Primary Education is foundation not only for building a bright and secure future of the child but also for sustainable growth of the nation. But ,imparting primary education to all has become one of the major daunting tasks for the government. India, even lags behind with respect to other developing countries in the quality of elementary education. Elementary education in India means five years of schooling from the age of five. The government has made its best efforts to achieve the goal like making elementary education compulsory and free and even introduced several schemes like mid day meal ,giving incentives to parents for retaining the girl child in school. But, the goal of universal elementary education in India

Our main aim is to bridge digital divide and hence knowledge divide in the world by introducing cost efficient digital slate in rural areas. It offers an opportunity to look beyond the classrooms for the learning process or focus on the non formal methods of education. In this system each child in the rural area will have a digital slate , which would be the complete stationary for the student .There would be no need of blackboards ,books ,notebooks even physical teacher as PC will act as instructor (in their mother tongue) , blackboard, notebooks where child could experience the same experience of writing on paper but would be writing on d-slate and the whole study material could be read on the same . Even the study material would be made comprehensive ,interactive so that children are encouraged to grasp the knowledge imparted to them. In our model even the exams will be conducted electronically .Progress of the children will be monitered electronically. This program has an advantage of imparting comparable education standards irrespective of disparities based on caste ,creed ,location or sex that have acted as major barrier in implementing our goal.

RDEEM is the only way to reach out to large segment of marginalized and underprivileged children bridging digital divide and ensuring universal primary education for all.

As mentioned above the rural regions, especially in under developed and developing countries, have a very high school dropout rate as children are made to work once they attain a certain age, without paying much attention to their education. Moreover there is generally a lack of quality in the teaching and most students (especially girls) remain in oblivion to the joy and thrill which education is meant to bring about.

The RDEEM in such an environment would provide an alternate medium of education. Its main purpose would be to provide classroom type environment to each student at home and at their convenience to students who cannot attend the normal classes due to their daytime work or other reasons with the best teacher monitoring their progress .It will also provide educational content like textbooks and class videos, interactive games for inspiring them to study and making it an enjoyable activity. In addition the device would serve a very useful purpose of displaying the weather forecasts, news snippets and other customized information gathered from the internet. It would open the doors of knowledge to the children and give them a chance to get inspired through appropriate content display. Regular content updates can be made at the terminals to keep it in sync with the curriculum and at the same time offering the less privileged children, the best possible content. As, it has been found that inequalities in access to education continue to hinder the process of development whereas as our structure does not enforce classroom teaching would be able to eliminate gender inequality gap . In rural areas teacher to student ratio is very high and most of them actually don’t have one. Our structure does not enforce classroom teaching hence in it no student will be without an instructor.

RDEEM would also give the students a medium of networking with nearby peers and develop their interaction skills. Through this interaction they would be able to compete with their urban counterparts. In addition, videos/slides of special Government/NGO development programs can be uploaded to be displayed continuously for the benefit of the entire village community.

Hence our model will eliminate differences in enrolment, drop-out and learning achievement among gender and social groups .This could even be used as successful classroom teaching applications instead of computers and laptops which pose surmountable practical problems in installation. As already mentioned it can support various forms of student collaboration. Digital slate will be solar powered hence would not require an infrastructure set up for its successful implementation.

Proposed Software Architecture


1 Low cost : our EES will promote distant learning .

2 Students will be able to attend live lectures and even interact with teachers at will.

3 Students could also record videos for later use or even view previously recorded videos.

4 Students will be able to share notes as well as other material like recorded videos among themselves .

5 Gaming is a crucial part of learning and we have considered that by allowing students to play multiplayer strategy game or games like Sudoku etc.

6 They could share files with instructors using file server.

7 They could share files among themselves using wireless

communication .

8 Teachers could dispatch assignments at a go to all students and students reply to them by EES itself.

9 By doing maximum work on screen we will save large amount of paper and hence save trees which will in turn

Stop global warming and save our environment .

10 If everything goes right students will be able to browse internet using wireless communication using our servers .

11 Everything will be available in native language using web based application like Bing translator or Microsoft Translator Interactive SDK .

12 Students will be allotted to teachers and students will be able to clear there doubts from a large database (if a similar query already exists) otherwise a teacher will help him/her out.

13 Everything will be screen touch and there would be pen enabled writing to give d-slate feel of paper taking experience to next level.

14 Users will be able to manage their daily routine and schedule by web applications like spreadsheets , word ,etc.
