2.0 Horizontal Connections

The horizontal connection between the ash and lacy solid rainsreen and the Pilkington glass cladding posses some challenges in terms of integration between products from different manufactures.

3.0 Roof terrace connection

Ash and lacy solid rainscreen cladding is constructed on a structural grid made up of mullions and transoms. These mullions are connected to the building via a bracket which is bolted onto the wall surface; transoms are connected to the mullions. The system is made up of rainsreen panels made from aluminum composite material (ACM), insulated layer, and adjustable sub-frame maintaining a ventilated cavity and ventilated outer skin (rainsreen).

The ashtech rainsreen panels would be installed on the northern wall of the aviation of museum building, forming a parallel surface with the wall. However a cavity would be created between the wall and the rainsreen therefore creating an area of concern. Rain water can easily find itself into this cavity causing damage to the insulation and possible corrosion problems to the wall brackets, mullions and transoms.

However taking this into consideration a edge detail of 90 degrees to the rainsreen and roof terrace must be constructed and bolted onto the roof terrace, via brackets and secure with Pilkington tech screws over this cavity, therefore creating a seal system from on top of the roof terrace and onto the rainsreen preventing rain water.
