When you purchase a personal computer, it usually has system software installed on its hard disk. System software consists of the programs that control or maintain the operations of the computer and its devices. System software serves as the interface between the user, the application software, and the computer's hardware.

Two types of system software are operating systems and utility programs. Several types of utility programs are included with an operating system. Other utility programs are available stand-alone, that is, as programs separate from the operating system. This chapter discusses the operating system and its functions, as well as several types of utility programs for personal computers.

An operating system is a layer of software technology is primarily responsible for computer operation. This machine shield from low-level details of user of operating the machine, often need to provide facilities. What is the definition of not generally composed of the operating system. You can think of it as software has been installed in a machine, before you add any of your own. The normal operating system of a number of key elements: (I) technology of software, hardware, drive computer, such as a disk drive, the keyboard and screen, (2) a file system, provides a way, logically, organize files, (3) a simple command language allows users to run your program and files in the operation of a simple method. Some of the operating system also provides a text editor, compilation, debugging and various other tools. Since the operation system (OS) is responsible for the computer, all the requirements, using its resources and equipment operation needs. An operating system provides the first item (4) of the legitimate access points of its code execution of basic operation, such as write equipment.

Operating System

An operating system is a set of programs containing instructions that work together to coordinate all the activities among computer hardware resources. Most operating systems perform similar function that include starting a computer, providing a user interface, managing programs, managing memory, coordinating tasks, configuring devices, establishing an Internet connection, monitoring performance, and providing file management utilities. Some operating system also allow users to control a network and administer security.

In most cases, the operating system is installed and resides on the computer's hard disk. On handheld computers and many mobile devices such as smart phones, however, the operating system may reside on a ROM chip.

Different sizes of computers typically use different operating system. For example, a mainframe computer does not use the same operating system as a personal computer. Even the same types of computers, such as desktop computers, may not use the same operating system. Some, however, can run multiple operating system. When purchasing application software, you must ensure that it works with the operating system installed on your computer.

The operating system that a computer uses sometimes is called the platform. On purchased application software, the package identifies the required platform (operating system). A cross-platform program is one that runs the same on multiple operating systems.

System, there are many different operating systems, designed for all types of computers. No matter the size of the computer, but most operating systems provide similar functionality. The following sections discuss the most common features of the operating system. Operating system to address many of these features automatically, without any instruction from a user.

Network Operating System

As earlier in this chapter, the network operating system is an operating system, is designed to support networks. Network operating system typically resides on the server. Client computers on the network to rely on the resources of the server. Many of the combination of the client operating system on a discussion with the network operating system work system. Of independent operators in the previous section discussed some of the systems, including network functions, however, the network operating system is designed to support all of the network size, including medium to large enterprises and the Web server. Network operating system includes an instance of Windows Server 2008, UNIX, and Linux, Solaris and NetWare. Windows Server 2008 is part of Windows server systems. In addition to Windows Server 2008, Windows Server systems development

Application Software

With the proper software, a computer is a valuable tool. Software allows users to create letters, memos, reports, and other documents; design Web pages and diagrams; draw and alter images; record and enhance audio and video clips; prepare and file taxes; play single player or multiplayer games; compose e-mail messages and instant messages; and much more. To accomplish these and many other tasks, users work with application software. Application software consists of programs designed to make users more productive and/or assist them with personal tasks.

Application software is available in a variety of forms: packaged, custom, Wed-based, open source, shareware, freeware, and public domain.

Packaged software is mass-produced, copyrighted retail software that meets the needs of a wide variety of users, not just a single user or company. Microsoft Office 2007 and Adobe Photoshop are examples of packaged software. Packaged software is available in retail stores or on the Web.

Custom software performs functions specific to a business or industry. Sometimes a company cannot find packaged software that meets its unique requirements. In this case, the company may use programmers to develop tailor-made custom software, which usually costs more than packaged software.

