The MYP 3 science course incorporates basic information, knowledge, facts, and practical applications of the scientific branches, which are biology, chemistry, and physics. The intention of the course is to familiarize the students with the concepts and basics of the science branches and to ensure they develop appropriate skills in handling theoretical scientific knowledge presented in lecture and practical applications offered in school laboratories.

Elements and the periodic table, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, halogens and noble gases.

Ionic bonds and covalent bonds.

Acids and bases:

Properties of acids and bases, pH scale, neutralization, everyday examples.

Physics:

Rays and Waves:

Rays and light, laws of reflections, flat and curved mirrors, refraction of light, lenses, everyday uses of mirrors and lenses, transverse and longitudinal waves, wave equation.

Assessment:

This course will use variety of assessment tools including weekly quizzes, unit tests, presentations, projects, lab work,….etc. Most of these assessments will be assessed according to the following MYP criteria:

This objective refers to enabling students to gain a better understanding of the role of science in society.

Students should be aware that science is a global endeavor and that its development and applications can have consequences for our lives.
