Now-a-days internet is the most important think in the advanced world. Without internet we can't imagine our daily life and the internet is based on millions of web page. The internet of web design is to create a web site a collection of electronic documents and applications that reside on a web server. Improvements in browsers' compliance with W3C standards prompted a widespread acceptance and usage of XHTML/XML in conjunction with Cascading Style Sheets to position and manipulate web page elements and objects.

Web design is a kind of graphic design intended for development and styling of objects of the Internet's information environment to provide them with high-end consumer features and aesthetic qualities.

The process of designing web pages, web sites, web applications or multimedia for the Web may utilize multiple disciplines, such as animation, authoring, graphic design, human-computer interaction and so on.

Readable: Another most important rule in web design is web site should be easy to read. The majority of visitors will be searching through quickly to find the data they want in web site. Give it short sentences, lots of shot points, simple instructive headings, dependable typefaces and layout.

Interactivity: The second most important attribute a Web site should have is interactivity. Good interactivity engages the user and makes site outstanding and memorable.

Comfortable: Every content in a webpage have to be vey high.

Easy to use: Every website have to be very easy to use. Because if it is not easy viewers will not feel comfortable with webpage.

Be up-to-date: Now-a-days every single want to be up to date. thats why a good webpage have to be up-to-date

:Web site in internet explorer:

This is the apple's (www.apple.co.uk) web site page. This is the home page of apple's web page.. This web site has search engines to find out any things. It is the best way to search any things. In this web site, it has lots of contents. So user can use this web page easily and get information quickly. Web site made by short sentences, lots of shot points, simple instructive headings, dependable typefaces and layout. As a result it is easy to read. Size of web page is 80KB, so it is to download. Designer use jpg format images for design this web site. Web page is up-to-date on 8 jun 2010. It is the latest web page from apple.

2.1 Briefly describe the different markup and scripting languages. (P3)

Markup languages: Markup language is a set of words and symbols for describing the identity of pieces of a document. Programs can use this with a style sheet to create output for screen, print, audio, video etc.

Example-HTML, XML and CSS all this are Markup languages.

HTML Markup language: The definition of HTML is Hypertext Markup Language. It is the predominant markup language for web pages. HTML provides a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists etc. The tags are separate normal text from HTML code.

Example-

<html>

<head>

<title>Hello HTML</title>

</head>

<body>

<p>Hello World!</p>

</body>

</html>

XML Markup language: XML is Extensible Markup Language. XML is a set of rules for encoding documents electronically. The main purpose of XML was to simplify SGML by focusing on a particular problem documents on the Internet.

XHTML Markup language: XHTML is Extensible Hypertext Markup Language. It is a family of XML markup language that mirror or extend versions of the widely used Hypertext Markup Language. XHTML is an application of XML, a more restrictive subset of SGML.

Features-

Frames: Frames can solve simple navigation problems, but on reflection, Frames make indexing a web page via Meta tags very difficult. Each frame is a simple HTML web page in its own right, normally bound together by a special HTML page called a frameset. The greatest power of frames is that they can be nested, and nested to a high degree.

Tables: Tables are useful for presenting data, but the true power of the tables comes when the Borders are turned off and the tables are used as a layout tool. The contents of the pages need to be formatted by tables.

Layers: Different browsers display different layers slightly. New browsers are developed by all the manufactures then more consistently. Different versions of IE even display different layers.

CSS: It is much easier than using a program such as Dreamweaver to create them. It is standard for all the pages on a web site to access the same .css file.

Rule consists of two parts:

Selector - the part before the left curly brace

Declaration - the part within the curly braces

H1 (colour: blue)

Selector Declaration

Scripting languages: A scripting language is a form of programming language that is usually interpreted rather than compiled. Scripting languages can be used to create specialized graphical user interfaces and forms that enhance the convenience of search engines, Web-based e-mail and e-commerce.

