Hence, IT also can be the main platform for people to communicate each other around the world and in the early years of globalization, only few IT developers who really capable and brilliant enough to invent in IT development. When the IT developers start to explore and market their IT project in the business, without they realized, they have become an IT entrepreneur which is aligning IT in their business. As expected, they made a multi-billion dollar business by providing the newest IT products in the marketplace. When the globalization become more competitive, IT entrepreneurs have to prove their capabilities of innovating, introducing new technologies, increasing efficiency and productivity, generating new products or services in order to compete with other IT entrepreneurs. Some of them have proved it and no wonder they become really successful in the business.

Based on the topic given, find an entrepreneur who successfully has applied IT into his/her business, and tell us how he/she has done it; I decided to choose Bill Gates as my topic subject. This is because past all the years, we knew that Bill Gates is the co-founders of Microsoft with Paul Allen and the richest person in the world starts from 1995 to 2009 and steadily ranked top five richest people in the world to present. So, we will discuss more in the article about this spectacular IT entrepreneur.
As an introduction, William Henry Gates lll which is also known as Bill Gates is an American programmer, inventor, business magnate and philanthropist. He is the former executive and current chairman at Microsoft, the world's largest personal computer software company which he co-founded with Paul Allen. Since then, he became the richest person in the world start from 1995-2009 and steadily ranked top five richest people in the world to present as I mentioned before. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the position as Chief Executive of Operation (CEO) and chief software architect. Due to his successfulness of developed Microsoft, he became one of the best know entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution which totally change the world of information technology. His great journey and experiences in IT and business proven when he wrote a book "Business @ the Speed of Thought" that was published in 1999, and discusses how business and technology are integrated, and shows how digital infrastructures and information networks can help getting an edge on the competition.Even tough he has steeped down from CEO of Microsoft in January 2000, he remained as the chairman and created the position of chief software architect. In January 2006, Gates announced that he would be transitioning from full-time work at Microsoft to part time work in order to give full time attention to the foundation that he built and shared with his spouse, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates's last full-time day at Microsoft was June 27, 2008. He remains at Microsoft as non-executive chairman.
HOW IT IS STARTED?
Gates took an interest in programming the General Electric (GE) system BASIC using a block of computer time on General Electronic (GE) and Teletype Model 33 ASR terminal bought by the Mothers Club of the Lakeside school for the students' usage. Then, he wrote his first programming code which implemented by tic-tac-toe that allowed users to play games against the computer. He was really amazed by the machine and how he managed to execute the software code perfectly. Unfortunately, the Mothers Club running out of fund to buy the computer time, he and his schoolmates which are Paul Allen, Pic Weiland and Kent Evans decided to stole computer time of the system including DEC PDP minicomputer which is one of the system was PDP - 10 owned by Computer Center Corporation (CCC). Later, they banned or the summer after it caught them exploiting bugs in the operating system to obtain free computer time. Surprisingly, they were offered to find bugs in CCC's software in exchange for computer time. Gates studied the source code at CCC office for various software programs that ran on the system. This arrangement last until the company went out of business in 1970. Luckily, Information Science Inc. hired them to write about a payroll program in Cobol, so that they obtaining free computer time and royalties. He formed a venture with Paul Allen, called Traf-O-Data, to make traffic counters based on Intel 8008 processor. In 1974, Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) released MITS Altair 8800 based on Intel 8080 CPU, so Gates and Allen saw this is the perfect opportunity for them to start their own computer software company. Then, Gates contacted the MITS claimed that he and others are working on the basic interpreter for the platform and later, they managed to close a deal with MITS to distribute the interpreter as Altair Basic. So, that they were hired into MITS and named their partnership as "Micro-Soft" and officially registered the trade name as "Microsoft"on November 26, 1976.
Since the beginning, Microsoft's interpreter, Microsoft Basic was really popular among computer hobbyist, but Gates discovered that there is a pre-market copy had leaked into the community and being widely copied and distributed. As a solution, he wrote a letter to Open Letter Hobbyist in the MITS newsletter saying that MITS could not continue to produce, distribute, and maintain high-quality software without payment. Even the letter didn't get huge attention; Gates believed that software developers should be able to demand payment.Microsoft continued to develop language software for various systems after they got independent of MITS. During Microsoft's early years, all employees had broad responsibility for the company's business in order to save some expenses. Gates helps to oversee the business details himself, but continued to write code as well. In the first five years, Gates personally reviewed every line of code the company shipped, and often rewrote parts of it as he saw fit.
