The main aim of our project is to develop business plan in which the Start IT and business networking needs a network audit plan and also need services like high quality of service and decrease the customer complaints regarding lags and jittery video services. The company also needs us to fix the problems as it has initial set up in traditional data services and as it is struggling with vast increase in traffic as well as convergence of voice and general data.

The company has given few tasks in developing the business plan they are

  • Develop a Network Audit plan.
  • Details of Network Infrastructure Plan regarding requirements.
  • Good Quality of Service.
  • To develop accurate Service level Agreement.

The most successful plans currently used in business today is Software Development Life Cycle. It is designed to be used in business systems. It often includes planning, analysis, design, implementation and support. The aim of this design is to complete the high quality tasks with less risks and with low cost. SDLC contains different phases like

  • Planning: Planning includes Identify the problems, opportunities and objectives.
  • Analysis: Analysis includes how to determine information requirements, prepare written system proposals and find system needs.
  • Design : It means to design and build an architecture for the system at the end of the analysis, it also needs to create the documentation for the system.
  • Implementation: It needs to install from old system to new system, train the users.
  • Maintenance: Update the data at regular interval and correct the system when ever it's necessary.

Network Audit Plan:

Network Audit Plan acquires all the main objectives required for the development of our project. As we are doing audit plan for IT business and company it mainly consists of Hardware, software and Licensing requirements. So as this is a changing from small scale industry to Medium scale the requirements required for the development of the project are also up to the industry standards.

VoIP has teleconferencing which doesn't require costly equipment and it can be administrated on user level. The system can be designed and developed as to be independent of the different user environment and also offer high QoS by reducing processing delay. It can be achieved by introducing a high-speed mixing method to synchronize and mix RTP voice streams.

Hardware requirements consist of Servers, Desktops, Conducted Media, Wireless media, Connections and other hardware requirements.

Different types of hardware devices are useful to design a local area network including Hubs, Switches, Bridges, and Routers. It also consists of other hardware devices like printers, Workstations and Network devices.

Network storage: Cisco NSS6100 4-bay Advanced Gigabit Storage System - 1.0TB RAID

Server: HP ProLiant - DL370 G6 - 12 GB RAM - 2.66 GHz

Computers: HP Pro -3015-2GBRAM- 2.7GHz-320GBHDD.

Software changes from time to time as Start IT business uses older version of technology for voice and video teleconferencing. It needs to upgrade from vioce to video applications.

Cisco IOS and NX-OS Software : As it is network infrastructure software which increases it's softwareintegration for small business.

Microsoft Live Meeting is also used for seamless video conferencing services. It also needs security software and firewalls for protecting their data from outsiders.

Network Operating systems are of different types like MacOS X, Unix, Linux and different Windows 98/XP/Vista. There different OS in IBM Mainframes.Novell Netware is currently used when compared to Microsoft Windows and Linux.

Unix is also hard to beat as it mostly runs on all processors. Windows have many applications of Microsoft like word,Excel etc but Novell Netware is mostly used as it is fast in serving files to different workststions. Novell Netware OS is very good at directory services and also in printing and file sharing.

The last and the most important audit required for developing IT Business is Licensing. Licensing is used mostly for all the products for the development of the software or hardware. It needs licensing for Cisco products and also for the hardware,security, even for firewall, Operating Software and even for the application used in the development of a product.

Software licensing Agreements is a legal contract for software package and its usage. It specifies how the software is legally used for certain term and certain period of time. It also states that the software is not allowed for renting or lease it to third party. It also states if the software used needs to be upgraded after certain period of time. It informs the software when to upgrade or the previous version needs upgrade before installing. Copyright is also one the main licensing agreement as it contains all the documents, figures and materials which are copyrighted and protected under laws. Maintenance informs the user about the product in purchase of the package.

Network Infrastructure Plan:

Infrastructure Plan for the Start IT and business consists of different factors. It includes Hardware, Software requirements used for the development of our Product. Infrastructure plan includes various requirements .

The main purpose of our plan for Start IT and Business is to Develop an infrastructure plan in which all the requirements for the business. It consists of different plans like

For all Security issues network infra structure vulnerabilities are basic in entire information system. Generally lot of issues related to network infrastructure security. Some are technical and we require tools to access them in right way. Some other issues can easily solved by logical thinking while accessing companies infrastructure security they need to look some of the devices like placement firewall of the fire wall on the network and the configuration of the network. some network designs like internet connection needs to be placed on network hosts. Network maintenance and its monitoring and host configuration are the areas needs to look after to access company's security infrastructure.

There are some of the tools like scanners and analysers which are referred as venerability assessment tools. Scanners contains port scanning and networking tools are super scan Getif , Nmap. Port scanners displays complete information on network by scanning it and port scanners provides the process of it working. Port scanners big picture view cannot cover security issues these are easy to use and can test the running applications and Operating systems. Identifying ports and about its running is displayed by feature rich scanner.

