After much thought and discussion with my advisor and professors in Kuwait, I decided that study abroad would allow me to grow as a potential psychologist and as an individual, further developing my artistic skills and personal style. I could channel new experiences and perceptions into my artwork. In addition, on a more personal level, I believed that a study abroad experience would teach me how to become more independent and gain a greater sense of confidence and personal identity.

After some independent research and initial contacts, I decided to come to England. I am or was considered as a high achieving candidate and chose the University of my choice because of its superior services for people with potential academic skills and its enclosed, rural campus.

People stride through education in different ways. Each individual possess different characteristics, people have strength that they like to talk about while they have variation of weaknesses that they like to hide from others as they may feel that this is an embarrassment or something that they have to hide as it may lead to disadvantages that people may reflect on in the future so each individual would always like to show and possess characteristics which are positive and beneficial to the audience. I feel that my skills sometimes over shadow my positive character. Language is another barrier which is important for me to develop and enhance.

My weakness is and can be considered as strength. Weakness is a characteristic that every human being possesses a quality nevertheless and my weaknesses are expressed so that I can develop myself and gain help from others. What I have understood is that if I express my weakness to a colleague who I can trust, that person in return can recommend me a way to overcome that weakness.

Every individual possess strengths and ability's as well some of the weaknesses which will start to work on to develop his or her skills. One of the strengths that I possess is that at work I am well organized and synchronized to make every day a successful day at least with walking into class with a fresh and steady mind to capture what is required, so I have to read through the work before I start doing it and get out the most important points that I have to work on.

Another point is that I am one of those people who likes to make friends and socialise with other people this is what I feel an important trait for me to possess, so I go to the Gym, swimming pool and other social places and events this is even when I am studying so that I can obtain a perfect balance with studying and socialising so when I attend the library that's because If I want to have break I go and chat with people, this does not necessary mean I like to talk about work but more of social things, things about life and just enjoy the time out from the demanding work.

Almost every day of my studying life I meet a new friend that's because I enjoy listening to people also to speak with them and from that I can learn new ideals and way to improve myself and what I am capable along with enjoying their company, that they my consider while there speech is not impaired but listen to their language and try to develop my own, I see this as a major strength for a person who is not a native to the land and use English as a second language. When I have a chat with people of an older generation I tend to convey my thoughts and to make sure that I can learn from those experiences in life, as experience in life is more important than most things in life, with life and the experience in life logic is captured well and we can establish that logic is important to gain as well as education. I learned in my life to listen to other people opinion even if it's wrong, but after they finish I can explain my opinion on that topic but with evidence not just words if I can.

One of the thing that I try to hide is that I read and write with and I feel that I have many problems with my essays, the language is somewhat of a barrier for me but I feel that through ,more exposure in class and the world of English I will overcome this problem and it will be a shadow of the past, I truly hope that I can overcome this challenge before i commence my dissertation that's because English is my second language. So I try to avoid writing because the grammars mistakes that i tend to make and this has become somewhat a common theme, this is also concluded as well the sentences structure. For this purpose every time I write an essay I reread many times and rewrite as many times to at least perfect the writing skill. After that I started to write even if I have some mistakes and also I went to many English classes to develop my skills, also I am trying to set with my friends to teach me how to write properly and in the right way.

Computer skills, in the beginning of this course I realised that I have to learn a widely about the computer programs, so I started to take classes at the graduate school as well I went on the internet for some websites that teach you how to use those programs. Some of those programs for example the SPSS, NVIvo, adobe Photoshop and others that I already use because of this course and to develop my own skills on the computer.

I have other issues that i would like to overcome, first issue i would like to discuss with you is that i have problem with my language. Before i go into detail i would like to express my reasons for being disadvantaged in this particular area, i have come from a country whose origin speaks a language which is non native to the United Kingdom, it is the language of Arabic, which is a language which is read in poetry. Having this sort as a language as a mother tongue it is difficult to adapt into a language which is completely different. The language in itself is complicated as it has both traditional and classical in which we are taught both in school at different levels. One thing i did learn in my native land was that language is a skill that i would carry with me through life and utilise this skills in different times of life and at work if it is required.

English is a language which i have felt difficult to grasp when i came to the United Kingdom, i was told by my tutors in my native land that to succeed in English go to England, the irony of a man who has never been to a foreign country yet but so true if you want to learn the language then go to the heart of where it was established.

My language skills, are weak when comparing it to those others in the my class this may be seen as a disadvantage or some might see it as an advantage. The reason why i consider this as a disadvantage is that when trying to understand what the tutor is explaining, it can take up to a few times for me to personally understand what they have said and what i need to understand or interpretation. It may also be considered as an advantage as i could learn the language without incorporating slang into my language and learning the language as it should.

Socialisation is something that i think is very important. Me socialising in and out of class will help me improve my English as a whole, the more is expose myself to people who speak the language i could take great advantage of this and improve my language and learn to improve myself in confidence.

