Any business can operate without the availability of a telephone. If the business is small then a signal telephone line may suffice. It is rare nowadays for any business to manage without a least two lines, one for telephone calls and the other for use with a facsimile machine, or personal computer.

Devices are available which allow a signal line to detect whether an incoming call is a telephone or facsimile call, but even for small business these give the impression if penny pinching, especially when it is considered .
