Teaching practise and leading learning

Published: Last Edited:

This essay has been submitted by a student. This is not an example of the work written by our professional essay writers.

This essay is about how school leadership and management influence on creating an environment in which education can flourish,' The Good School'. To clarify that, effective leadership and management by head teachers and school staff are essential factors in improving the standard of the students and creating a fit environment in which students education can flourish and improve. Leadership is the important factor that inspires the energy and the commitments of the staff. A Head teacher gives the suitable direction for work and effects greatly on the success of school, because the best leaders put the student's learning at the centre of their leader ship and management activities and give our children their full right to learn and study in a safe and clear place providing them with their attention and care. Because education is a very vital factor in our life and nobody can live with out it, Taha Hussein (1898-1973) the famous Egyptian writer says that learning is like water and air for the people.

Generally, management and leadership are vital and effective in all every day life fields at school, at hospital, at factory, even at home. These concepts are important in the different fields of life because they are the core of success in any successful project because of the management assistance and experience.

However, before we go through the discussion, there should be some ground rules that will help us to discuss this subject in a fruitful way. Therefore, we will start with the meaning of the words leadership and management as an introduction to the essay and then we will illustrate the difference between them. Some styles of the leadership and management. We will define, "The Good School" and as a result, the school environment and (what makes a good school?) We will discuss the tasks and the skills of the head teacher that help to improve learning, and how they could influence learning.

. We will evaluate their school in Egypt after studying the different writers Brighouse. Gig saw and the course seminars.

To begin with, we will define the words management and leadership, the good school and the fit environment. These concepts and others will help us to analyse and evaluate how the successful leadership influence on the quality of education.

The word management in Brighouse's book "What makes a good school?" is defined as an integration and organization of activities, responsibilities, and command in accordance with certain policies and achievements of clearly known objectives. Management regarded as a factor of success and progress in every field not only the school. The major role of the manager and leader is to guide and give advice, organising, planning, controlling, and directing the staff and the group to achieve his policy and the planned objectives following the suitable curriculum.

The best leader promotes self-evaluation in the process of improvement, analyses, and promotes staff development needs. In management, a manager should have a lot of experience and technical knowledge, He should understand all his responsibilities and tasks, and a manager must involve his staff and leads them to success depending on fulfilling all his objectives and responsibilities. A manager should be flexible and aware of his staff needs that are to achieve success. As well, He must have a good experience, and wisdom to overcome the work hardships, and directs his staff in a productive way.

Whettent, Cameron, and woods (1994) in their book developing management skills, they explained that managers might need to apply certain competences supported by reliable skills to perform successfully in the changing world of organizations. These competences in addition to their functional proficiency help the managers to do their task perfectly.

For my point of view, management is integration between functional proficiency and experience organized by certain policies of clearly planned objectives to direct and guide a group of people and help them to achieve the work successfully. Nevertheless, the success depends on the character, the skills, and the tasks of the manager who can effectively create a good environment inside and outside the school, as we will discuss later.

The leader should be chosen to this job according to a certain criteria and according to some characteristics besides, regarding his skills and strong character. That we will mention afterwards in the essay.

On the other hand, Brighouse clarified that leadership is a process of guiding a person or a group, a leader should have the skills to motivate and enthusiast his followers to improve the progress of their work. Leadership is practiced under an atmosphere of flexibility and understanding. A leader is a motivator whose main role is to achieve the task of his role. A leader is more emotional than a manager is. He follows his own intuition and insight to apply the rules of the organization. A leader gets his position through his vision that unites people behind him. He is loved and trusted. It is not important to be experienced; but he can be a newcomer and may not have many organisational skills.

