Personal effectiveness (Parker & Stone, 2003) means the ways of self-development aiming to improve ones personal, social and other contexts of career. This report has made for outlining the main factors of reflective practice and its effect on continuous personal development. This idea may help anyone to find out his or her strengths and weaknesses of day-to-day life; it may help to categorize one's personality and can help to manage many environmental factors. Improvement of behavioural competencies (skills) ensures personal effectiveness. Individuals (Parker & Stone, 2003) with the skills of good understanding, effective communication and accurate listening and leadership quality can easily make difference by leading them towards success. For developing self-understanding, it is mandatory to focus on personal identity. Knowing thyself helps to identify major strengths and weaknesses that will lead anyone to take the right decision for their future. Beliefs and values help to develop personal foundation. Positive beliefs will help individuals to take the right decisions for their future and negative believes will lead them towards confusion.
According to Robbins (1986), to form individuals' personalities, foundation beliefs and values play an important role. Moreover, according to some theorists, one of the most important and powerful sources is the belief and this powerful source can be influenced by some factors like education, religion, customs and culture. It has also influenced by individual's experiences. There are two types of beliefs and these are positive and negative. Behaviour and performance can be influenced by these beliefs. Performance can be badly affected by negative beliefs and the opposite can be done by positive beliefs. The positive beliefs help to increase self-confidence.
In a study, Kolb cited by Burt (1995) mentioned that past experiences can help to form the future plan and also can help to improve individuals. For personal development I don't analyse only the successes but mostly analyse the failures more and it helps me to manage my effectiveness. David Kolb explained a learning cycle with four related factors which is very effective in experimental learning. According to Kolb, proper analysis and utilization of past experiences helps to reach on personal effectiveness. Lack of success can help to increase experiences. These experiences can play an important role of planning for the next situation and also help to improve the individual.
David A. Kolb with Roger Fry (Mintzberg, 1977) emphasizes effective communication, which can embody knowledge and skills and is helpful for self-development. Team spirit and higher performance are encouraged by good communications. Facts, emotions and needs are the fundamental elements of communication. The brains logic and opinions are the basic of facts. The non-logical and non-rational activities are emotions. Fundamental development needs are logical. Various types of communications help anybody to improve personal development. To improve personal development verbal, non-verbal and the written communications play important role. Tone of voice and body language also listening are the main features of active communication and effective for personal development. By following Kolb's experimental learning, controlling emotions is the key factors for me to take the right decisions at right times.
In my opinion and experiences, theories do not exactly provide a solution for every eventuality. To apply any theory I think fast on my feet. Theory gives me the basis of understanding techniques to apply this to practice more efficiently. Past experiences and achieved skills help me to highlight further areas for training and development.
King and Kitchener (1987) state that, 'the reflective framework models aid anybody to improve some skills, helps to think for future activities, helps anybody in fast and busy situations; reflection helps learning new things accurately, helps to form new concepts and help to realize new ideas'.
At the very beginning of this report I thought that it was very complicated but after sometimes I knew that it was a matter of thinking. Instead of enjoying the report I became resentful because its intrusiveness.
Schon (1987) emphasizes on improvement of professional knowledge. The 'reflection in action' and the 'the reflection on action' are the reflections of Schon. According to King and Kitchener reflection has developed my cognitive ability and for this reason I have learnt more about reflection and about myself. I also think that everybody should apply the experiences drawn during reflection
Gibbs (1988) represented a reflective model which deals with the straightforward matter and it also expresses the situation clearly. This model is related to feelings analysis and experiences evaluation.
Johns (Platzer et. al., 1997) represented a structured reflection model. This structured reflection model of learning can be used to understand the analysis of critical incident. It is generally used in more complex matters of decision
Reflective (Robert, 1974) practice helps me to learn self-development and it also helps me to develop my communication skills in many ways which is very vital for my identity. The personal identity and realistic communication system help me to lead any organization in any environment. Reflective practice helps to form leadership, which influences the thoughts and behaviours of various people. The position of the leader may be formal or informal.
Reflective practices help to review, plan, monitors and to evaluate the progress of individuals. I am now able to provide some techniques which can help anybody in some programs. For the continuous personal development I can take some steps, like:
Improving a massive and logical vision.
Form an active and keen management team and lead the team with the help of achieved experienced and skills.
Leading any organization or any team accurately and according to team management rules.
I can develop the verbal and body language skills which may affect communications positively.
I can provide constructive feedback for managing people and also can help to manage individual's personalities.
I can help to develop interfacing skills across any business organization and also can help to remove various obstacles for the particular team.
I may accept criticism, provide feedback and can take any positive input from learned individuals.
Using the Gibbs model I can become very clear about any situations and can take further steps for betterment. From John's model I have learnt how to critically analyze any matter.
