Homeschooling is the education of children at home, which are tutored by parents, rather than in formal places, such as conventional school. Parents can provide the teenager a better learning environment as an alternative to a conventional school. Besides, homeschooling is an education which is specially designed for the teenager as well as their parents. It is very convenient for those parents who live in rural places or temporarily abroad to provide their children a good learning environment. In homeschooling, the style of learning is different from the style of conventional school. There is no fixed classroom, no fixed schedules, no fixed textbooks, and no fixed school teachers. Parents will teach their own children. This creates opportunity for the parents to have one-to-one interaction with the teenager.(Benefits To Homeschooling",2008). They also can choose a certain homeschooling curriculum which they think that are suitable for the teenager. In this way, parents can educate and control their children on their own way without the influence of a conventional "school system". Parents also can make sure the teenagers have healthy mental, physical and emotional development by involving in their study. They will not be forced to follow the same way as the other students in a conventional school.

In United States, homeschooling is recognized as a legal educational system. Homeschooling has rules and regulations to regulate its own system. There are over two million students which are homeschooled. Parents prefer to take up their own responsibility to educate their own children. These are the reasons that homeschooling becomes popular in most country nowadays.

Homeschooling has its own advantages and disadvantages. Some people support it while some people question the reliability of it. Many teenagers think that homeschooling is better for them while others think that an conventional school is better. It is difficult to decide which schooling system is ideal, as both sides have their own reasonable arguments.

The question that needs to be researched is "Does homeschooling advantage the average teenagers?" Homeschooling indeed brings advantages to the teenagers because they will have better performance in their academics, can spend more time with their parents and can have better social adjustment.

Therefore, this report will centre on the advantages that homeschooling bring to the teenagers. The research will focus on the countries which practice homeschooling.

First argument

Teenager will have better performance in their academics.

Many people claim that teenagers cannot perform well in their academics because homeschooling lacks of qualified educators and strict rules which can control the teenagers. Those qualified educators have teaching certificates which show that they have passed their examinations and have the qualification to teach. They have teaching experience and instructional skills. Without them, the people claim that the teenagers will be unable to gain the knowledge thoroughly. This is because parents do not have such ability to teach the teenagers and they simply put the teenager inside a room with books and computer. However, this argument is weak. Statistics has shown that homeschooler have better performance in their academics although it is lacking of qualified educators. They can score very well on the tests for almost all subjects. Without any teaching certificates, parents also have the ability to teach them by having their own ways. There is not necessary to possess a certificate. Parents proceed at the teenager's pace and are more aware of the student's abilities because the intelligence level of every teenager is different. Parents can know the strength and weaknesses of their academic performance. Thus, they can choose their own teaching styles in ways that are most conducive to the teenager productivity. Studies have shown that teenagers whose parents are directly involved in their study have better performance in their academics. Parents can totally control their studies. In homeschooling, there are assignments, self-paced assessments, multimedia activities, video and audio exercise. ("Calvert Virtual Academy Introduces Next Generation in Homeschooling", 2010) Teenagers also can improve themselves through these sufficient studying materials.

Statistic shows that whether the parents have graduated from college or have not graduated from high school, the average test score of homeschoolers are still around 82%. This concludes that even the parents have not finished high school education, they still can teach their children at home. (Wile, 1999)

Besides, without strict rules, teenager will have a better and more relax learning style. (Pandey, 2010). There are no strict rules to supervise their homework. Without strict rules, they can do their homework and learn things at their own comfortable pace. Hence, they will not feel pressured to learn something or complete particular homework by a due date. They do not need to face the pressure from their friends whenever their classmates have better academic performance. Without strict rules controlling them, they are more flexible in managing their time. They can have enough time to conduct their hobby and interest in music classes, swimming classes, painting classes and gardening classes. This enables the teenager to discover their own talents and find out what they are interested in. By having a relaxed learning style, they will have better physical and mental development. Thus, they will perform better in their academics. Unlike the school's student, they need to complete their homework by a certain date as they are afraid of being punished. This triggers a sense of tension for the teenager. They will feel more stressed. This tension may affect their performance in academics.

Apart from that, there is less negative peer influence in homeschooling. ("Benefits to Homeschooling", 2008). Nowadays, teenagers are easily exposed to negative influences from peers, such as smoking, drugs and violence. These peers will influence the teenager to conduct unethical activities. Undoubtedly, this will surely affect their academic performance. In homeschooling, they will not face such problems and thus, they can pay more concentration in their studies. Homeschooling decreases the negative peer pressure and enable the teenager to have a normal and healthy development at their own pace. This indeed will enable the homeschooling teenagers to study in a more relaxed way. Thus, they can have better performance in their academics.