Microsoft starts to develop when IBM approached Microsoft in July 1980 for their upcoming brand new personal computer, IBM PC. Actually, IBM closed a deal with Microsoft because of they wants Microsoft to write the BASIC interpreter. Then, the IBM representative claims that they need an operational system, Gates referred them to Digital Research (DRI), which the makers of the widely used CP/M operating system. The meeting didn't went as they want, then the IBM asked Gates to get them an acceptable operating system which can be used to their personal computers. Later, Gates managed to offer them the similar operating system as CP/M that Tim Paterson of Seattle Computer Products (SCP) had made for hardware similar to the PC. As the result, Microsoft made a deal with SCP to become the exclusive licensing agent, and later the full owner, of 86-DOS. After adapting the operating system for the PC, Microsoft delivered it to IBM as PC-DOS in exchange for a one-time fee of $50,000. Gates believed that if he offered IBM to transfer the copyright on the operating system, the other hardware vendors will clone the IBM's system in order to save their cost as part of product and system development expenses. Then he make a decision by didn't offer IBM to transfer the copyright to their operating system. The plan goes really well and the sales of MS-DOS made Microsoft become the major player in the IT industry. Gates got oversaw Microsoft's company restructuring on June 25, 1981, which re-incorporated the company in Washington State and made Gates President of Microsoft and theChairman of the Board.
Then, Microsoft officially launched its retail version of Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985 and after the huge success of first version of the operating system deal with IBM, they tied in the new deal in developing the second version of it which is named OS/2. Unfortunately, the huge success of first version operating system cannot be repeated when both company have different level in creativity which prevent them to cooperated well so that they separated in 1991 and Gates led Microsoft to develop OS/2 version independently from IBM. Starts from that, Gates became the world's youngest self-made billionaire; he was worth $1.25 billion, over $900 million more than he'd been worth the year before, when he'd debuted on the list. Now, the number of licensed users of Windows now totals more than 25 million, making Windows the most popular graphical operating system in the world.
From Microsoft's founding in 1975 until 2006, Gates had primary responsibility for the company's product strategy. He aggressively broadened the company's range of products, and wherever Microsoft achieved a dominant position he vigorously defended it. As an executive, Gates met regularly with Microsoft's senior managers and program managers. First hand accounts of these meetings describe him as verbally combative, berating managers for perceived holes in their business strategies or proposals that placed the company's long-term interests at risk. He also has been described as a very sarcastic executive even when the presentation and something is not right for him; he will just say what he wants. So that, the managers who present have to defend the idea in details in order to make him convinced and accepted their proposal.
From the article above, we can see that Bill Gates is a really aggressive person who will do whatever he believed is right. He also is a true IT genius when he wrote his first programming code in 8th grade which implemented by tic-tac-toe that allowed users to play games against the computer. Then, he was really amazed by the machine and how he managed to execute the software code perfectly and it is really caught his interest to explore more in IT. Moreover, from what I've described about him before, I can see that he is the risk taker start from the beginning of his passion in IT. This matter can be proven when he bravely and fearless decided to stole computer time of the system including DEC PDP minicomputer which is one of the system was PDP - 10 owned by Computer Center Corporation (CCC) which caused him to be banned by CCC along with his schoolmates. Then, Gates risk taker personality can be seen when he decided to dropping out his education at one of the best university in the world, Harvard University in other to start up the IT business venture with his long time friend, Paul Allen called Traf-O-Data. When Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) released MITS Altair 8800 based on Intel 8080 CPU, so Gates and Allen saw this is the perfect opportunity for them to start their own computer software company and managed to closed deal with MITS which Gates and Allen later named their partnership as "Micro-Soft" and officially registered the trade name as "Microsoft" on November 26, 1976. Gates became more powerful when Microsoft combining with IBM in developing an operating system for IBM brand new personal computer, IBM PC. That time, he has been discovered as one of the major player in IT business. This phenomenon can be seen when he became the world's youngest self-made billionaire; he was worth $1.25 billion, over $900 million more than he'd been worth the year before, when he'd debuted on the list.Even he was already stepped down from CEO position in Microsoft and held a non-executive chairman, Gates still one of the richest people in the world with net worth US$ 66 billion in 2012 which is impossible to compete him as long as he keeps innovate on how to aligns IT in business and if he didn't stop what he started, no wonder he will become more richer in future.
As a conclusion, there are many examples of the successful entrepreneurs who align IT in their business and it is also shown that IT is really integrated with business. In addition, since the globalization keeps moving towards, it is make sense to believe that we will need more IT roles in future due to the unstoppable competition of innovation in IT world between IT entrepreneurs in order to stay in the right direction.
