally analyze the data base on the result.
The expected result or the purpose of the Fire Detection using Controller Area Network (CAN) is to reducing fire deaths and injuries and the damages property. In other words, fire detector is used to reduce the fire from spreading. By using the automation smart detection which is using temperature sensor in advances safety and security by finding smarter ways to save lives and protect people with integrated.
