Method of Data storage and capacity

The method of reading and writing is similar to other discs like blue ray disc. As we know that numerous pits are there in the disc on which the data is stored with the help of laser beam of various wavelength [407 nm in case of blu-ray]. In UV system this beam used is around 202 nm of the light spectrum.

Maximum capacity per side is 167.2 GB for phase 1 and 432 GB for phase 2. Maximum cartridge capacities are 334 GB and 864 GB respectively. A polycarbonate substrate and a spiral groove for tracking is still used in phase 1. The success of phase 2 may require the use of patterned media both for tracking and bit confinement.

Ultraviolet Disc is the future of optical data storage and is much more advance technique than blu-ray or holographic data storage. It is got immense capacity to write the data on a single disc. Optical storage for content distribution is facing new competition by cloud based content access system. However, as the size of content is growing with higher resolution there is still a role of local storage technologies like optical discs, at least for some time in future.
