Portable nature of smart phones eases the AR related works. Most of the AR applications are backed by GPS services for location based services and this technology will be further developed in next two years. Most wanted information can be found with a single whip of the phone without making calls and searching online.

The main problem with AR based service is lack of accuracy of the content captured by phone cameras which sometimes not similar as live content. In order to overcome this issue a standard way should be followed in capturing live contents such as people, buildings, etc.

5.2.2 PC Replacements

John B. (2010) suggested that in future smart phone usage will be similar to laptop like usage. 5.2.4 Seamless Voice Control

Voice commands on smart phones came to the discussion with the introduction of Siri application on iOS. The next step is moving to 3D smart phone displays where already introduced 3D smart phones like LG Optimus 3D, Motorola MT810 and AMOLED 3D stand in the market.

As the next improvement 3D smart phones will get projection capabilities. 6.2.1 Operating systems environments available in Smartphone's and technological evolution of operating systems in smartphones

As stated in the Section 3.2 there are four smartphone operating system environments. They are, Blackberry OS, Apple IOS, Android OS and Windows Mobile operating systems. Comparative analysis of the main features of these operating systems are given in Table 4.1 up to Table 4.5 .Accordingly, requirements of the Aim 1 has been covered.

6.2.2 Current situation of operating systems used in smartphones

As stated in the Section 4.3 covered current situation of the major four operating systems such as; Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Blackberry. Therefore this chapter has several objectives such as,

Analyze mobile operating systems based on Internet access.

File handling, Data Transferring, Network features like File Transfer using NFC,

Audio and video such as HDR capabilities and Panorama photo moods.

Security and Backup features like Remote device location tracking, Remote device locking or data wipe after wrong lock code entry, per application network data usage auditing, Parental controls, On-device encryption, Cloud encrypted storage.

Graphical user interface and its features like GPU Accelerated GUI and Desktop interactive widgets

Other utilities features like USB on the go, Interchangeable external memory cards, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Push notifications, Multitasking, accuracy and application support.

Accordingly, requirements of the Aim 2 and Aim 3 have been covered.

This chapter describes about Future trends in features and facilities of Smartphone were covered in chapter V. They are Augmented Reality (AR), In-Built Projector, Seamless Voice Control and 3D Screens & Holograms. Therefore this chapter has several objectives such as,

Augmented Reality - get the real world place photo like some cafe or restaurant picture. Then using that photo search the location of that cafes or restaurant using GPS data through the internet.

In-Built Projector -projector capability into Smartphone phone,

Seamless Voice Control - voice activated application in advance support like Apple Siri.

3D screens & Holograms - enhanced user interface with easy used, normal touch interface into physically projecting to outer space of mobile.

This section includes conclusions about File handing, Data transferring and networking features of an Android, blackberry OS, Apple iOS and Windows mobile OS. They are File transfer using near field communication (NFC), file transfer using Wi-Fi, file transfer using Bluetooth, external memory cards, voice over IP,SSH, VPN, proxy server and wireless system updates.

NFC mostly used in payment methods such as credit card and electronic tikes booking systems as well as file transferring. It will ensure the privacy and power consumption. That feature these days allows mobile phone as small wallets that store personal identity information as well as payment information. It can be used to file transferring with NFC support any other mobile device with securely.

File transfer using Wi-Fi and wireless system updates are most important part of the smartphone, it will reduce the file transferring time over Bluetooth and it can be more accurate and more flexible to use. Wireless system update also more user friendly other than the Smartphone plug in to computer and update the system. It is more flexible feature, because user want to get the call or he want to function the mobile when it updating the system, computer puling is some time not efficiency and it may be some time disconnects, then it was a time wasting process. But other operating systems such as; Android, Blackberry and Windows mobile support that feature directly with the operating system.

Secure shell (SSH) is used for transfer or access SSH servers. It is inbuilt on android, iOS and Blackberry OS but Windows mobile currently not support that feature through the operating system but 3rd party application are available for windows mobile phones.

VPN allow to access to the public network via mobile phone. It is more important in Wi-Fi or any other public network with securely. That feature in-built in iOS and android operating systems. Windows Mobile OS don't support it with directly but also it can be used with 3rd party application and blackberry OS doesn't support it yet.

This section includes security and Backup features in smartphone operating system. They are local full backup feature, Sync to Desktop, Privacy of synchronization, Cloud encrypt storage ,external storage encryption, on-device encryption, remote device locking and data wipe, remote device location tracing.

Remote device location tracking is mostly used for track your or others mobile device to find its exact location. As a example apple have application call "Find my iPhone", finder log on above application using finder iPhone username and password then he can find the location about that iPhone locate. It is most widely used to find stolen iPhones and mothers used to find their children's in actual places. Blackberry OS and Windows Mobile, But Android not support with in-built in operating system. Therefore android have 3rd party application to remote tracking.

External storage encryption and on-device encryption are secure method for file storage services in smartphones. When any data is stored in smartphone it will save regular data store pattern using particular operating system. That pattern may be different to the operating system. It is more secure when storing data into smartphone.

Remote Device locking and data wipe is most commonly using to protect the information in the smartphone. If it stolen the smartphone, on that situation other party try to unlock the phone, then he attempt to wrong password in several time then phone automatically erase all data in that phone.

This section mentioned about other utilities such as; printer support, Text document support, Bluetooth keyboard, USB keyboard, Alternative input methods, turn-by-turn navigation, usb-on-the-go and multitasking.

The multitasking feature allows to users can use several application in parallel such as playing music and browsing the internet or browsing internet and copy some details into notepad with floating application concept.