Ò…Ò…"Leadership development is vital because organizations take on the personality of their leaders. Leadership training and development can maximize productivity, shape a positive culture and promote harmony. To achieve this, key people must lead individuals and teams using an appropriate leadership style." http://leadershiptrainingtutorials.com/index.php?q=Why_is_Leadership_so_Important /accessed (12th/april/2010)

A leader should possess confidence, creativity, sincerity, flexibility, ability to know what he should do. First, He should have trust, and self-esteem. He also should have to create safe conditions for his teamwork, establish values needed to enhance the work, communicate openly and honestly, and give directions. To be good leader, one should listen to others, understand their problems, value their work, monitor their progress, and give constructive feedback. The leaders organise the work into well-organized units and monitor the distribution and use of principal assets - progress is excellent. The leaders continue to monitor and evaluate progress, making adjustments along the way to ensure that progress maintained and efficiency increased wherever possible.

"There is a world of differences between leadership and management: The first is primarily to do with planning and vision and the second with organization and provision. They are not, of course, neatly discrete and they impinge one on the other. There is probably a cycle in the running of any organization of planning, organizing, providing, maintaining, monitoring, evaluating, and further planning." Brighouse and wood (2008)

Rost,(2002) in his writings about leadership stated that leaders are persons who do a variety of roles in the school. Leaders are those who give direction and do their best to achieve the school policy. Formal leaders are those who occupy formal authorities, they are genuine leaders, Those who seek to achieve the goals and the function of their work, as the leader can achieve his job and perform his tasks desponding on his skills, the situation, and the nature of the planned goals.

Generally, for my view management includes leader ship the first is more effective and essential the manager has more effective role than a leader. A leader uses his views and emotions, but a manager uses planned objectives and aims that depend on a functional experience. However, the role of the manager is more effective than the role of the leader, because he uses a certain policy and a preset plan to achieve his work, neither the leader who uses his insight and intuition.

In Egypt, There are a lot of problems occur from management such as,

lack of awareness of school directors business which should work for lack of sufficient experience

failure of some principals for the performance of their duty

weak human relations in the areas of management and its impact on work within the school director and teachers

Lack of flexibility in its application and routine work

Possible solutions to solve the problems that occur from management:

a good selection of school directors and approved check and valid criteria and codified

The preset by providing programs in undergraduate educational administration

Provide training courses and qualification for scientific principals.

Choose principals of real expertise.

Proper planning for schoolwork and involvement of all actors in this layout to facilitate implementation when everyone knows that participated and contributed to that work and therefore can take responsibility.

Flexibility and accommodate emergency circumstances.

The definition of the good school in a research by Dean Theodore, R Mitchell 1932 Moore Hall. They all stated that for a long time, we have a place called 'school' in which we all look for the best educational skills for our children, the place where our children provided with the best education and where they are well and fully prepared to meet the life's challenges. Therefore, the good school is organized, have a helpful atmosphere to learn. It should have qualified professional teachers. As well as the essential part of any life fields and organization of means of entertainments and the suitable environment for the pupil, the effective head teacher whose key factors in bringing about high standards of pupils' achievement and school improvement.

Brig house clarified in his corner piece that the school is a beautiful place; it should be attractive and has a beautiful and clean appearance to help the pupils to learn and practice their hobbies to achieve the main target, which is the progress of learning and attracting the students to learn.

For my point of view, co-operation of the school staff and the quiet atmosphere helps the students to accommodate with the school atmosphere, then share the school policy and as a result encourage them to learn, in addition to the real partner ship between the parents and the staff members in monitoring the process of teaching and learning. All these factors lead to the success and the progress of the educational process.

Arm strong (2002) in his article about environment confirms that, the learning environment should be safe. Learning spaces should be open and healthy. The curriculum should be inclusive but motivates the studentt. Activities should be practiced and valid. The use of technology such as computers, tools and access o internet should be available at all times, from home and school. Wide-ranging learning styles should be presented. Emotional and intellectual sustain should be available to students. This was clear in the two kinds of environment visual and aural environments.

The visual stands for the physical appearance of the school, the buildings and their validity with the students activities. On the other hand the aural school, that concerns the quiet atmosphere of the school, as we will discuss after wards.

"The learning environment should be safe.

Learning spaces should be open and airy.

The curriculum should be comprehensive but student driven.

Activities should be hands on and related to real-world work.