An Internet service provider (ISP), sometimes called an Internet access service providers (IAP), is a provide online. The ISP connection to its customers to use data transmission technology is suitable for the provision of Internet protocol paradigm, such as dialling, DSL, cable modems, special high-speed wireless or connected. Internet service providers (isps) provide Internet E-mail accounts, customers, allow them to communicate via email and receiving through the ISP's server. Internet service providers (isps) provide remote data files on behalf of their clients and other service for each particular unique service providers.

In May 2008 in Malaysia. Through tapping the potential 3G video phone video, Asian club meetings, make people more easily communicate and share. Dial a local users access number can be connected to service, and in the next people video recording their personal data gateway video blogs, this film and encourage friends, exchange and sharing information, and private video chat formed community.

A network is a collection of computers and devices connected together via communications devices and transmission media. Many business network their computers together to facilitate communications, share hardware, share data and information, share software, and transfer funds. The next page elaborates on how businesses use networks. A network can be internal to an organization or span the world by connection to the Internet. Networks facilitate communications among users and allow users to share resources, such as data, information, hardware, and software. The following paragraphs explain the advantages of using a network.

Facilitating communications- Using a network, people communicate efficiently and easily via e-mail, instant messaging, chat rooms, blogs, wikis, online social networks, video telephone calls, online meeting, video conferencing, VoIP, wireless messaging services, and groupware. Some of these communications, such as e-mail, occur within a business's internal network. Other times, they occur globally over the internet.

Sharing hardware- In a networked environment, each computer on the network has access to hardware on the network. Business and home users network their hardware to save money. That is, it may be too costly to provide each user with the same piece of hardware such as a printer. If the computers and a laser printer are connected to a network, the computer usera each access the laser printer on the network, as they need it.

Transferring funds- Called electronic funds transfer (EFT), it allows users connected to a network to transfer money from one bank account to another via transmission media. Both businesses and consumers use EFT. Consumers use an ATM to access their bank account. Business deposit payroll checks directly in employees' bank account. Consumers use credit cards to make purchases from a retail Web site. Businesses use EFT to purchase and pay for goods purchased from vendors. Both businesses and consumers pay bills online, with which they instruct a bank to use EFT to pay creditors. Instead of using the Internet or investing in and administering an internal network, some companies hire a value-added network provider for network functions. A value-added network is a third-party business that provides networking services such as secure data and information transfer, storage, e-mail, and management reports. Some VANs charge an annual or monthly fee; other change by service used.

Networks usually are classified as a local area network, metropolitan area network, or wide area network. The main differentiation among these classifications is their area of coverage, as described in the following paragraphs.

Today's networks connect terminals, devices, and computer from many different manufacturers across many types of types of networks, such as wide area, local area, and wireless. For the different devices on various types of network must use similar techniques of moving data through the network from one application to another. For example, an IBM mainframe computer cannot communicate directly with an Apple Macintosh network- some form of translation must occur for devices on these two types of network to communicate.

The first private organization to register Internet domain names. Founded in 1979 as a consulting company, it continues to be perhaps the best known registrar along with about 600 others accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Sold in 2007 to global private equity firm General Atlantic, the products and services of Network Solutions have expanded well beyond domain name registration. A complete line of Web hosting, Web design and e-commerce services is offered to a target niche of small businesses, most with less than 10 employees.

Broadband refers to the ability of users browse content across the Internet, including large files (such as video, audio, and 3D broadband refers to an enhancement. The ability to do so. This term is not separation can do. A user's broadband ability is usually the last kilometer problem, the relation between the ISP and users.

Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes are implemented without the use of wires. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, for the carrier and this implementation usually takes place at the physical level or "layer" of the network.

When I finish this assignment, now I know about Operating System, Network Operating System, Application Software, network and so on. An operating system (OS) is a software and hardware interface and user, operating system and application of the hardware is in the user interface and the application. The main function is operating system management and coordinate activities and the allocation of resources sharing and computer. And in today's society and network is indispensable, a network, people can through the Internet to contact, for example have facebook, MSN, Skype and so on. Merchants can directly on the network for business. It is a network of people communicate well and contact way.