Fault management plan

In this process locating fault means identifying fault in the data network it involves the stapes like detecting fault ,isolating fault and fixing fault .Because there are several component in the network like router ,buffer, switches and good performance of all this is essential for smooth running of a system and hence some action has been taken in order to improve the per

In configuration management plans, we are configuring the behavior of the data network that is if any fault is occurred we are fixing that fault and also setting the performance of these devices in order to increase efficiency of the data network. Company has purchased many fault configuring devices which automatically fixing the fault

Performance plans

We are providing services with minimized error rate, with minimized response time, also with minimized overall throughput. We are using new techniques of investigating faults and hence the performance of overall network is improved as fault are easily detected with the new tools and technology and hence problems in communication can be resolved more accurately

Security plans

It is the process in which allowing or denying access to information flowing in the data network is taken in to account and hence password locking of the software is done to make the system more secured here monitoring access point, recording information, logging complaints are the process included .Customer complaint are registered and revived and accordingly new plans are implemented to achieve services with the newly innovated technology

Accounting plans

In this plan individual utilization is monitored and accordingly billing system is improved so that the customers are charged according to their utilization also some schemes are available for customers who are using our services from long time and you can see it in service level agreement

Quality of service:

Quality of Service (QoS) is a set of technologies for managing network traffic in a cost effective manner to enhance user experiences for home and enterprise environments. QoS technologies allow you to measure bandwidth, detect changing network conditions (such as congestion or availability of bandwidth), and prioritize or throttle traffic. For example, QoS technologies can be applied to prioritize traffic for latency-sensitive applications (such as voice or video) and to control the impact of latency-insensitive traffic (such as bulk data transfers).

Quality of Service describes the total experience of the application on the network or the product. It consists of protocols, different technologies and architecture. QoS plays a main role in multiservice networks.

Quality of service includes of different parameters as a service level offered. It also consists of different parameters like

  • Bandwidth
  • Delay
  • Jitter
  • Loss

Network availability

Network availability has some effect on QoS. The customer or client may have some undesirable performance. It consists of many requirements which are used for the development of network. these also includes of network devices like routers, switches , cards or power supplies, protocols, physical connections like fibre optics, coaxial cables. The greatest challenge in present world for the network operators is to provide highly available IP networks.

Bandwidth is also one of the main parameters which effects QoS. It consists of different band widths which can be divided into two types.

  • Available bandwidth
  • Guaranteed bandwidth

Available bandwidth is mostly used by different networks to maximise the return on their investments. This allows different users to use the available networks as they get more or less bandwidth depending upon the traffic from different users on their network at any time. It is mostly used over consumer ADSL networks.

Guaranteed bandwidth

As the network offers a service which provides a guaranteed bandwidth and burst bandwidth in SLA. As this is guarantee bandwidth it is priced high when compared with available bandwidth service. As who prefer the guaranteed bandwidth will ensure a good treatment or QoS when compared with available bandwidth. But in few case the guaranteed bandwidth shares with available bandwidth services as there is no other service or it is priced more than other providers.


Delay causes some significant issues with some applications like voice and video. It also has some problems with other applications like SNA and fax transmission that time out and fail under certain circumstances or delay conditions. Few applications create small amount of delay but once they reach certain amount the QoS becomes more typical. Delays can be fixed and variable. Examples of Fixed delays are propagation delay across the network. data transmission over the physical network. voice delays processing over TCP/IP software. Examples of variable delays are connection with different traffic at each node.


Jitter is measure of delay occurred between consecutive packet for given traffic flow. It has delay sensitive applications like voice and video. These applications receive the packets at constant rate with fixed delay between consecutive packets. All networks consist of jitter because of variability in delay introduced by each node as packet are queued. As long as jitter is bounded QoS can be maintained.


Loss mainly occurs due to errors introduced by the physical medium such as land line connections has low loss. Wireless connections like satellite mobile or fixed networks have high bit error rate. It varies due to environment or geographical conditions such as rain, fog, cell handoff during roaming or physical obstacles like trees, towers, buildings and mountains.

Service level Agreement:

A service level agreement is a agreement between a provider and the client usually in
measurable terms. The service level agreement is an official document for technical support services between the IT Business company and its clients. The terms and condition s which are applicable after the delivery of the product.

VoIP features:

VoIP has offered different feature like call conference, call hold, Call Log, Call Waiting, Classes of Service, Mute and offer different other services.

Configuration Management:

Configuration Management is mainly involves adjusting the network features like hardware, software etc.

Equipment Maintenance:

It mainly consists of upgrade, reconfiguration of VoIP related equipments. The hardware components which are used also needs to be upgraded at certain period of time. The change in the equipment also ensures reliability and performance. Notifications are helpful for notifying the firm about the equipment when to upgrade.


SLA updates the various equipment used in the development of the project like hubs, switches, routers, servers etc. The various equipment used in the development of the project needs to be upgraded after certain period of time

Signal Quality: Itmeasures call signal and setup performance, representing a initial exposure to VoIP service. The entire performance of the infrastructure is initiated by monitoring the calls over VoIP and a detail is provided for each and every setup. Some of the signalling quality like registration delay and post- delay assists in troubleshooting in setup infrastructure.


Delivery Quality: It measures performance of the data signal during deleivery of the call. There are different problems which arise during the delivery of the voice or data signal which may effect in loss of packets, it also have problems like long latencies and signal strength all contribute to overall call satisfaction.