An array of technology tools and access should be available at all times, from home and school.

Varied learning styles should be honored.

Emotional and intellectual support should be offered to students"

Accordingly, the factors that help to create effective teaching and learning are different, I introduced the major concepts 'leader ship and management', the good school, and the fit the environment' then I will go through the essay to focus on the details to show the ingredients that help to flourish the education.

After, we discussed the meaning of leadership and management. It is important to explain the types of Leadership styles, because it is important to choose the suitable style for a leader whether he manages a team or lead a major corporation. For the most part, understanding these styles and their impact can help leaders to develop their personal leadership style in addition to, helping leaders become more effective.

I will discuss five styles of leaderships based on an article of (Mind Tools Ltd, 1995-2010). These five styles affect the leader behaviours and help him to involve and create a good character for him and a fit environment for the staff and the pupils.

Autocratic:-This considered appropriate when decisions actually need to be taken quickly, when there is no need for input, and when team agreement is not necessary for a successful result.

Leader makes decisions without consulting to anyone else

The leader does a high level of power on the staff.

Has a negative affect on the motivation and the teamwork of the staff.

May be valid in some fields of business where decisions are needed quickly and separately.

This style will not be valid in many organizations, because the best solution that depends on the different views of the problem to create a safe and quiet environment that helps the progress of the pupils learning, which is the aim of the planned policy of each school.

Democratic: This kind of style is important when team agreement is important and effective in creating a decision, but it can be quite difficult to manage when there are lots of different perspectives and ideas.

Helps to improve the skill of making decision from different perspectives leadership may be emphasised throughout the organisation

Consult the staff before taking the decision.

Persuade the others of the correct idea.

charismatic leader ship: - A charismatic leadership style can seem similar to transformational leadership, because these leaders inspire lots of enthusiasm in their teams and are very energetic in driving others forward:-

The leaders in this style tend to think of themselves than their team.

Develop the sharing of ideas and experiences within the work to the staff.

Charismatic leader carries great tasks and needs long term plan.

For my view, Charismatic leadership carries great responsibility, and it needs a long-term commitment from the leader.

However, Effective leadership does not based on a set of attributes, behaviours, or influences. You must have a wide range of attributes and approaches that will help you to manage and direct the staff wisely.

Transactional leadership: This approach assumes that work performed only, because it rewarded, and for no other reason, and it therefore focuses on planning designing tasks and reward structures. This style used in most of the organization, because it is desponded on building relationships and developing a long-term motivating work environment.

This is a leadership style in which:-

The team takes a decision to obey their leader. They show obedience and participation to perform the tasks of the work.

The leader has the right to punish the staff if their work does not meet the planned curriculum.

The leader can control the member's income using incentives that encourage great productivity.

Transactional leadership is a scheme of managing rather than a direct leader ship style

Transformational leader ship: This is one leadership style that is appropriate in many corporate situations:-

The leader in this style is a true leader who guides directs his or her team or staff with a shared vision of the future about the school plan.

Transformational leaders are greatly visible and do their best to contact with the staff members they try to be in regular touch with the members of the staff.

They share responsibility among their group to lead the school.

Both transactional and Transformational needed in many organizations where people guarantee that work performed dependably.

This style is known the dominate leadership style that helps to understand how to lead a school. I think, this style is appropriate to be followed, because it is suitable to the needs of the work and can be applied according to the situation it is used in.

While the transformational leadership approach is often highly effective, there is no one right way to lead or manage that fits all situations. To choose the most effective approach for yourself, consider the following:

Has reliability that is to say the team should have a strong trust to despond on him.

Establish clear goals and give the staff the opportunity to share these goals.

Always stimulating his team and expect the best of their performance.

Provide the team with help and experience in need.

Helps people see beyond their self-interests and focus more on team interests and needs.

In short, transformational leaders are exceptionally motivating, and they are trusted. When your team trusts you, and is convinced by the way you lead, you can achieve great things.