I feel that it is important for me to improve my language as i wish to take on a PhD in my specific area if by this point I have improved my English both written and spoken i will be comfortable in doing my PhD. My decision to go to The University of Nottingham and my experience there has been a profound impact and unquestionably lasting influence. These are experiences and memories that will always be with me. Through putting myself in new situations and new surroundings I was able to learn a great deal about myself and the world as a whole, through an assortment of challenges - academic, social, and emotional.

By choosing to attend The University of my choice I was able to immerse myself in wide mix of academic, social and cultural opportunities that would not have been possible if I had stayed at my home institution. There was never a shortage of things to do in my class which is a vibrant and entertaining group of people in its own right.

The best thing about my time and my current time, though, was the lasting friendships that I discovered and the wide array of people both British and international just like me that I was able to meet, both as a flat mate and a fellow student. These relationships allowed me to experience other cultures outside of my own, and grow my awareness and sense of the world at large.

To leave one's comfort zone and study in a foreign university can be a daunting experience. The University of Nottingham has not only made the transition comfortable, but enjoyable to say the very least. Studying abroad at The University has been an incredible experience and one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have become more culturally aware of the world around me, but most importantly I have learned a great deal about myself.

I came to The University in an effort to gain a different cultural perspective, academically and socially, but I received so much more than I anticipated. The University competes with some of the most elite universities in the United Kingdom and the education you receive whilst here is indispensable. Furthermore, studying at The University allowed me the incredible opportunity to meet people from all over the world, not to mention that are just about the friendliest people around. There has never been a dull moment. Probably the most difficult cultural and academic adjustments for me were in my first day of class which was nerve racking. As I have been in many other places, I was the in my Department's first international student.

Section 2:

The E- Prime program, in the beginning of this course I don't know really how to use the E-prime program an even how to design an experiment in my own area as i found it to be somewhat of a struggle understanding the concept of the programme and then using my ideas to implement it into my area of expertise so that the programme can make some sense of my area if not better than what i can. I started to work with one of the PHD students who is working on the "bilinguals text processing" in cognitive area. In the beginning he showed me how to work on the E-prime and how to design within this program, not only that but we started with his experiment which is designed to see the different between native speakers and non- native speaker, this was by showing them a task to read and even some images of colours and in the same time we where using the Eye-tracker to see the differences in the way they read. In this experiment participants have to choose the colours in different order by using the computer screen and the mouse to choose the colours. Also, to see can participants who are not native speaker can see the differences in the task if we change the words slightly, as well how they reacts on those tasks and even to see the reaction time for both groups. In the beginning we pilot study this experiment once on me because I am an international student, and the other time on a native speaker and we have seen the differences between both of native and non-native speakers reading techniques and to discover if the experiment work properly the way we expect.

Then we started to look for participants to start collecting the data and see the results of the experiment. After a couple of weeks we have collected our data on the E-prime program then the experiment starts to analyse this data that we already collected. At this point I started to learn how to use the SPSS program, which I have never use and he is explaining how to use the ANOVA and multiple ANOVA. As well how to use the Eye-tracker and how to look for the different techniques that people use while they are reading.

The purpose of the study to see if workers who work in air craft crew read the manual and do what is written in it or they have to see the picture manual to learn. In this time while I am working on my experiment, I started working with another PHD student she is collecting here survey data, and she need some help to collect here data. In that time I helped here by looking for participants, as well she is explaining why she is doing this study about health and diseases, and looking for people opinion about the disease and the cure for it, and what they think the side effect is going to be.

In that time I started to design my own experiment which is about driving and in the beginning of this period I start to struggle with my experiment, that's because I don't know how to work on the pictures as well the size of the vehicles in the different positions of the pictures.

For example in the three different position such as near, intermediate and far, the sizes should be (3sm, 2sm,1sm respectively), also when I start to combining two vehicles in one picture I have to look for the size and the quality of the picture. To start doing that I started to learn how to use the Adobe Photoshop to design those images of the street and the vehicle, this was one of the newest programs that I have had learned how to use. Then after that, I start to work on the E-prime and I have found that those pictures are not fitting in the program that's because of the size of the pictures. For that, I looked in the internet for another program to decrease the pixel of the pictures to become 750x540 which the program requires for the images. Then started to put all the information in the experiment, but this time with my supervisor who taught me how to work on it properly, and give me many advices on how to work with this program, but the timing for the images to be shown is (250ms).

Then after that my supervisor decided to pilot study it to see if it's going to work as we expect. In that time many errors started to popup, so we start to solve those errors. So as a start we need 20 participants' to see if the experiment is going to give us the expected result.

In that period I struggled a lot to find those participants', that's because I am not offering them money, so I looked for my friends at Nottingham University who have at least two years of driving experience to participate in my study. As well if they have time to come to the lab, that's because the experiment was based in the lab. At that time I am mostly collect my data so I will see if it's given the results that's expected and if I will continue or to add more changes on the experiment to reach the expected result of the study. In this stage I am going to analyse my data from the pilot study on the SPSS program, as well to see what's the output of these results.

At the first part of the analysis of my experiment I used the A 3X2X2 mixed repeated measures analysis. In that part the result showed a significant output, but when I used the same analysis for the second part of the study it does not work. For that I have to look for another analysis, so I used the ANOVAs for the second part.