Turn by turn navigation work with GPS data. It will indicate the routs using interactive map with directions to the destination. It will help to find the locations on a maps and touts to anyone on. But Apple iOS v6 have some accurate problems. Android and Windows Mobile 7 versions support that feature accurately.

Printer support feature is in-built support only for Apple iOS with AirPrint technology. That method can connect printers through the Wi-Fi. It is portable and wireless method to print the document via smartphones.

Chapter VII - Critical evaluation

7.1 Introduction

The critical evaluation for this project is divided into two parts. The first part is a critical evaluation of the product and the second is a critical evaluation of the process.

7.2 Critical evaluation

The academic question for this project is as follows:

What are the popular operating systems available in smart phones and how they differ from features and facilities?

There are four further aims to the project:

Understand operating systems environments available in smart phones.

Research on technological evolution of operating systems in smart phones.

Understand the current situation of operating systems used in smart phones.

Research on future trends in facilities and facilities smart phone operating systems.

To help achieve the aims of the project the following objectives have been put in place:

Identify common smart phone operating system software platforms.

Investigating on the technological evolution of smart phone operating systems.

Analyze on currently available features and facilities and why they are widely used?

Analyze mobile operating systems based on following criteria:

Audio and video features in smartphone operating systems.

Graphical user interface and its features in smartphone operating systems.

File handling, data transferring, network features in smartphones operating systems.

Security and backup features in smartphone operating systems.

Other utilities in smartphones operating systems.

Identify future key challenges in mobile operating systems.

7.2.1 Product evaluation

The product produced as a part of the project is this report. The main focus from the start of the report was ensuring that it was written with a logical flow and to dedicate one chapter to each of the objective. This has been achieved with the inclusion of additional chapters dedicated to the literature review Operating system environments available in smartphones were discussed in early chapters in order to provide the reader with background information on the main aim of the project.

Product evaluation was conducted by comparing the expected outcome given above with actual outcome. The actual outcome has been covered from chapter III up to chapter VI.

Findings in relation to first Aim had been covered in Table 4.1 up to Table 4.5 .Therefore it can be considered that expected outcome has been achieved completely.

First issue is how to determine appropriate operating systems relevant to operating systems. Because these days have several smartphone operating systems. Therefore I and followed the several web forums sites to select the main operating systems. Then I selected four major operating systems such as Android OS, Apple iOS, Windows Mobile OS and Blackberry OS. Then I faced another issues with some project aims such as research on future trends in facilities of smartphone operating systems key literatures are very rare. I think some operating systems developed companies do not publish their future invents.

When start the research I faced another problem. When searching the resources form the internet, its have several articles on websites, sometime I get confuse because some articles are cannot guaranties such as server operating systems release version dates are different in some web pages.

7.2.2 Process Evaluation

This project began with the completion of the initial project proposal form (PRO1) following a 'module overview presentation' given by the Mr Ramesh and Mr Vasu. The PRO1 form included the title and aims for the project. The initial title for this project was "Study on popular operating systems used on Smartphones: comparative analysis on features and facilities" and the initial aims of the project were as follows:

Aims to the project:

Understand operating systems environments available in smart phones.

Research on technological evolution of operating systems in smart phones.

Understand the current situation of operating systems used in smart phones.

Research on future trends in facilities and facilities smart phone operating systems.

The next form to be completed for the project was a second project proposal form (PRO2) which specified the project in more detail. It could be argued that the production of one project proposal form would be sufficient for this type of project. The PRO2 form was reviewed and revised several times before being signed off by the supervisor.

The initial focus of the project was work based however due to time constraints and work restrictions this was not possible. The revised focus for the project became the academic research and the aims and objectives were adjusted to reflect this.

In order to monitor and track progress of the project an initial project plan was created in Microsoft's Project software. Its first time used that software therefore I learned lot of thinks and techniques form it. I used Microsoft word 2007 software for document writing. Then I was learned new advance features from it. In addition to the project plan there was also a requirement to complete weekly log books and attend several times for supervisor meetings. It was very useful in ensuring that the progress of the project was according to plan. Following submission of the weekly log books the project plan was updated to reflect the progress made.

As the weeks progressed it was clear that the initial project plan required revision to include additional tasks. The additional tasks introduced were the research tasks which were divided into interim and final research. Completion of the interim research would lead to the submission of the interim report and completion of the final research would lead to the submission of the final report. This meant that the research process could be staggered and managed more effectively.

Following the changes made to the project a significant amount of academic research was needed. Initial research proved to be quite slow and laborious. Some time very little resource were available on the subject of Future trends in features & facilities of smartphones. The research process had to be further expanded to include journal articles, white papers, blogs and web based articles and test practitioner magazines.

The amount of time and effort spent on the interim report could have been better spent on the full report. However, the constructive feedback and direction received from the supervisor on the interim report enabled a better understanding of what was expected for the remainder of the project and full report. Even though additional tasks were added to the project plan the management and planning of the project went very well. The aims, objectives and each milestone of the project were met and the documents produced at each stage were of a high standard.

7.3 Self Reflection

The development of this report has presented a unique challenge in that it required not only that I research and analyze applicable technologies, techniques and standards, many of which I knew little about before hand, but also that I determine the aims and objectives against which the success of the project would be judged, making sure these aims and objectives were achievable, realistic, presented a good challenge but were not so expansive that I might not meet them within the given timeframe. At the same time I had to be careful to ensure the aims and objectives were not too limiting such that the discussion and analysis ran short prematurely. Adding to this, I had to manage the project plan and my time carefully to ensure tasks were completed in good time and to a high level of quality.

I was pleased with the end report, which covered all the areas I wanted to try to cover given the time available to me to write it. I would however have liked the time to develop the High Level Design as originally planned, but can see now this would not have helped me significantly to achieve the main aims, which the report covers adequately.
