In todays society, education is a fundamental component. Adolescents all over the nation are going to school and are mandated to take the four most important subjects: English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. These classes give students the basis they need to pursue a higher education and eventually earn a job. However, some people actually believe that science is too difficult to teach in schools and should be eliminated from the subjects which are mandatory to teach. If science were to be eliminated from the list of mandatory subjects, where would the country end up? Science is greatly needed in today's world with the constantly advancing technology, so it is very beneficial to teach it in schools. Teachers are very capable to teach science and with a skilled teacher most scientific concepts are not too hard for students to grasp. Also technology can be incorporated into teacher's lessons to help the learning process and provide clear examples. Scientists can help as well because they can be used to assist teachers and students and provide specialized knowledge in the area being taught. (Brown Reference Group 78-79) Science should be taught in all schools because without it the future of the country will be in jeopardy; therefore it should continue to be mandated in all schools throughout the country.
Many people in the world today believe that science should not be taught in schools. This is not plausible; science is a must in our curriculum. Science is essential to students and to the country; the future of the country depends on science. Without science education where would the technology of the country be? Most of the high tech equipment would not even exist. The United States relies on the science program to develop intelligent and creative individuals to help our country keep pace with the rest of the world and their rapidly developing technology. These individuals coming out of the science programs develop the new technology of the country. This technology is a key to survival, which also makes science key. Science not only determines the future of the country, it also opens up the minds of students.
Science teaches students many things. It opens up the minds of students and teaches them why things happen. Such as why there is night and day or why things happen to the human body. It also teaches great problem solving that students can use throughout their lives. Science makes students more aware and stimulating an interest in science in younger students will greatly increase the populations understanding of science. Despite the necessity for science in this country, many people still believe science should not be taught in schools. Critics say science is too difficult or abstract. Believe it or not many legitimate opinions are given to support this thought. Contenders may say students cannot grasp the difficult concepts of science and therefore it is boring to them. If the class is boring and students do not listen, then what is the point of teaching it? Also, many people still have the concept that science is a boring class with a geeky teacher who uses outdated books. Who wants to have that class? Critics also say that science is too difficult to teach effectively in schools. For example the mathematics that are needed to do physics or the abstract thinking ability that is essential in understanding the concepts of the cell. This is mostly in part that the teachers cannot understand or get the material across to the students. Lastly, in the past couple of years there have been very bad test results in the sciences and a very low number of students attending college with a major in science. Contrary to what the critics say, science is not too difficult and therefore it definitely should be taught in schools. First of all, the concepts of science can be grasped without much difficulty. If the correct technique is used to teach science the students will not feel overloaded with work and concepts. This can be achieved by teaching science in a slow build up with the easy parts coming first. For example, the teachers can begin teaching students the structure and function of a cell and then move on to teach them the various tasks and complicated processes in which the cell is involved. This way the students can learn and understand before the more complex parts are taught. Also, with this slow buildup of science knowledge the students will be provided with a framework within which they will appreciate the more advanced concepts. Another reason why science is in fact not too difficult is that teachers can effectively teach the subject. Almost all teachers that have a degree and are trained in the correct methods so that they have the wealth of knowledge and skills to teach science effectively. When science is taught correctly the students can understand the concepts and also begin to enjoy what they are doing. Science engages the attention of the students by explaining what they see in the world around them and enhancing their understanding of everyday phenomena. Therefore, science is a class that students want to have and that preconception of science as an impossibly difficult and boring subject is proven false. Therefore, certain people think science should not be taught because of the technology requirement. The main argument is that the modern day technology is much too expensive to incorporate into a science lesson and too expensive to purchase it in all the schools. They also say that the technology used in the classrooms today is irrelevant and does not apply to the teaching of science. In reality the majorities of people in this country do not believe this and therefore go on to disprove these claims.
