My journey to graduate school has been a life long dream that I carried for many years. This journey began when I was living in Morocco; I remember spending a lot of time dreaming and pondering about the idea of graduate work in America in contribution to a country I valued greatly. I look forward to utilizing my experience in graduate school to contribute and develop my potential.
In addition, my success in political science and receiving a bachelor degree in political science at Colorado University has been a catalyst to pursue graduate studies. Then, my success in MBA program at Regis University has opened a good opportunity to pursue a future march to Doctorate program as a final step in this journey, but many questions filled my mind as what school I will choose for my doctorate degree. I also questioned what career I would pursue for my future degree. Finally, I realized that none of these questions would being answered until I took my first step and the first step began when I started to select schools and the programs that the universities offered as a challenge to a professional future and career.
However, why I choose Colorado Technical University? Specifically, what aspect of program will help me to achieve a professional career and educational goals? What skills, experiences and attributes will I bring to the program and how do I expect to be successful in a Doctorate program? What is the topic or issue that I wish to research in my Doctoral program? And what environment and resources are available to me to complete this research?
First, I select Colorado Technical University from the information that I found about the Doctoral program of this University. Primary, from the program offered by the school to students, from the previous graduate students that started their career in Colorado Technical University, from the description of the program and from the teachers that teach at Regis University and study at (CTU). But the secret that pushes me to take a decision and to choose Colorado Technical University is related to learning environment process that creates the leaders from 1960s to 2008 and the program that emphasizes a global goal by leading the students to a professional future.
Secondly, the program I choose is a Doctor of Management program that designed to encourage students to develop mind-set, action research and to practice practical projects. Also, I choose this program from the curriculum that provides a comprehensive examination of the management theory and practice from different perspectives. Afterward, this description of the program that I choose has a good challenge to a global and professional career.
Thirdly, I select the management program because I have the skills, experiences and the attributes that will help me to be successful in this program. For the skill, I managed my small business very well as a good source for my family to survive in the US. Then, for the experience, I use my teaching skills and experience to train and to teach others how to be leaders.
In addition, back to my own experience as a teacher in Morocco, I learned that teaching provides a wonderful opportunity to encourage students to engage their bodies, minds, and senses with the basic skills for learning and living. In global culture, a teacher compared to a prophet or a moral reformer because the spiritual information can be presented to students.
As a result, the instructors enlighten students with views about the world and human society that make teachers highly respected in my culture as well as in American society. American society appreciates pursuing education and subsequently changing people's lives. Thus, in teaching I have an intrinsic and an instrumental fulfillment. Also, my international experience will prove as an asset to such a diverse culture.
However, the contribution of the learning environment in Colorado Technical University will help me as a student to be successful in Doctorate program as the classes that I will take in this program. Therefore, the classes in Colorado Technical University designed to be online courses. Online courses are very challenging but with my knowledge and the experience that I get from my previous MBA program, I have a faith to challenge this mix environment and to be a leader.
As well, Colorado Technical University encourages students to create new ways of working in practical projects and teachers direct and guide students to demonstrate and explore their attitude about their program of study. In addition, everything they learn inside of this great University has a goal to a professional career by using different experiments that give students the courage to do so and to make them proud of themselves, and about the environment, that creates this strength.
Conversely, the reason that pushes me, as a student in MBA program to pursue a Doctorate degree is that, first is a dream to be a part of the academia and scholar. Second, the topic that I wish to research in my Doctorate program will concentrate on management system that we use in our business. From my overview, it is time to change this system by creating new systems more challenging and more productive than the one we use know. Two years ago, I started to scratch the cliché of my theory in management by investigating all variable that have an impact over the decision-making in our firm.
Consequently, from the previous overviews in management theory I build my theory as an engine that will use the management system as an application. Then, from this application, I can apply the safe system of management that will shape and change our management, and our reputation in business on general.
In the end, education alone might not make a person fortune or bring fame, but it gives something very personal and permanent. I have seen life without education and I see what I have now and I am blessed to have the ability to know, to reason and to learn from others. Education is something that travels with me where I go and no one can ever take that away from me. Education is not just a part of my journey and my dream, but it is a tool for living the dream. To complete this great goal in my life I choose Colorado Technical University as a challenge for my present and future professional career.
Turkish news nowadays carry vivid images which have become terrifyingly commonplace: the surface of the sea littered with dead sheep; a landfill explosion leading to a number of deaths; vendors offering radiation-contaminated tea for half-price; a little girl's death resulting from her fall through an open sewage manhole in her schoolyard; radioactive waste sold to unsuspecting scrap dealers; a twenty-year-old tanker breaking into pieces, spilling hundreds of tons of crude oil into the ocean and killing sea life all around.
The frequency with which these environmental disasters fill Turkish news broadcasts -- along with the obvious insensitivity of the authorities towards both environment and health issues -- prompted me to learn about ways to prevent these types of disasters. At the age of fifteen, I decided to focus my studies on environmental sciences in order to equip myself with the technical tools I would need to make a real contribution.
After earning a master's degree in environmental sciences, I completed a professional international management certificate program in order to gain a management perspective of the field. I then realized that, in order to effectively combine my technical knowledge and management skills, I needed to accumulate real-world experience. Specifically, working at a large company would allow me to develop insight into various industries, as well as an overarching vision of the international business arena.