Example- JavaScript and VB script, bash, Bourne shell, C shell, DSSSL, JCL are scripting languages.

Java Script: JavaScript is an object-oriented scripting language used to enable programmatic access to computational objects within a host environment. It is also used in other applications, primarily used in the form of client-side JavaScript, implemented as part of a web browser. JavaScript is a dialect of the ECMAScript standard and is characterized as a dynamic, prototype-based language with first-class functions.

2.3Investigate the features of a range of commercial web authoring tools. (P4)

Web Authoring tools: Web authoring is the process of writing code or using authoring tools to generate the commands that are translated by a browser into a web page or full site.

Word Processors: Word processors such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or Open Office Writer are some of web authoring tools. Word processors contain an option that allows creating web pages from text documents.

Desktop Publishing: Desktop publishing programs can be used to create hard copy content, such as magazines or newspapers. It create virtual pages of web content that can be linked together.Users can add multimedia to the pages, such as video, graphics or audio files.

Website Management Systems and Webpage Builders: Website management systems, or hosting sites, are systems that allow users to upload and manage their web pages. These systems offer to create web-authoring tool and maintain their web pages.

HTML Editors: HTML editing programs are some of the most powerful web authoring tools. Those are mainly used by professionals to create commercial web pages. HTML editors can be used to create basic HTML markup like a word processor, or CSS, JavaScript.

HTML/Text Editors Tools: Following tools are most widely uses web authoring tools-

Adobe PageMill

AOLPress

BBEdit

Home Page

Site Management/HTML Editing Tools: Included below is a list of the more widely used HTML editors-

Adobe SiteMill

HoTMetal Pro

Macromedia Dreamweaver

Microsoft FrontPage

Web Authoring Tools Guidelines: The World Wide Web Consortium, or W3, is a group of leaders in Internet development. The guidelines encourage web-authoring tool manufacturers to include certain features in their products that will aid Internet users with disabilities. Web authoring tools must support basic accessibility protocol, create contain using standard markup, create accessible materials, contain accessibility editors and incorporate accessibility features within web content.

2.4 valuate the suitability of a selected range of commercial web authoring tools [P5]

Now-a-days there are many types of web authoring tools to use to create web pages or full site.

Following are the most used web authoring tools-

Adobe PageMill

GoLive CyberStudio

Macromedia Dreamweaver

Microsoft FrontPage

NetObjects Fusion and so on.

To create my web site I used Microsoft FrontPage 2003.

Microsoft FrontPage 2003: Microsoft FrontPage includes a WYSIWYG editor. Which provides frames and tables support, Microsoft Image Composer, Microsoft GIF Animator. FrontPage supports the addition of Cascading Style Sheet, browser plug-ins, database content, JavaScript, ActiveX controls, and Microsoft Visual Basic.

FrontPage 2003 makes advances in three key areas, improving FrontPage hosting experience-

Designing: Enhanced designs tools help produce better looking websites. Original layout and graphics tools make it easier to design accurately the site user want.

Coding: Design tools help generate better code. Built-in scripting tools allow user to write code more rapidly, more professionally, and with greater accuracy.

Extending: User can connect with information in new ways by building Extensible Mark-up Language data-driven sites using the first commercially available, completely WYSIWYG Extensible Style sheet Language Transformations editor.

3.7 Demonstrate that you have used a range of devices to collect graphical data. The students should keep in mind the protection and infringement of copyright [P7]

The web became so popular because images could be embedded inside web pages. Computer graphics fall into two categories:

Vector Graphics: Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves and polygons, which are based on mathematical equations. Vector graphics formats are complementary to raster graphics.

Used for computer generated images, line drawings, cartoons etc.

Examples:

WMF, EMF, PS, EPS, PDF, SVG

Bitmap Graphics: In computer graphics a bitmap or pixmap is a type of memory organization or image file format used to store digital images. The term bitmap comes from the computer programming terminology, a spatially mapped array of bits.