Technology is, in fact, very important to the teaching of science and is very beneficial to the students. First of all, technology is extremely relevant to the teaching of science. Teachers can relate their lessons to the latest news stories and the newest technology. Such as the satellites that are used in space to work cell phones or GPS. Also, news stories such as the earthquake and tsunami in Japan can be explained with much relevance to science. Another reason why technology is important to the teaching of science is that it provides great reference material and makes science more accessible. Teachers can use the internet to help the students learn and give them visuals of what they are learning. Also teachers can even base their lesson on technology creating web- based projects for the students to complete. Technology can provide great reference material and this makes science more accessible because in today's world technology is everywhere. The use of technology can help the teaching of science because it provides many stimulating tools. For example videos can be used to explain to students some of the more complicated concepts and a lot of lab equipment can be purchased so students can participate in active learning. Also technology is not too expensive to be purchased and used in classrooms because governments all over the world are investing more and more money towards science education. Another reason is that classroom technology is made simple because it is made for students and younger individuals. So, it is perfect for the classroom setting. Technology is of fundamental importance to the teaching of science, helping the teachers, improving the students' knowledge of science, and helping the overall teaching of science. They have many reasons why science should not be taught in schools but one of the big ones is that science should not be taught in classrooms because there is not enough help for the teachers in conveying the complicated theories to their students. The people who are for science in schools say that this can easily be fixed by incorporating scientists or some kind of science associate into the classroom. But the critics say that this cannot work. They think that it is not beneficial for these professionals to participate in the classroom because they are unfamiliar with education methods and objectives. Therefore they would have much difficulty communicating with the students and they might make them bored or confuse them. As a result of this students will learn to hate science and steer away from it in their later studies. Scientists and science associates can be extremely beneficial to the classroom setting. First of all these science professionals can be used in the classroom to demonstrate the relevance of science. They have the knowledge of what is going on in the science community and they can show the students how what goes on in the real world is very much connected to what they are being taught. Not only can they demonstrate the relevance of science, they can also enliven lessons and bring new and different perspectives. The students can see science through the eyes of the professionals and actually understand what is going on. Therefore they will not just be boring themselves memorizing concepts. They actually know what they mean and what their purpose is. Furthermore, by having science professionals in the classroom the lesson is enlivened because the students are seeing a new face with a new personality and this can make a huge difference in the student's ability to learn the subject. Scientists and various science professionals can also be beneficial to the learning of science in many other ways. When the students meet the science professional assigned to their classroom they will be able to get a clearer picture of what a scientist is actually like. They are not just a nerd with very few friends throughout all of their life. They are regular people. So the negative stigma that is cast on scientists is removed and students will want to have a career in science. The scientist is also an example to the students of how it is possible to make science a career choice and be successful. Science associates can furthermore be great role models for the students. The students will not only have a second teacher they will also have a positive role model. All science associates are extremely smart and professional people. They can convey their manners and positive attitude towards the students in order to make the students better people. They can demonstrate what life can be like if the students perform to the best of their abilities in school as well. Therefore the science professionals can be great role models to the students. These science associates will keep students interested in the classroom and this can be established on a long term basis with the incorporation of these people several times throughout the year into the student's curriculum. Another way science associates are very helpful to the teaching of science is that they can conduct experiments and projects that the students will be amazed by and this will grab the student's interest. They can bring the students on field trips to different places such as a zoo or a body museum. These places demonstrate how science is in fact happening everywhere, and they will grab the student's attention even more than experiments performed inside the classroom. They can also help the teachers whenever they need help getting important concepts across to the children and they can even help teachers to develop their lesson plans. If these professionals are correctly incorporated into the curriculum the students will come out of their course will a very strong base of knowledge on which to build and with a desire to learn more science. Overall it is extremely advantageous to have scientists inside the classroom giving both the students and teachers specialized knowledge and help in the subject, while also breaking down and eliminating the preconceptions of the science geeks and the viewing of science as a difficult subject. Can there be any more arguments against the teaching of science in schools? Unfortunately there are. The most stubborn people just say science is not important. Therefore do not teach it. The most stubborn people out there just blatantly believe that science is not important. Many do not even argue their point. They just believe in their world that science is not needed. But they are sadly mistaken; science is of fundamental importance to our world.
Science as a whole could be the number one reason why the human population has come such a long way in just barely a century. To go from riding a horse and buggy to rocket ships in outer space and the development of hovercrafts is nothing short of miraculous. All of the credit should be given to science. Without science life as we know it would be nonexistent. Most of the world would still be a mystery to people and no one would have even half of the common knowledge about earth that they have today. Also besides not having modern technology, the medicines and vaccines that exist today would be nowhere to be found. Therefore most of us would probably only be living to our fifties if we were lucky. Where would we be without science? Nowhere, today's world would be nonexistent. Science is of fundamental importance to the development of human life and culture. Everyday science brings new discoveries in everything from gene therapy, space technology, computer science, and pretty much anything else a person can think of. This makes it possible for us to live healthier and longer lives and also conserve vital natural resources. Another benefit from science is that it teaches great problem solving skills that are necessary to be an intelligent person and have a beneficial career. So science is really of extreme importance and it is key to the survival of the human race. The importance of science in our classrooms is not only recognized by a few unimportant people, it is obviously taken into account by many of the most powerful people all over the world.

Also from 2007 the National and State Science Education Standards started a program where every state is required to measure students' progress in science at least once in each of three grade spans. This puts great emphasis on meeting standards and once again demonstrates how important it is that students be taught science. Science is important in every aspect and is a must in the curriculum of today's students. Students must not go through school without being taught science. In order for progress to continue in our country a new generation of scientists and science associates is a must to carry on the work in the new eras.
The importance of science as a whole cannot be expressed in words. If it was not taught in schools throughout the country we would almost definitely be one of the weakest and unimportant countries in the world. Hence science is needed in every curriculum of every school all over the country. Science must be taught in schools because it is of fundamental importance to our society. Science is not too difficult to teach because many scientist and science professionals are out there and willing to help students gain the knowledge they need. Also modern technology can help make the teaching of science much simpler while not ruining the schools' budget.
