Economies globally have been maintaining focus on the utilization of sustainable and alternative energy resources so as to reduce the excessive exploitation of conventional energy sources. Moreover this step has been taken for reducing the costs associated with relevant activities and also for minimizing the negative impacts witnessed on the environment. The Emirati government has initiated its efforts for promoting and encouraging the use of green practices for ensuring the conservation of the resources. From a business perspective, the scope for the solar water heaters in the UAE is highly profitable mainly due to the fact that the region has abundant sunshine all year round. The Dubai Government has also initiated a regulation wherein the Dubai Municipality would not approve any building licenses after 4th March, 2012 unless the building plan is equipped with a provision for implementing solar water heaters. This is the standard criterion that is being levied on all the new constructions and building developments which are being undertaken in the region. In keeping with the expected increase in the utilization of solar based energy sources, the prospective of establishing a solar water heating project has high commercial feasibility (Dubai: Solar heaters must in all new buildings, 2011).

Selection criteria:

The reduction in the energy consumption along with the reduction in the emissions have provided solar water heaters as a viable commercial tool especially in a region like the UAE where the conservation of resources has assumed utmost national attention among the people. These concerns are not only restricted to the UAE, but they have global implications also (Todorova, 2009).

The reason for selecting the solar water heaters is due to the convenient feasibility of implementing the system, especially in a region like UAE. With respect to this project, the convenience of the feasibility of implementation may be attributed to the following aspects:

The UAE has preferable environmental conditions such as abundant sunshine which forms the majority of the resources required for maintaining effective operations of the unit.

The investment sector in the country is at good levels which mean that the possibility of obtaining investments in the project is relatively convenient.

Due to the government’s direct involvement in encouraging green practices among the people, the project is guaranteed operational success in the near future where the contribution of the solar energy sector would be expected to be at least 5% by the year 2030.

The UAE has limited energy resources and the government intends to encourage a prolonged utilization of these non renewable resources so as to provide adequate resources for the future generations. In order to achieve this, alternative renewable resources need to be identified and implemented in keeping the potential growth areas in the nation. In this case, the utilization of solar panels for water heating would prove to be a highly viable alternative.

In light of the recent economic recessions and inflations, the reduction in energy costs provided by the solar panels for heating water would prove to be a potential benefit for the people who would incur fewer costs in comparison to the utilization of conventional energy sources (Todorova, 2009).

Scope Statement:

The solar panel project for heating water would be developed in exclusively keeping in with the UAE environment. All the proposals which would be made in the research would be based on the current environmental conditions and economic trends being witnessed in the country. The current as well as projected market trend would also be analyzed for identifying the prospective measures which need to be taken to ensure that the objectives of the project are duly fulfilled. Subsequently, the recommendations for the implementation of the solar water heating unit would be provided in keeping with the dynamics of the Emirati Environment (Todorova, 2009).

The research study would aim at achieving the following objectives:

Identifying and analyzing the current scenario for solar water heating technology in the UAE and globally.

Identifying the need for the solar water heating units in the UAE.

Identifying the legal and governmental frameworks which promote the adoption of solar based operational units in the region.

Analyzing current and future market trends for identifying the possible solar water heating implementations in the region.

Identifying the possible risks associated with the implementation of Solar Water Heating systems.

Providing suggestions for the effective implementation of Biofilter based systems in the UAE.

The main aim of the project plan is to evaluate the current and future technological developments in the UAE and correlating it with the resource strength of the region for determining the specifications of the solar water heating unit that is to be implemented in the region.

In order to identify the implementation requirements of the solar water heating system, the market would be analyzed thoroughly in terms of the availability of the resources for implementing this project and the consumers’ preferences towards the solar water heating units. The analysis of the market would be done in two stages with the first stage involving the current market and environment scenario and the second stage comprising of the future markets trends and scenarios. Primary research methods would be used for obtaining consumer preferences while the market analysis would exclusively be based on secondary data sources.

Expected Challenges:

Frequent developments in the technology can provide difficulties in adapting to the new technology as it would require modifications in the fundamental design and the components of the system.

Obtaining the required investments for the technology would be a challenging task as the adoption of solar energy on a commercial basis is a relatively new trend.

Expected Outcomes:

Creation of an industrial scale solar water heating unit.

Reduced costs (operational as well as overall costs)

Reduced emission levels from the water heating systems.

Project Gantt Chart:

The following Gantt chart provides an overview of the various stages associated with the project by means of which the progress may be monitored and tracked. Any delays in a particular process can be compensated by appropriately managing other processes.