I have now worked for nearly two years in the energy and environment group of Koc Holding, Turkey's first and biggest diversified conglomerate. As a project engineer, I am mainly responsible for our holding companies' environment and energy sector investments. This position has given me the opportunity to interact with businessmen from all over the world, thereby expanding my international perspective. Because of my outstanding work performance, I was chosen to attend various meetings with local and international governmental bodies such as OPIC, IFC, and the World Bank. It is highly unusual for a young associate to represent the company at such events, and my self-confidence -- as well as my management skills -- was further enhanced by that successful experience.
While working in various business lines, including the automotive industry, consumer durables, and the energy sector, I have realized that the root cause of many environmental problems is financial. I believe that many people in the environmental sector are so ignorant or insensitive that they will cheat customers to increase profits. Furthermore, businesses do not prioritize environmental investments; as a result, insufficient funds are allocated to adequately prevent problems. For instance, despite a population over eight million people, Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, still lacks a properly operating sewage system. In most of the areas of the city, waste water is discharged directly into the Bosphorus.
In the long term, I hope to help solve my country's problems by starting my own environmental-services business in Turkey. The company will serve both local and international customers by providing cost-effective, adaptable solutions ranging from waste management to safety management. In order to accomplish this goal, however, I must deepen my knowledge of the field. Despite my experience, I still lack some important knowledge and management skills
, especially in finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship. I am also aware that my knowledge of American environmental issues is insufficient. Since dealing with aspects of international business will be an integral part of my job as an entrepreneur, it is essential that I fill in these gaps.
The NAME School's MBA program is the perfect bridge from where I am to where I want to be. I am attracted by the inventiveness and uniqueness of its entrepreneurial and finance programs, and believe that I will increase my practical knowledge of entrepreneurship by interacting with my classmates. I value the fact that at NAME entrepreneurial education does not stop at the classroom, but rather continues through internships and extracurricular activities. I feel that a business school for entrepreneurs should balance a dose of theory with real-world application, and NAME's curriculum and hands-on experiences through associations, internships, and the management field study provide such balance.
I am also drawn to NAME because of the school's emphasis on teamwork and technology, reflected by such exciting courses and programs as High Technology Entrepreneurship, International Finance, 12-week field application projects, and the global immersion program directed to teach global thinking and global action. Additionally, the school's profusion of student groups and its flexible entrepreneurial program -- with electives from 200 courses -- will allow me to tailor my course of study directly to my career interests. It is precisely this flexibility that I plan to draw on while at NAME and beyond, by taking advantage of (and contributing to) the school's strong international alumni network.
Above all, a NAME MBA will help me strengthen both the finance knowledge and the entrepreneurial skills necessary to secure a position as an environmental specialist in a multinational American-based firm. Such a position, in turn, will prepare me to accomplish my long-term ambition of building my own company. By developing and maximizing the technical knowledge and managerial skills I have already accumulated, NAME will allow me to ultimately make a concrete and substantial contribution to Turkey's environment.
Beginning the age of 15, I've always dreamed of pursuing my passion for the arts and getting my formal education at the _________. However, financial problems have kept me from attending the school, and for a time, I chose another path, taking up a web design degree from another school. I was never able to finish my degree from this school, and now I have decided to apply for a slot at the one institution that I know will be highly instrumental to my future success in my chosen field.
My commitment to my craft and my future career goals make me a good candidate for the __________. I plan to work in a web design company after finishing my degree and, hopefully, manage my own business one day. The obstacles that I have gone through have given me the resilience to rise above anything, and not to let poverty discourage me from my aspirations. Through my time management skills, I know I will be able to attend classes, activities, and meetings on time. Also, I will make sure that I have something to contribute to the discussions by being prepared and by studying and researching on what is required. With the standard of excellence that the institute is renowned for, I hope to be able to make my own contribution, through conscious effort and utmost dedication.
I believe that I have the qualities to be a good researcher and teacher. I am a creative person and often think in a contemplative way about various issues of practical importance. Being able to identify patterns and relationships that are not obvious to others is perhaps my greatest strength. This will prove very valuable because an integral part of being a researcher and teacher is to perceive the balance between theory and practice, analytical rigor and intuition. My communication skills are good and I like expressing ideas and concepts both in oral and written form - an ideal platform for the dissemination of knowledge in my chosen field of specialization.
The Krannert Graduate School of Management is one of the best schools of management in the world with a strong orientation towards research. The diversity of research interests in the operations management group is of particular interest to me. I would like to reiterate that I possess the background, the ability and the motivation to make a significant contribution to Operations Management. I hope you will take a favorable decision regarding my admission to the Ph.D. program and I look forward to joining the Krannert Graduate School of Management and Purdue University.
During my graduate studies I aim to equip myself with some advanced tools and develop my analytical and research capabilities. I want to get an excellent command over econometrics to be able to confront stochastic statistical data with exact models of economic theories and also for empirical verification of other models, which might otherwise be set in a partial equilibrium framework. I expect to emerge as an economic engineer and an expert in model building.Econometrics per se, also interests me as a subject of economics and I might like to research in econometric methodology. I want to be an academic economist. I have cleared the National Eligibility test conducted by the University Grants Commission of India, which makes me eligible to teach an undergraduate course in economics in any Indian university.
I want to study at UCLA, as it emphasizes on the rigor and analytical tools that are necessary for academic research. I have well-developed analytical and mathematical skills and I want to exploit these skills to the greatest extent. I feel the help and guidance that can be provided to me by the distinguished faculty of your university will be invaluable. I am sure if I am given the opportunity to study at your university that attracts some of the best students from all over the world, it will provide an environment competitive enough to bring out the best in me.