My spending time in the student business conference was too effective that it has made great impact on my skills and learning new things. This first professional improvement conference was an oral presentation in front of all of our students.
The presentation in front of our students was an exciting matter for the first time and taking part in this conference I found that it was direct and very related and straight to the point. Participating in the conference and presenting my work in the personal and professional development seminar my confidence improved a lot to present my works to others and learnt many things new like how body language helps to express emotions and ideas what I could not thought before.
At first time I could not understand many systems related to conference and thought that it was just exercise which may open the charm of the participant and we knew better every one from the conference. One of the presenters emphasizes on the presentation style and about the requirements of presentation which was quite difficult matters. The presenter showed how to present the report, what is the basic structure of the report and also showed the attitudes related to presentation. From this seminar l learnt presentation styles and formats easily which are much needed in the professional life especially in the business sector to describe new products and promotions.
None the less I think that it is a good way to communicate through to other students and lectures if it were used by other students. Collecting data has been essential to the course all the work that I have presented even the report that I'm writing now. The conference is a great way of meeting for me with the professionals. From the student business conference I have learnt the process of data collection and also the way of data presentation which was presented by some professionals. I learnt from the seminar that gathering information from various sources and apply it in exact sector is a vital matter for any professionals. After attaining the conference I have changed my working style in any course report and trying to follow the professional styles. Now I am making the notes of any important information related to my course work to apply it for the current and future references. Now I am using direct and clear data presentation system.
I have not faced any major problems during my learning in the conference. I felt that I was able enough to overcome any unexpected situations and I could learn in faster way. In the seminar some topics related to creativity and communications were discussed which was irrelevant to our course. If I expanse this topic it can be easily observed that I have improved some of my presentation skills and this progress happened because of the effective conferences. This conference is a great opportunity for me to learn new and necessary things. From this conference I learnt how to attract audiences by various talking and using proper body language, how to tackle audiences questions etc.
For the future I am planning to do my work in the more organized ways which will save my time and will help me in my professional life. After the conference I am trying to improve my presentation skills and styles. Following the instructions of the learned presenter I am doing better in this sector day by day. Now a day I don't rush any of my professional activities. Because of the reflection it can develop the grad which I am getting. Now I am satisfied with the activities those I have performed until now.
By (Weber, 1947) the quality leadership people may influence very easily and this quality may control many difficult things in many unexpected situations. This leadership may be designated from reliable authority or can be dependent on owns ability. The Greenwich MBA program helps to improve the leadership in many effective ways in some practical sectors. This system holds some essential elements. As a good professional it is very essential to be aware of various format and requirements surrounding them. Observing the different forms of leadership and also its usefulness and bad effect professional should develop the weakness points.
The course Leadership taught me how to work in a team as a leader and as a member to achieve team objectives. Transformational leadership is the best way of leadership that I have learnt from this subject. Transformational leader motivated his follower to go beyond limit. Good leader encourages, listen to followers and tried to get involved to the whole process and achieve outcomes. So from now I always try to practice these leadership skills.
Now I always listen to my team member's opinion, making any decision democratically, resolve any problem with open discussion.
I have learned some useful business tools like SWOT,FIVE FORCES, PESTLE from strategy and transformation course that will helped me to understand the external and internal environment that are related to business. In addition how should I utilize opportunities by using my strength? Also prevent any upcoming threat through eliminating my weakness. It will help me to understand the situation and take the decision about right time and place. I have learnt strategy to lead the business make profitable and to avoid losses. So,
I will observe both the internal and external environment related to my company and will try to improve it;
I will invent some newer strategies to attract the important stakeholders of my company.
As money is the main factor for any business and using the financial management knowledge, I have learned how to take investment decision, how to manage funds, more over importance of liquidity. Managing risk throughout the project, cost volume profit analysis helped me to take decision which one will be profitable for me. Also help me to make a financial planning for organization, now
I will consider the revenue growth with care;
I will take steps to keep the price of the product reasonable;
I will make a good relation with quality and cost;
I will pay attention on a specific business area;
I will take the best step against the main competitors
Also Human resource management helped to learn recruiting process, conduct training and development that employer required for their organization. It taught me to learn conflict resolution between teams and individual. For new staffs selection I will try to avoid recruitment agencies. For the feasibility and substantial contribution of clients I will invent a strategic architecture for my company. For the company's betterment
I will try to rewrite the policies and rules of my company,
I will invent the newer competitive space;
For better opportunities I will implement open ended and timeless testing system.
I will try to abandon obsolete ideas for my company.
To make my company successful I will not only add value but will reinvent it. I will build a good relation among suppliers, clients, business partners and stakeholders of my company that I have learned from my business context and international business environment. More over using Information management strategy in my business I will be able to makes its exclusive, efficient, and cost-effective.
