Case Study Principles Of Management Education Essay

Published:

Introduction: Learning is a process. Learn mean know something newly. It may acquire knowledge, behaviour and skill. Human learning may occur as part of education or personal development. Learning styles are a way to help improve personal quality and skills. This differs man to man. There are many learning styles; visual, logical, verbal etc. There are some models and styles in learning like as 'TRAP' model 'VAK' model and there are some known figures who presented their view for learning. As an example Kolb's learning cycle.

Kolb's learning cycle: Kolb presented the following learning cycle in 1984 which is called Kolb's learning cycle. Kolb's experiential learning theory are today well known to academics, teachers, students, managers, and trainers and as well as others. Successively, Kolb's learning styles models and Fundamental concepts towards our understanding and explaining human learning behaviour and towards helping others to learn also. He described learning system in two levels- a four stage cycle and four-type definition of learning styles.

Four stage cycles is as below:

Concrete experience(doing or having an experience or CE)

Reflective observation (reviewing or reflecting on the experience or RO)

Abstract conceptualisation(concluding or learning from the experience or AC)

Active experimentation (planning or trying out what anyone has learned or AE)

And these four styles are the cycle and that is as below:

Four-type definition of learning styles, (each representing the combination of two preferred styles from Kolb's style, it is like a two-by-two combination, according mathematical matrix rules of the four-stage cycle styles, as presented below), for which Kolb used the terms:

Converging (AC/AE)

Accommodating (CE/AE)

Assimilating (AC/RO)

Diverging (CE/RO)

Abstract conceptualisation (AC)

Concrete experience (CE)

Active experimentation (AE)

Converging (AC/AE)

Accommodating (CE/AE)

Reflective observation (RO)

Assimilating(AC/RO)

Diverging (CE/RO)We also can represent it as follows;

(Class lecture and course materials)

Active experimental - abstract conceptualisation

Active experimental - Concrete experience

Reflective observation - Concrete experience

Reflective observation - Concrete experience

But this table can be represent in many way just we have to distribute Diverging (CE/RO) Assimilating (AC/RO), Assimilating (AC/RO) and Accommodating (CE/AE) in different way. And anyone can do that and explain in his own way.

Now we will have a look how these systems adaptable brain or people work or perform in practically.

Converging (doing and thinking - AC/AE) - this is a practical and technology based learning system. People with converging learning style tries to solve any problem using their learning and tries to find solve any practical issue. They like technical chores and their concern about people and inter personal aspects is less. They are best at finding

Practical uses of theories and issues. They are most attracted to technical tasks and problems apart from social and interpersonal issues. They like to do experiment with new problems and issues.

Accommodating (doing and feeling - CE/AE) - The people who are with Accommodating learning style, they are very active and relies on suspecting rather than logical. They use analytical theories and practical approach to do any task. They prefer new challenges and they are much planned. People with an Accommodating learning style prefer to work in teams to complete tasks. They set targets and actively work in the field trying different ways to achieve an objective.

Assimilating (watching and thinking - AC/RO) - The meaning of assimilating is absorbing. Assimilating learning preference is for a concise, logical approach. Their Ideas and concepts are more important than people. They need a good clear explanation rather than practical opportunity. They excel at understanding wide-ranging information and organising it a clear logical format. They always prefer to gather ideas knowledge. People with this style are more attracted to logically sound theories than approaches based on practical value. They are very important for effectiveness in information and scientific careers. People with this style prefer readings, lectures, exploring analytical models, and having time to think things thoroughly.

Diverging (feeling and watching - CE/RO) - People with this style are able to look at things from different perspectives. They are very sensitive. They prefer to watch rather than do, tending to gather information and use imagination to solve any problem. They are good at viewing concrete situations several different viewpoints. This is called 'Diverging' style because these people perform better, in such situations that require ideas-generation, for example, brainstorming. They are interested in people, tend to be imaginative and emotional, and tend to be strong in the arts. People with the Diverging style prefer to work in groups, to listen with an open mind and to receive personal feedback.

Different learning styles are appropriate in different stage: Human beings are always learning. In different age and stage people learn differently. When we were in school we learned in one way but after that our learning system has changed. And there are some people who learn faster than the other in his same age and stage. So it differ age, stage, situation. There are some people who learn only by listening. This called auditory learner. These people they attend any class (student) or seminar or meeting any where they learn best by listening. They are very sensitive to outside noise.

There are some people who learn from ocular. They are called visual learner. Basically they learn from variety of colour and image or written information. They like to read instructions and imagine about any subjects or topic. They are also be more sensitive to visual distraction.

There is another learning style named kinaesthetic learning style in VAK model. This is actually physical learning style. It is like when someone moving, walking, his/her sense is learning. These learners learn from various movements. When they are on any movement they use to make notes. When they read something they scan it first and then they focus on it.

So human being, they start learning when they are kids. And that time they learn from listening and watching. But after a certain period they learn to use their brain. They learn how to talk how to walk. Then they go to school they start their academic learning. Someone learn by studying, mean memorising. Someone learn from understanding. Briefly, any student, he attend the classes and concentrate lectures and he does not need to study more to catch the topic. But on the other hand there is someone who needs to study more than concentrating the lectures. At last when they enter their job there is another situation. Someone can guess what he has to do or not. Someone needs to explain everything point to point. But it depends how he learns.

My learning style: I can remember something a long time as I have learned it practical. If I do not understand something I try all my best to learn it. But sometimes I cannot. If I can have a look practically any theory, I can remember or apply, Especially Scientific terms. But sometimes when I am studying something I do guess and try to compare with any practical events. I think when I do it; I can capture it very quickly. For an example when I was studying in secondary level, there were a scientific theory name 'principle of Archimedes' my teacher tried his all best to make it clear to me but he failed. So he shown me this in laboratory how it does work and what was the principle. Still today I can remember this theory and I can explain this. Sometimes I when I am in a new stage, I try to adjust myself with that situation and compare with some previous situation to find out the similarities. Sometimes it happens but sometimes my ideas go wrong.

On the other hand I have seen some people who can guess something, they can understand anything instantly. But I cannot do the same thing. There is someone who can imagine viewing any problems, topic, or task but I can't do the same thing. When I think something I find out some critical ideas where as some easy ideas could be the best solution. I always think something which is that solution what is effective but not instant solution means this could be use later but it is a possible solution of that problem. So I think I have to change this. Another thing when I learn something from someone I can't catch everything instantly, when I review that then I can understand that. But I think I am better, when I teach something others. And I am reflector sometimes. It is because when I tech something other fellow that time I try to remember my lecturers and their style. Finally, I think I have to develop my guessing power, find out some possible easy solution.
