About Company

Urban global is a big company which has a number of offices located in many key countries. The office of urban global is located at Springhill in Brisbane. The key people of this company supports business and marketing activities. The assorted operations contain of over ten companies, forty greatest brands and through 1000 websites.

The business is organized into three different enterprise segments.

  • Urban E-learning: it is recognized as E-Learning globally. It is one of the largest Registered Training organization (RTO) in Australia. The main focus of this is to develop, design and deliver training programs and solutions to industries to extend their enterprise output, procedures, effectiveness and financial endeavor in people to enhance performance. The main areas are:

  • Urban Executive: it is partition of urban global. It is a firm supplying focused solutions for different types of training, recruitment and executive coaching. They bid a greatly targeted and personalized assortment of services, supported throughout their teams’, considerable and varied background in executive explore.
  • Urban Healthcare: urban Healthcare works with customers to design, consign and create health centres of excellence for wellbeing services for future patients. They offer technical knowledge to perform, reorganize and compose health delivery excellence. The project and designs are a condemning portion of bringing ahead many health care to communities throughout the world.

About project

The project at Urban Global involves automating the complete process and operations of the hospital at PNG using popular open source integrated hospital management system open clinic GA. The main aim is to make an easy interface that is low text and icon based for use in everyday hospital activities and biometric authentication of fingerprint scanning.

Main areas within project scope to be covered are Biometric, DB Interface, Connectivity Barcode and testing

  1. Background

Medical information management system has evolved over the years from standalone software packages to client-server systems ranging from the early 1990's now the medical information management system has graduated to utilizing open source solutions custom made for Hospital information management system created by software engineers along with physicians who have high level IT skills.

The project at Urban Global is to customize open clinic interface to make it more user friendly. Low text and icon based interface that uses biometric scanning for identifying patients and records all essential patient information in the database. Our Project group's task is to identify and modify the existing Open clinic GA which is open source software hence it requires no permissions or access rights apart from programming skills by the IT department. For this project the team comprising of four members will have the tasks allocated for- Biometric, Database, Interface, and Connectivity

1.2 Objectives

Main objectives are to understand the existing system thoroughly and chart out the mapping of user roles such as doctor, nurse etc. Identifying a best fit Biometric device and code to connect it to the system for sending and receiving of fingerprint by recording and identification. Connectivity of database to the front end interface and modifying the Interface to suit client's requirements.

  2. Documentation and user manuals for open clinic which contain information about hospital structure and hospital related tasks that can be done via open clinic. The human resource management security of the system is enforced by access granted to authorize users only. User profiles and personal profiles have specification about various tasks only mapped to certain roles/user profiles. There are numerous areas that the open clinic documentation addresses namely

  3. Going through the open clinic system involves clicking on each option and recording the applications available to each user profile. Screenshots taken and information converted into excel sheet defining options available for every user profile login setting.
  4. For understanding the system and solving the business problem of changing the Interface we have to go through documentation and blogs online to get in depth understanding

Problems faced during information gathering are that the settings and administrator/super user menu controls are not given in the manuals and technical documentation. Open clinic is an open source web application that can be customized as per client requirement. Our client at urban global has given the task of modifying and replacing the interface which can only be achieved when we understand the dependencies. Hence there is a missing information gap where we can find the interconnectivity among various set of tables.

To solve that we have

  1. Installed open clinic locally on the system.
  2. Installed MySQL workbench.
  3. Connected to server using putty/FileZilla (FTP Client) to understand the code.
  4. Installed Eclipse IDE.

We understood it and analyzed it according to our knowledge and breakdown it in the following storyboard.

There are few thing with the existing interface which are of no use. So we are analyzing that and will remove those things to give it a new look and which will be easy to understand and use by users.

  1. Key Variables

The main variables in our project are the time factor and technology compatability factor. The system of openclinic ga needs to be understood thoroughly for creating an interface which will replace the existing interface. Another variable is the database connectivity and relationship among various tables. Since it is in a hospital context , any error in storing and retrieving records can create faulty reports and misleading forms. The technology used today for responsive websites and mobile sites/apps is HTML5.

In this project the interconnectivity of HTML5 and jsp has to be replicated for the new system. None of the project members have handled such a task before hence knowledge and expertise is another variable factor for this project. The Time can be measured in terms of deliverables per fortnight. The first fortnight was devoted to planning and understanding the various components of the project. The second fortnight is centered on research for the best fit device and finger print scanner reader. These devices must be able to communicate with a windows pc that is the first point of contact for the patient.
