Building construction has been considered as in important part for the development projects. A building without ant flaw is very necessary for developers. Architecture, engineering and construction work make use of so many factors. This report discusses on some special aspects of domestic building construction. It includes the materials that are used for construction work and the materials such as brick, concrete etc. It focuses on building walls as well as on roofs. There are some areas available, which are concerned with the building along with the methods for construction. It includes environmental or construction quality, concurrent engineering.

The discussion will be done on the ways to assist the building construction activities that includes tools in assisting planning activities (Sadeghpour, Farnaz, Osama Moselhi, and Sabah Alkass, 2004), optimising stock and exchanging of materials on the building site (Soltani, A R and T Fernando, 2004). There are several ways that makes the building as environment friendly and it gives many befits to the surrounding areas. There are so many designing solutions, which have found during construction work. It includes geometry and building of construction.

Steps for building construction

It is of quite importance to analyse the land for the building construction. BS 5930:198 is considered as the starting for the building construction projects. These practices have been set with the technical methods, mechanical properties, scope, and fundamental objects of soils as well as procedures for site investigation. Some information has been taken out from site exploration that enables the project feasibility with planning and designing process for the foundation. Bills of quantities have drawn for causing the mining and drilling process. There are some facts that needed for the implementation of these objectives:

There are some products required for domestic building construction projects. These products are considered as important products among product categories (Catherine et al., 2007). These are:

Water: water should not be of good quality and it does not contain much quantity of salt in it.

Lime: There are three types of lime available such as hydraulic lime, lime putty and dry hydrated limes. These limes should be used in sufficient amount in building construction project.

Aggregate: Aggregates should be cleaned and washed before using it. Their size should not be much large. The aggregate's particle size should be used and that depends on the spacing in the construction work. Limestone dust can also be used along with aggregates but the ratio should be small.

The suggested lime to aggregate ratio should be 1:3.

Pozzolanic Additives: These additives are very important for setting non-hydraulic limes. It includes HTI, volcano's ash and china clay.

Other than products or material, there are various factors that are required in the building projects.

Security and fire suppression system is very essential or the safety of the buildings internally. It provides safety for the internal of the building and it also provides the safety protection for residents. It is very useful in protecting its assets efficiently.

Fire alarm system is very important because it warns everybody at the time of fire and gives them a way to save themselves from a serious cause. It plays alarm bell while the monitoring system protects the assets against the threat of an intrusion. This technique would the save the life of everyone who would be living in that building itself. Fire alarm system has become a part of the total security system in this high technological era. It provides security robbery protection along with fire protection.

This type of system supervises windows, doors, home spaces. It provides monitoring services with the dialling services to report for any serous cause such as fire, intrusion to the security office and then this information will be sent to police or fire department. It provides total security and safety to the building and its residents.


There are various ingredients required in the construction of the building part such as walls, roofs and other parts.

Strong base is very essential part in the construction projects of building. It establishes foundation for these types of projects (Anon, 2007). A good practice is used in breaking the river stones for this task. The process of reinforcement also helps in connecting the bases.

Good quality sand is also be used in the building construction work. This sand should be used in the form of coarse grains and it should not contain dust particle in it. The constructors should avoid gravel-sand mixture to avoid this type of problem at this stage. All waste is removed while making use of sand. The waste can be leaves, glasses and plastics.

Gravel is also used for the construction work. It is prepared from rocks that are crushed. However, this should not be larger in size as bigger stones. The gravel size should not be more than 20mm for making it a strong concrete.

The building construction should make sure that the constituents that are used in the construction work are mixed well and in the proper quantity.

The water should be used without any impurity because it can destroy the strength of concrete. The water and concrete should be mixed in proper ratio so that concrete should not become wet. Thus it can flow with the water.

It shall take care of the sand that there should not be stones in the sand. The gravel is to be added as per the mentioned ration above.

Roof of the building is one of the major parts in the building construction. This part of the building protects the whole building from any type of problem. So it should be strong enough to fight against this.

The triangular frame is to be used for roof construction. It shall be tied with each other or shall be placed above the column. Wooden blocks can be used in the construction work. It ensures long-term safety as well as strength. So the roof of the building should be safe than others.

Rainwater harvesting technique can also be used for keeping the rainwater for later use. Rainwater keeps the high degree of purify. Rainwater storage tanks are also required so that they can store the rainwater from the surfaces and can store it for the reuse of it (Vaes and Berlamont, 2001).

The space between well and septic tank should be maintained and it should be greater than 35 meters. It ensures the safety for building residents.

Building and its Environment

There is strong relationship between the building projects and natural environment because building projects may badly affect the environment (Nilanjan, 2008). The large amount of carbon dioxide is produced and released and it may harm the environment as well as health of human beings.

Building construction is also harmful for aquatic as well as terrestrial beings (Paul & Meyer, 2001; Pickett et al., 2001). There are so many risks associated with the building construction projects and it leads to some environmental problems (Arnold and Gibbons, 1997). Thus it leads to so many environment problems. The main reason for causing environmental problem is urbanization process. United States of America has taken out several steps to control these types of losses. LEED system has certified so many commercial and residential buildings.

We would make use of nutrient cycling, climate regulation, waste treatment, sediment retention, recycling of material (Horvath, 2004), regulation and supply and erosion control (Costanza et al., 1997). There is also a need of green roofing technique that would lead the lower temperature at the surfaces of roof (Kumar & Kaushik, 2005). The air quality would also be improved in this way (Clark et al., 2005).


The building construction has become very important part of life. We should make use of right quality of building material for constructing a domestic building. The products or materials should be properly mixed and used in the right quantity. Raw materials such as sand, gravel, concrete etc are to be used in proper ration to gain the highest strength. It also ensures the safety of the building.

There are several internal and important ways to keep building safe. It includes fire system, security alarm system at the time of major risk. The building should be prepared in a ecologically proved environment so that it will not harm anybody's life. The green roof technique is in use to ensure a safety for both building as well as its environment. If these all things are kept in mind then we would have a strong building.