Generally, Good leaders often switch automatically between styles, according to the people they lead and the work that needs to be achieved. They need to establish trust in themselves and between the members of the staff. Moreover, modify the needs of the organization with the curriculum and the current situation with the need of the team.

The leader of a school has several tasks that help him to lead the work successfully and create a fit environment for the student to study and learn effectively, Joan Dean,(1995)in his book managing the secondary school identified sex important leader ship tasks as follow:-

Promote goals, policies, and guidelines: The leader of school should all the time improve the school policy using the recent schemes to lead the school otherwise; he will not achieve progress and success. More over he should follow the recent styles to guide his staff.

I think the good leader who always asks about the newest to read and practice it in his work.

Lead the school in a well-organized program to achieve the planned policy, in other words a leader should be an exemplary character to organize and direct his staff.

Monitor progress, tackle hardships, and maintain order. The leader is the source of experience and wisdom at the school, so he helps the staff to solve their problems easily.

Providing the support to the staff to develop their professional skills and develop their character.

Procure, manage, and allocate resources.

Dean Joan, (1995) in his book managing the secondary school determined that a successful leader,

Has self-knowledge, and a personal development.

Has the capacity to live and wok with the others.

Has a good communication skill.

Has the ability to develop the positive attitude.

Understand and apply the school curriculum correctly and

"Effective school leaders hire teachers that are impassioned, organized, and that know their subject area well. The leader is as much a manager as educational administrator. Good managers hire "go getters" and "self starters" that will rise to every challenge and commit to success and excellence" (http//www. Effective leaders at schools, Effective School Leadership Promotes Success) accessed on (12/04/2010)

In Egypt, A leader must have professional leadership within the educational institution and the society to improve performance, and so he should be flexible, reliable and loved by the staff. Some leaders neglect their work and do not apply any success because they do not follow the curriculum and the government rules.

In my point of view, the leader is the controller of the school and the representative of it to the community, so he should be efficient and has a strong character to speak and negotiate the current issues with parents and the community, and have a strong character to speak to visitors and face troubles. The community and the staff should respect him.

In the good school, all members of the community, students, teachers, administrators, parents, school staff, and business and community members exert effort and do their best in order to establish a good school , get effective and successful education and improve standards of our pupils. To establish a successful school, leaders should pay attention to the components that affect education inside and outside school; these components are leadership, teaching and learning, curriculum, parents, environment and assessment system. Next, I am going to explain how we can take care, improve and develop each component to make successful school.

Hence, a good school should have a strong leader who:

Involves his staff and use his experience to guide them.

Be aware of the school curriculum and the directions in each grade to apply his task effectively.

Helps the teachers to improve the instructional strategies, the scheme and encourages the group work.

Organizes the school time and the seminars for the staff.

Creates goals for the school and make them clear for all the staff.

Develops with the staff and parents a clearly defined policy on order, grading, attendance, testing, promotions, and retention. That is to achieve the progress and the planned policy.

Has an ideal character. It is important for the leader to have a strong character to convince the others.

The team obeys and follows the person who guides them to the right way that is to say he should be reliable.

''When a school lacks effective leadership, minimal learning takes places. School leaders, beginning with the principal or headmaster, must provide strong leadership that sets a tone for the daily operations of the school community. In the absence of such leadership, discipline breaks down, academics falter, and a sense of organized chaos reigns''

Brighouse in his book what makes a good school? Referred that:

The effective leader should follow clear, counselling, and non-hierarchical approach. He should divide leadership responsibilities effectively.

He should be approachable and can affect the school staff effectively.

He has to understand the classroom practice, as well as the role of the school in the wider community.

He has to advice the staff and directs them in a polite and humorous way.

Again, for my point of view the successful leader is the person who leads his school calmly and achieves his targets without many troubles. In addition to his humorous and effective character that directs his team to achieve the designed plan.

Brighouse stated that the head teacher has a great affect on the school success, and he effected on the staff with his experience and wisdom. The leader in a school is the driving force to success. He should state the school policy and inform the staff with his planned objectives. The head teacher should evaluate and praise the school staff regularly to encourage them to achieve success.

