Initial site investigation and soil test have indicated that the site has poor ground conditions and a high water table. This document details outline proposals for the key issues and methodology for the construction of the building.

Prior to start of the construction site, an external survey will be taken to monitor the conditions, water table and other problems that would occur during the construction. 4. Site Access and Deliveries

8. Description of work
The proposal describes the construction to be one storey building with the dimensions of 70mx50m. The location is an Island which situated in the university campus. The location consists of poor soil and high ground water volume.
The following information describes different works which are to be carried out:
Three different methods of controlling ground water of the site and the pad foundation is described to be 3 metres deep.
Three different techniques for temporarily reinforcing the ground to enable plant and heavy machinery to access the site.
Three different methods of permanently improving poor soil under the ground bearing slab.
This section of the method statement includes the materials and equipment required for the construction of the given proposal building. The material and equipment required are as follows:
Ground water control: In this the first method is Wellpoints which requires shallow wells, pumps, pushfit valves and flexbow. The second method is Ground freezing which requires freeze pipes. The last method is Generic Submersible Pump which requires different pumps.
Temporary Soil Reinforcement: The three methods in this task namely Compaction, High Density Polymer and Chemical Improvement require polymers, various chemicals. It also requires machinery like bulldozers and rollers.
Permanent Soil Improvement: This part of the task includes methods like Excavation and Improvement, Dynamic Compaction and Soil Mixing. These methods machinery like mounted crane, bulldozers, rollers and auger machine.
This information indicates our proposed methodology and sequencing of operations which are necessary for the completion of the construction of the building. It also describes the full method statement for the ground works for the substructures of this building and a recommendation for suitable plant for excavation, compaction and hoisting for the superstructure construction.
Initially, as the site is an island there is poor soil condition and the ground water level is high so we need to find ways to control the ground water level so that the construction can be done. There are three different methods proposed by which this task can be accomplished. They are Wellpoints, Ground Freezing and Generic Submersible Pump. After the controlling the ground water the surface is ready and the soil can now be strengthen.

The next big task after controlling ground water would be temporary reinforcing the ground so that the plant and machinery could access the site. This is an important task as plant need to be installed to begin the construction and even the heavy machinery are required for the same. This can be done by means of three different methods. They are High Density Polymer, Chemical Improvement and Compaction. After the completion of this task the site is pretty much ready for use and the construction can be start.
The first step after this would be strengthening the soil under the ground to give a strong foundation for the building. This can be done by means of Dynamic Compaction, Soil mixing and Excavation and Replacement. This task strengthens the soil surface and makes it ready for construction.
After strengthening the soil the next task would be casting of the foundation. As mentioned in the proposal there would be a 3 metre deep Pad Foundation to support the portal frame. PAD FOUNDATION DESCRIPTION This would give strong surface for the construction of the building. After getting the foundations done the ground floor slab can be casted. After this task the ground surface is ready for the construction of the building. This ends the sub-structure and a strong foundation has been laid for the super-structure of the building.
The superstructure above the ground comprises of a long span portal frame building with the dimension of 70mx50m. The area to be excavated should be according to the dimensions of the building and it should be clearly marked.
Excavation work cannot be done in loose sand or gravel, soft clays or silts it has to be supported to prevent ground movement. Thus, it is recommended that proper compaction of the soil be done before the super-structure is constructed. As the excavation is 3 metres deep it is advised the soil heap to be 3 metres away from it.
There are many other measure which are recommended to reduce the risk for excavation like loose boulders should be kept in the soil heap to prevent them from rolling down into the excavation, temporary support should be increased in the excavation and vehicles routes must be plan to keep safe distance from the excavation. There are many risks even involved because of the presence of ground water. It is recommended to use suitable de-watering technique.
The building is proposed to be of 1 storey. According to the site conditions the height of the super-structure is proposed to be of proper height. It is recommended the hoist must be set on solid level ground. Weather can create problem in working of the hoist. This can be done by thunder and lightning, wind and rain. The hoist can work properly if we know what type of load is being loaded. There are various loads namely solid, liquid, sharp edged, loose, dusty, etc.

12. Methods of Prevention
Any hazardous material will be closely monitored and will be ceased if found dangerous.
All aggregates will be stored in large sack bags having larger capacity.
Regular inspection would be carried out to watch out weather the site is kept clean and the materials are kept in proper location.
Excavated material should be dumped as soon as possible in proper location.
Concrete shall not be poured in wet condition to ensure the strength of the concrete.
Fuel storage shall not be permitted on the site.
All construction traffic should be maintained properly.
Machinery should be used by trained personnel.
All new goods used for the construction should be factory finished and of high quality.
Burning of construction material is not allowed.
This method statement has been prepared for the works listed in the proposal. It provides with the details of the ground works for the substructure of the building.
