Many people die every year in the United States; gun homicide is the leading in death rates. The countries lax rules for gun control have caused a tragic statistical boost in violence. Constant gun violence has diminished the quality of our lives into fear. Something needs to be done to end or lower gun violence. Firearms are being used irresponsibly and need to be out of certain individuals reach. The government must order strict, detailed, and thorough background checks for those individuals wishing to obtain firearms. Everyday lives must stop being lived in continual fear.
In a single year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gun fire in the United States (Mill 27). Gun violence becomes increasingly worse each year as society continues to change. More guns lead to more violence. Members of today's society are becoming more tolerant and open to having guns in their lives. With this increase in acceptance for guns also cause an increase in crime. Forty-seven percent of all guns on the street are known to be illegal (Mill 66). Gun control is becoming more of a necessity everyday as crime and the numbers of people who own guns continue to increase. Some seek broad policy charges such as prohibiting police handgun ownership or the registration of all firearm owners (Mill 74). One of the most concerning factors of gun control is the violence and homicide rate. Without increased gun control homicides continue to increase. The Number of homicides committed involving a firearm have increased one hundred and seventy three percent from 1985 to 1993 (Mill 13). Gun control is the only affective way to decrease crime in the United States.
The United States leads the world with 5,285 people killed by firearms each year. If you were to add up the number of people killed by firearms in France, Great Britain, Japan, Germany, and Canada it would still be considerably less than the United States alone. Every three hours one child is killed due to the irresponsible persons having possession of these firearms (Safran 23). American kids are at a higher risk to be involved in gun violence than in any other country. In 1998, eight percent of all students in junior and senior high school missed at least one school day because of being traumatized by violence (Safran 12). Children and teens in the United States are in fear because of the rapid statistical boost in violence. Between 1994 and 1999 there were 220 violent school events resulting in 253 deaths, 74.5 percent of these violent interactions included a firearm (Safram 45). It's not right for children and teens to have to suffer from traumatizing acts in schools or which are affiliated or inflicted from schools.
America is loosing too many children due to gun violence in society. The fear of firearms causes self-inflicting trauma to one mind. In 2001, about ninety thousand children and teens in America were killed by gunfire (O'Neil). More teens die every year from gun homicides. Gun homicides are more common than cancer, pneumonia, asthma, and HIV deaths combined every year (O'N eil). Eighty Americans die each day as a result to irresponsible people who have a firearm in there possession. The number of homicides with a firearm committed annually with a firearm increased 173% from1985 to 1993(O'Neil). Something needs to be done to prevent this increasing rate in gun violence. The government and members of society must take action in such a fertile time in our society. Stop sitting around and do something before family members becomes a statistic.
Gun control has become a threaten subject in the last few years. By adopting shall-issue laws, states reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5% and aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3% (Tinsley). If those states that did not permit concealed handguns in 1992 had permitted them back then, citizens might have been spared approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and 12,000 robberies (Tinsley). Weapons that are concealed keep criminals uncertain as to whether a potential victim will be able to defend himself without using firearm affiliated force. It makes criminals think twice about there actions on a regular basis in everyday lives. President Clinton played up his proposed expansion of the 1994 Brady Law, which by making it harder for men convicted of domestic violence to obtain guns is designed to reduce crime against women. More than 300,000 concealed- handgun licenses were issued between October 1, 1987 and December 31, 1945, but only five violent crimes involving permitted pistols were committed in this period of time (Tinsley). The number of accidental hand-gun deaths has recently dropped the last five years.
Democrats constantly stress on the gun control factor. Crime shall reduce if more of the illegal firearms in society are restricted by those individuals who are responsible in this matter. During the 1960s and 1970s the robbery rate in the United States increased six fold, and the murder rate doubled; the rate of handgun ownership nearly doubled in that period as well (James 10). Handguns and criminal violence grew together apace, and national opinion leaders did not fail to remark on that coincidence (James 26). Members of the National Rifle Association can produce blizzards of angry calls to the Capital virtually overnight; House members have been going public on a regular basis. There often looking to find justice in this matter. Gun control laws don't work the work perversely. What is determined to happen counter acts to what is expected.
While legitimate users of firearms encounter intense regulations, and bureaucratic control, markets easily adapt to whatever difficulties a free society throws in their way. Thanks to the seemingly never-ending war on drugs and long experience attempting to suppress prostitution and pornography, we know a great deal about how illicit markets function and how costly the public attempts to control them (James). Its important that we make use of this experience and hold close grips on gun control. The thousands of gun-control laws in the United States are of two general types, the older kind which is to regulate how, where, and by whom firearms could be carried. recent laws make it more costly to buy, sell, or use firearms by imposing fees, special taxes, or surtaxes on them. The Brady Bill is of both types: it has background check provision; it also includes a five day waiting period for a timed tax in purchasing a firearm. It's agreed that gun-control laws have an effect on the distribution of firearms.
The two most significant federal statutes in controlling firearms in the people's population are the National Firearms Act of 1934, and the Gun Control Act of 1968. The 1934 Act established strict registration requirements and a transfer tax on machine guns and short-barreled long guns. The 1968 Act prohibits mail-order sales and the sales of firearms, limits access to assault weapons, and sets penalties and licensing requirements for dealers, manufactures and dealers. Prior to 1987, almost every state in America either prohibited the carrying of concealed handguns or permitted concealed-carry under a licensing system that granted government officials broad power over the decision to grant a permit for firearms (James). The main feature of the new concealed-carry laws is that the government must grant the permit as soon as any citizen can satisfy objective licensing criteria factors. These laws will cause society's gun statistic rates to drastically decrease.
The government and society must work together to prohibit the right to purchase or obtain firearms in ones hands. The violence in our country must stop. Citizens don't deserve to live their lives in continual fear. Gun control must be taken more seriously. Society doesn't realize how differently our lives would be lived if firearm possession would be reduced. Too many lives are lost each year due to the irresponsible acts of those who obtain firearms. Violence in the United States will never stop, if gun control is inflicted the violence rates would drop drastically. Don't wait until its too late; it's not right for yourself, or someone you know to be another statistic in gun violence.