A good school should have good qualified teachers who:-

Teach the students efficiently and effectively can affect the pupil's minds and attract them to the material that he is explaining.

Control the subject matte they are teaching in the class and lead the information to the direction to the levels of the students.

Organize challenging and interesting classroom assignments that are appropriate to the subject and join the information they have learned with the new information as well as giving the students extra assignment to do and practise in their free time.

Inform students with their recent standards and developing regularly to be aware of their standard.

Use tests and evaluation as a way to measure the student's progress.

Has the sense of humour to create an appropriate environment inside the class.

Nelson Thrones, (2001) illustrated in his book effective teaching in schools, that there are tasks of the teacher to help improving teaching at schools, which are,

To help teachers to develop their skills, because the teacher should develop his skills regularly to be able follow the recent schemes of teaching and technology.

To help teachers build up their knowledge and understanding of effective teaching, As the teacher should be aware of the school curriculum and should elicit it to his pupils.

To help the teacher to evaluate his critical thinking, that is to develop and improve his thought and the scheme of teaching regularly.

In short, the teacher is the second important reason in the school success after the head teacher, whose role is to perform the school policy and curriculum that the leader planned and the government recommended. He is the factor that joins the student with the school policy and curriculum after the guidance team at the school.

In Egypt, some times the teacher is not qualified and every stage needs a specific teacher. Furthermore, the teacher is not rewarded for his work.

In a good school, there are counsellors who:

Understand the school and its community and be aware of the potency, assets, and the targets of each.

Make a circle of connection between the students, parents, and school personal assist.

Help the students in class choice.

Be aware of the exams classification and the assessment, and then clarify it to parent, teachers, and staff.

Follow the recent testing requirements, that is to say using new exams technique.

Give all the students chance and access to proper counselling and give the students regular and urgent advice on program planning, requirements for graduation and requirements For College.

Good schools usually have additional support staff to look after the student health and care about his body, because it is important to have a good health for instance

-A school psychologist

-A school nurse

- A child abuse counsellor

- Bilingual education assistant

- Proficiency in English service

-A school doctor

-An attendance and adjustment counsellor

A good school should be aware of the backgrounds, needs, and aspirations of its students and pick up a curriculum that meets these needs. Hence good schools:

Select a broad curriculum within the guiding principle established by both the state and the local mandates and is suitable to the students' age and educational environment.

Give emphasis to basic curriculum with Science, Math, and History.

This curriculum should be clear for all the children to learn it.

Again, this curriculum should join the academic activities with the athletic one.

It should help the pupils to develop their skills and join the academic study with the work force and every day life.

This curriculum should assess the school offering in continuous time and involve studies related to the social and academic changes in the society.

These factors will help to create stability and understanding between the staff members and consequently to achieve the main reason, which is improving the student's standard, and as a result the good quality of education.

Assessment is another major important reason to create good school, which presents high quality education. Meanwhile assessment is an effective process to measure the student's strength and weakness of the applied curriculum.

In schools good teachers use assessment to:-

Improve the student's standard.

Analyse the strength and the weakness of the student's regularly.

Help students to judge and criticize their peers' standard to improve it.

Decide if the class, a group, or individual students are ready to go to the next lesson or not.

Regular assessment is kind of self-evaluation to measure your standard.

The calendar according to lists of diagnosis and file delivery and the learner to accomplish with strengths and weaknesses of each completed.

Diverse methods of control and performance evaluation of students

Use calendar results periodically to a strategy to improve education student.

Colon Conner, (1991) in his book assessment and testing in secondary schools, he discussed that assessment is to:

Measure the capacity of acquisition of knowledge, concepts, and skills.

The ability to apply the above to new situations, that is to say help the practice them in the class.

Practice communication skills with variety of ways and variety of audiences.

Practice your skills in the class and show your all capacity in different situations.

I think assessment is essential and important to assess and develop the process of education.

