Authoritative And Authoritarian Parenting Practices And Social Education Essay

Published:

This research report has been chosen because it manages to support the hypothesis of my research which is "Authoritative parenting style enhances the academic performance among adolescents". In this research report, the sample of the study is the students in China. Some people argue the impacts of authoritative parenting style might vary according to countries with different cultures and beliefs. Thus, it is important to have the information from the different regions to be compared.

The result of this research report supports my hypothesis. These results suggested that children who had authoritative parents tended to adjust well both socially and academically in the school. However, children of authoritarian parents tended to have problems in social adjustment and academic performance in the school (Dong, X., & Zhou, H., 1997). Authoritative parents are more supportive, tolerant, and warm which will enhance the positive feeling of security and confidence among children towards the world. This may lead to child high academic motivation and achievement (Dong, X., & Zhou, H., 1997).

Title: Parenting Practices and School Dropout: A longitudinal Study

Reason(s): This research report has been selected because it manages to hold up the topic of my research which is the relationship between authoritative parenting style and the school performance among adolescents. According to this research report, students from authoritative family are unlikely to drop out from school if compared to the students from neglectful family. From the research report, students who perceived their parents as authoritative at age 14 were more likely to graduate from upper secondary school (Adalbjamardottir & Blondal, 2004).

Furthermore, the result of this research report also supports my hypothesis which is "Authoritative parenting style enhances the academic performance among adolescents". The result of the research indicates that adolescents who at age 14 characterized their parents as authoritative showed generally better academic achievement when they were 15, compared to adolescents who characterized their parents as non-authoritative (Adalbjamardottir & Blondal, 2004).

Hence, this research report is beneficial in supporting my study area and also the hypothesis for my research.

Title: Relationship between Self Concepts, Motivation and Parenting Styles Effected Students Achievements

Reasons(s): This research report has been chosen because it is done by the local professors. Thus, the sample their study will be the adolescents in Malaysia. The information is very helpful because the sample my study will also be local teenagers. In this research report, authoritative parenting style has been described as firm yet loving and consistent. Authoritative parents love to explain the reasons of every rule that is made. They also have high expectations on their children but they are always helping and supporting them (Azizi Yahaya, Kamaliah Nordin., n.d.).

The outcome of this research report supports the hypothesis of my research which is "Authoritative parenting style enhances the academic performance among adolescents". The result shows that parents who practiced an authoritative parenting style, the percentage of their children to obtain an excellent result is the highest if compared to the parents who practiced permissive and authoritarian parenting style. Title: Effect of Socio-cultural Context and Parenting Style on Scholastic Achievement among Iranian Adolescents

The Netherlands and North-West University, South Africa

Reason(s): This research report has been selected because it supports the hypothesis of my research which is "Authoritative parenting style enhances the academic performance among adolescents". Before this research had been done, there is almost no data from Middle Eastern regarding the parenting style and its outcomes. The sample of this research is Iranian adolescents. Once again, this information is very important to me to compare the impacts of authoritative parenting style towards academic performance among teenagers from different countries.

The results of this research revealed that an authoritative attitude in parenting was positively associated with strong academic achievement whereas authoritarian and permissive parenting styles were negatively associated (Assadi, S., Zokaei, N., Kaviani, H., Mohammadi, M., Ghaeli, P., Gohari, M., et al., 2007).

Title: Influence of parenting styles on the adjustment and academic achievement of traditional college freshmen

Reason(s): This article has been chosen because it holds up the topic of my research which is the relationship between authoritative parenting style and the school performance among adolescents. Academic high-achieving students described their parents as understanding, approving, trusting, affectionate, encouraging achievement, and not overly strict in disciplining (Hickman, Gregory P, Bartholomae, Suzanne, McKenry, Patrick C, 2000).

According to the outcome of this research report, none of the models can exactly indicated that parenting styles influenced the adjustment and academic achievement of college freshmen. However, authoritative parenting was found to have a positive impact on academic adjustment (Hickman, Gregory P, Bartholomae, Suzanne, McKenry, Patrick C, 2000).

Although the result of this research report does not exactly support my hypothesis which is "Authoritative parenting style enhances the academic performance among adolescents", it holds up my idea where authoritative parenting style has positive effects onto academic adjustment among teenagers.
