In this 21st century every business field has applied the computer network technology to share the resources and software to reduce the cost and to improvement their business to get maximum profit by providing the quality & productive services to the customer.

To build the quality and proper network in a Small Medium Size Enterprise first of all we need to understand the needs and demand of the Enterprise. So SME wants to build the Client/Server architecture based Local Area Network having 40 staff member to share the data and resource across the wired network of 25 Desktop PC and 15 Laptop with wireless network using the wireless Access point, Internet connection with ADSL router, and 2 printer for printing purpose, 1 image scanner for scanning the documents, 1 virtual connection, Database Management System & Backup Server.

Finding the needs and wants of the SME, Firstly we have to selecting the proper technology then only we can build the network efficiently and can get faster performance for Client/Server architecture based Local Area Network which is as given below.

Hardware: - It is refers as a physical part which we can touch and sense easily.

Software: - Software is a collection of set of programs which is designed for computer instructions to carry out a special task which can be stored electronically on hard disk drive is called software. Software is often divided into two categories.

Systems software: Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enable the computer to function. Such as Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft 2003 Server.

Applications software: Includes programs that do real work for users. For example, word processors, spreadsheets, and database management systems fall under the category of applications software.

Security System: - It is a process to protect the computer from unauthorized access to data and information of a private network connected to the internet. We can use different software for prevention of illegal access which is as given below.

Firewall: - It is refer to a computer program which has designed to block and protect unauthorized access while permitting authorized communications. Firewalls can be implemented in either hardware or software, or a combination of both. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which inspects each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.

Antivirus: - It is used to notice, avoid and delete malware, including computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.

The physical topology of a network refers to the configuration of cables, computers, and other peripherals. Physical topology should not be confused with logical topology which is the method used to pass information between server and workstations.

After Knowing the needs and wants of SME for Client/Server Local Area Network we have to use the Star Topology which is easy to implement and design the network because it is connected with each host computer over the network through central switch using Unshielded Twisted Pair cable to transmitting and receiving messages. The failure of a transmission line linking any host computer to the central switch will result in the isolation of that host computer from all others, but the rest of the systems will be unaffected.

2.2. Advantages of a Star Topology:

Easy to install wire.

No disruptions to the network then connecting or removing devices.

Easy to detect faults and to remove parts.

Technology:- Looking the needs and wants of SME for Client/Server Local Area Network we needs one wireless access point to share the data and resources over the wireless network using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) on it.

In a DHCP we have to fixed the to IP address. DHCP helps to assign the IP address automatically to the host over the wireless network.

Physical Component:

Cabling: it is the medium to transfer the infromation from one network device to another.So looking the topology we have to use the Unshielded Twist Pair Cat 6 UTP Solid Cable for the SME. It is cheaper and easy to make when required. The manufacturer and model for the Cat 6 UTP PVC Solid cable are as given below.

Network Interface Card: It is a physical circuit board or card which is installed in a computer that helps to provide the physical connection between the network and the host computer. The manufacturer and model for the NIC are as given below.

Switches: - It is a small physical device that provides a central connection point for cables from host computer, server and peripherals. It is responsible for routing and processing data in a data link layer of the OSI model and function as a traffic management system, which determining the source and destination of each packet and forwarding them message appropriately only to the connected device intended. Server: - It is a computer on network which manages resources such as a file server is a computer which is committed to save files from any system on a local area network in a building. It can be accessed either through a "front end" running on the user's computer which displays requested data or the back end which runs on the server and handles tasks such as data analysis and storage.

Backup Server: - A computer in a network which is designed to store copies of files from other servers or client machines to guard against data loss that has a very large disk. It can be accomplished using conventional backup software which must be installed on each backup server machine and backups will run normally to any conventional backup target period of time.

IP Address: - It is a uniquely identifies numerical label that is given to any devices participating on a TCP/IP network for communication from one computer to another on the internet. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, could be an IP address.

Virtual Private Network: - It is a protocol designed for secure communications in networks using Microsoft Terminal Services. People use remote desktop capability to do a variety of things remotely, including the following:

Access a workplace computer from home or when traveling.

Access a home computer from other locations.

Fix a computer problem.

Perform administrative tasks.

Demonstrate something, such as a process or a software application.