In Egypt, this process is used but with less attention and the teachers uses old schemes in tests and exams. The government should pay more attention to develop and improve this process.

To generalize, assessment is a successful scheme to measure the student's progress and to see to what extend we have applied the curriculum successfully and effectively as well as it gives the staff and the teacher a great chance to valuate his strategies of teaching.

Further more, Parent's involvement is very important to follow their child progress regularly and motivate him to increase his level as well as. The family plays a great role in forming their child character. The following aspects will clarify the family role in achieving teaching progress.

The family should take part in creating the school-panned objectives.

The family should share in the developing the school policy to be aware of their students duties and help him.

The family should visit the school regularly to follow the school their child's progress.

The family should spend much time helping their pupils to study and revise his homework.

The family should give a good impression about school for their children.

The family should listen and reply the child's questions and inquiries.

In Egypt, The family plays an important part in improving the process of teaching and learning because to follow-up your child progress is a good motivation for the child and encourage him to study and improve his standard because the father for the child is an exemplary for his child to follow and imitate him.

Creating a fit environment is a hard task to do for all people who work in the school and outside school. It is not the responsibility of the head teacher only but all people who work at the school participate in creating a fit environment for learning process. It is also the responsibility of parents outside school and community what I mean is 'creating a fit environment is a process, which has a lot of ingredients, the head teachers, teachers, staff, pupils, parents, and leaders in the country.

In this good school, all members of the community, students, teachers, administrators, parents, school staff, and business and community members would participate in developing and implementing studies. Flexible scheduling would be the norm. One group even recommended twenty-four-hour school for those who think more effectively at night"

What do we mean by a fit environment? Why is it important? What are the two types of environment inside the school? Can our language inside the school help in creating a fit environment? How can we evaluate the fit environment in the school? These questions will be provided in the following lines.

As, we defined the word environment in my introduction, now we will illustrate the main ingredients that will help to create a fit environment to learn and achieve the schools

"In this ideal school, all members of the community students, teachers, administrators, parents, school staff, and business and community members would participate in developing and implementing studies. Flexible scheduling would be the norm. One group even recommended twenty-four-hour school for those who think more effectively at night

A fit environment is important, because it helps everybody at school does his job well and properly, it helps pupils learn because they have many facilities, which enable them to learn, for example, modern equipment, computers, qualified teachers, materials and books. It also makes the pupils love going to school, as it is a clean, comfortable, and beautiful place. A fit environment helps teachers with their work because they have equipment and materials that help them explain lesson for pupils they find a clean place and rooms. Teachers also can share taking decisions at school if the head teacher creates a fit environment in order to take suitable decisions for their school. For parents, a fit environment is important because they make sure that their children stay in a clean and comfortable place many hours a day they also make sure that their kids learn in a correct way.

There are two types of environment, visual and aural. The first is the visual, which concerns with buildings, classrooms, science labs, computer rooms, and gardens. The buildings of the school should be well organized, the classrooms should be on the same floors, and other rooms should be on different floors. I think this helps teachers have a close eye on pupils in the classrooms, and helps teachers move from one classroom to another in a short time.

There are two buildings in my school in Egypt; the head teacher located some of the third year classrooms in one building, and the other classrooms in the other building. This means that for me and most of the teachers we have to move from one building to another many times a day, which I believe, wastes our time.

Science labs also should be provided with materials, objects and tools that help science teachers do experiments. Computer rooms should be provided with large numbers of computers and CDs to ensure that each pupil in the class has one computer. The playground should be clean and has much space for pupils to play. However, in some schools in Egypt, because there are not enough buildings for the increasing number of pupils in Egypt the department has to set up more buildings in the playground, and I think it is a dangerous problem in Egypt. In addition, in some private schools the owners of the schools set up new buildings in the playground to increase the numbers of classrooms to have more pupils in order to earn more money from more pupils.