Used for photographs for web developing.

Examples:

GIF, PNG, JPEG

Gif Image Format: The Graphics Interchange Format is a bitmap image format. The format supports up to 8 bits per pixel allowing a single image to reference a palette of up to 256 distinct colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color space. It also supports animations and allows a separate palette of 256 colors for each frame.

Examples-

GIF image

Properties

Type: GIF images

Resolution: 116 Ã- 220 pixels

Size: 5.23KB

Color depth: 128-bit

Number of color: 256 per pixel

JPEG Image Format: JPEG is a commonly used method of lossy compression for photographic images. The degree of compression can be adjusted a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality.

GIFs and JPEGs differ in three important ways:

Color Depth: Gifs can contain only 256 colors while Jpeg can contain millions of colors.

Transparency: The JPG image format does not support transparency and transparent colors.

Animation: JPEG images do not support animation while Gif image do.

Example:

JPEG image

Properties

Figure 10: JPEG image

Type: JPEG images.

Resolution: 600x400 pixels

Size: 563KB

Color depth: 24-bit

Number of color: 16.7 million colors of per pixel

PNG Image Format: Portable Network Graphics is a bitmapped image format that employs lossless data compression. PNG improve upon and replace GIF as an image-file format.

PNG supports palette-based (palettes of 24-bit RGB or 32-bit RGBA colors), grayscale, RGB, or RGBA images. PNG was designed for transferring images on the Internet.

Example:

PNG image

Properties

Figure 11: PNG image

Type: PNG images

Resolution: 150 Ã- 120 pixels

Size: 2.11KB

Color depth: 24-bit

Number of color: 16.7 million colors of per pixel

The protection and infringement of copyright: It is very important to appreciate that copyright law is intended to prevent copying but does not provide a monopoly.

Copyright protects all of the following:

An author's original work.

Legitimate derivative works.

Material an author legally adds to already-copyrighted work

The selection, coordination, and arrangement of a compilation.

Copyright infringement: Copyright infringement occurs when a person copyright owner exploits one or more of the copyright owner's exclusive rights without the owner's permission. Such use is theft. It is called copyright piracy. Copyright law does not prevent infringement.

4.6Use a range of software tools to manipulate graphical data and incorporate it into linked pages. The students should state briefly what software tools to manipulate graphical data have been used and how it has been used. [P8]

4.1Use a web server to host an e-business website interface [P9]

Publishing with FTP or HTTP: FTP is one of the most common ways to upload files. Web server is running one of these technologies and it also supports FTP, we recommended publishing with HTTP instead. Publishing with FTP in this situation can cause some Web components to malfunction.

Steps for publish site with FTP:

Open a FrontPage Web site.

Go to Remote Web site view.

Set up Remote Web Site Properties.

Decide whether to use the Passive FTP option.

Publish files.

Open a FrontPage Web site:

The publishing features of FrontPage will not be available unless open a FrontPage Web site first.

Go to Remote Web site view:

Click the Web Site tab.

Click the Remote Web site button.

Then click Remote Web Site Properties to set up connection to the server.

Remote Web Site properties:

Select FTP as the remote Web server.

Remote Web site location box, type host name.

Hosting company provided one, type FTP directory here. Leave it blank if they didn't specify one.

Passive FTP: The Use Passive FTP check box is good to select for certain firewalls.

The Use Passive FTP check box may look pretty insignificant at first.

When using FTP, there are two connections that are made. FrontPage makes the first connection by connecting to the server.

The server makes the second connection between it and FrontPage. This is the connection that is used to actually publish files in either direction.

Select the Use Passive FTP check box. The server will not attempt to make the second connection. FrontPage will establish the second connection, and the publishing process can continue.

Publish files:

The remote site is the publishing destination for files.

Files with arrows are new and haven't been published yet.

Files with question marks are files in conflict. This sounds a little dramatic, but it just means that the file has been modified in both locations since the last time it was published.
