In recent years personal computing has advanced considerably. Twenty years ago, computers could be anything up to a size of a room. They were hard to operate and required multiple personal to perform basic tasks. One of the major developments were by Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft Corporation. Bill Gates developed a operating system which collects software that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. For hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the operating system acts as an intermediary between programs and the computer hardware later became known as Windows. Meaning that you no longer had to use a manual to use a personal computer, it came simple and efficient. Later other operating system competed with windows, such as Liniux and Macintosh.
Creating a operating system simplified the use, the stroke of genius came with the creation of world wide web, which allowed to share files simultaneously and freely through the world. Later social media sites like "Facebook" became the attraction of the internet, hundreds of people use Facebook to communicate with their friends, share photos and discuss day to day topics. Also programs such as Skype allowed video calls. But to make sure all of those functions would be carried out, the developments of major components were required. AMD develops micro-processors, Cursair Air develops Random Accessed Memory (RAM) and many more all those inventions and developments lead to the world which we live in today. By reducing the size of technology it became cheaper to produce which lead to bigger usage. Many business in today world would not be able to operate properly and as efficient without the development of technology. With a smaller microchips, development of smartphones were possible, notebooks and laptops.
In this project I will explain how all those wonders of technology came to existence and I will identify the future trends of technology
History of Technology
Microsoft was established by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on April 4, 1975. Microsoft develops, manufactures, licenses and supports a wide range of products and services related to computing. One of the biggest Microsoft successes were its operating system "Windows".
Windows allowed simple use of computer. The first version of Windows was released in 1983, Windows 1.0 and it ran on a floppy disk of 256kilobytes. Windows quickly dominated the market and became the most used operating software in the world. With the success of Windows 1.0, bill gates continued to develop the operating system. It was named Windows because it was referred to the windows which popped up with a mouse click. Before the release of windows, users had to use Binary code in order to operate the computer, which was complex and consisted only of numbers (010101010)
By creating Operating system a whole new market was available. Because of the growth of the people using the computer, a simple and effective way had to be developed to transfer data with the world. This lead to the invention of World Wide Web.
World Wide Web
World Wide Web is commonly known as the web. It invented by Sir Timothy John who is a British computer scientist. The World Wide Web is a system of interlinked documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia. World Wide Web was a huge success and it lead to free sharing of files. People began "uploading" photos with a click of the button as software developed. Social Media sites such as Facebook became into existence, and today more than five hundred million people use Facebook.
Facebook was developed by Mark Zuckerburg. It was originally limited only for Harvard university but quickly expanded all though the Boston and the world. Facebook allows a simple way of communicating with friends, college students and employees. Facebook allows to share photos and other media.
With all the developments which took place, previously the computer was slow and unable to operate multiple functions. 20 years ago, Computers were extremely slow and complex, because of the growing marked, it was required to quickly expand the components, make components more reliable and cost effective for the public. Computer usually consist of Motherboard, RAM, Central processing unit, Video card and hard drive disk.
Motherboard is a system board where all the components are attached into sockets.
RAM is short for "Random Accesses Memory". A random-access device allows stored data to be accessed quickly. Data can be accessed quickly in any random order and processed by the CPU
CPU is Central Processing Unit. Is hardware within a computer system - which carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing input/output operations of the system.
A video card is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display.
Hard drive disk is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information. Previously the data storage was limited to kilobits, in today's technology the data available is Terabits.
The future of technology in computing leads to variety of possible outcomes. One of which will be the television and computer merging into one. Previously, in technology shows Samsung released SMART TV, not requiring a remote, and able to change channels with a hand moves.
There is a lot of focus in nanotechnology. By applying nanotechnology into computer components, it will reduce the size of the computer, boost its performance and allows for more economical consumption of electricity. It is possible because nanotechnology uses the smallest components known to man. Nanotechnology is the capability to manipulate, control, assemble, produce and manufacture things at atomic precision
In conclusion it is strongly evident that the creation of windows operating system shaped the way we use our computers. By those developments we were able to improve our life styles dramatically. The way we socialise, communicate and interact with other human beings have been changed. In near future even more things will be computerised and made simple to use.