The other type of environment is the aural environment, which concerns with noise in the school floors and corridors. Neither teachers nor pupils concentrates or pay attention if there is noise outside the classrooms in many schools during the school day we can hear echoing footsteps in the corridors. The shrill bells and the clanging doors, upstairs we can hear moving desks or pupils running, so some head teachers tries to solve this problem by putting carpets on the floors of classrooms to create calm and quiet climate for learning and teaching process.

Our language inside the school can create a fit environment for teachers, pupils, and parents too.

Tim Brighouse and David Woods mentioned in the book (What makes a good school now) (2006) "Language can make or break a school. Careless talk can sap a school's energy. The energy and motivation of even the most optimistic and willing colleagues can soon drain away. So using 'we' rather than 'I' and 'you' is important, not simply in the spoken word but in written form too. You can use 'I' when taking the blame and 'you' rather than 'we' when giving praise and celebrating genuine success.

In order to know if the environment in the school is fit or unfit there are some questions need to be answered.

Is there a clear focus on learning and achievement? Which means is all learning time is used for learning? Do lessons start on time, and are there no interruptions?

Are learning resources engaging, and do they match students' learning needs?

Do teachers, pupils, and parents respect and support one another?

Is there good communication between teachers and parents?

Do teachers, pupils, and parents believe in the value of education?

Is the school welcoming to students and parents?

Is the school a pleasant place to work for pupils and teachers?

Is the school a safe place?

Are students praised for their achievement, including attendance and behaviour?

"School climate is more than the aural the visual. It is caught in the corridors, in the, in the way people behave one to another, in doors that are held open or closed carelessly in your face, in adults and members of the staff who have time for snatched smile or chat with passing students or pass unblinking or unrecognizing a fellow member of the community" Bighouse, and woods (2008)

To sum up, the fit environment in the school is an essential part in improving education and achieving the policy of the school. It helps the pupil to live at the school as a second home for him and participates effectively in the school activities with the help of the school staff, the parents, and the community.

In Egypt, We cannot find the participation of the family with the school in many houses. We some times find a person who asks about his son and others do not ask, but when you send to him a formal letter to look at his son standard. Some buildings are suitable and fit.

The use of the labs is available, but the capacity and the experience are not provided.

To sum up, I would like to conclude that creating a successful and good school needs paying attention to the components, which form the school. These components are the head teacher representing the leadership, pupils representing learning process, teachers representing teaching process. More ever, we should consider the assessment system, which shows the standards of the pupils, involving parents to participate in their children's learning. All these elements should be looked after in a frame of fit environment. Dealing with leadership, styles of leadership were introduced to head teachers who should not be stuck to one style; they can use more than one style according to the situation itself. Tasks and characteristics of leaders were clearly mentioned to be known for head teachers. Dealing with learning, we can help pupils learn best by using ICT; they should be helped to be effective learners by improving their thinking skills to help them work independently. I have received a website from my tutor about ICT that shows the importance of using ICT in schools. When I come back to Egypt, I will focus on using ICT that is why I had ECDL certificate to gain knowledge about technology. For teachers, there are some features of good teachers that need to be examined before employing them to ensure they can do their work accurately. I think teachers should have some good characteristics because they have an impact on their pupils unconsciously. Hamacheck, (1999) said, "Consciously, we teach what we know, unconsciously, we teach who we are." Considering these words, when I come back to Egypt, I should speak politely and behave courteously because my pupils are going to imitate me in some actions. Teachers can use many teaching strategies that help them develop their performance during the lesson. Teachers always need to be developed and trained through staff development programs. Egypt tries to apply that system in many different ways like video conferences special meetings and missions to foreign countries. Assessment system is very important, to be effective, there are some criteria of good assessment that should be met to show real and accurate results. After assessment, teachers realise the weakness points of pupils to improve them. They also realise strength points to enhance them. Parents play a vital role in their children's education. I have introduced some means to get them involved at school. Teachers and staff have to exert more effort to increase communication by using different means of communication such as e-mails and phone calls. Environment is a very important component because it is similar to a soil, if you grow good seeds in bad soil, it will not grow well. If you grow good seeds in good soil, your harvest will be good.
