Thanksgiving Day is distinguished on the 4th Thursday in November at this time. Since 1863 it has been an yearly tradition in the UHYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States"S. Thanksgiving was traditionally a religious inspection to give thanks to God.
People thought that the first Thanksgiving Day was distinguished to give thanks to God for serving the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony live their first nasty winter in New England. The first Thanksgiving feast lasted three days as long as sufficient food for 53 pilgrims and 90 Native Americans. There were fowl, venison, fish, lobster, clams, berries, fruit, pumpkin, and squash in the feast. William Bradford's make a note of that, "besides waterfowl, there was great store of wild turkeys, of which they took many," probably gave rise to the American habit of eating turkey at Thanksgiving. [ Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day]
Thanks giving Day provides an opportunity for communities of faith to gather to acknowledge God as the source of the goodness and grace we experience. The texts for the day focus on themes of gratitude, abundance, and generosity and call us to create a lifestyle of thinking cantered on God rather than on material possessions or national pride. We are challenged to live in gratitude for the abundance freely bestowed upon us, but we also challenged to cultivate generosity as the expression of our thanks to God for all God's gift. Now I will describe about significance of these two festivals.
4.1. Significance of Ati-Atihan festival:
The Ati-atihan is assumed in the honour of the Sto. Niño, much like the Sinulog festival (which is being held simultaneously in Cebu) and the Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo (which will be held next weekend). It's a week-long affair, finishing on the third Sunday of January. Though Kalibo is the main place of the festival, other towns also have their own ati-atihan festivity Boracay on the second Sunday, and the city of Itbajay on the fourth Sunday. Maybe it's because I didn't stay long enough or explored the display route, but this festival is pretty toned down compared to the festivals I've seen last year. The strange costumes were definitely present: there were people clothed up as eagles, dressed up as horses and clothed in… pink. [Nina, S(2009). Ati-Atihan Festival]
4.2. Significance of Thanksgiving day:
however thanksgiving originated in America, but it has extend its wings to other continents of the planet also.
