The telecommunication industries growing rapidly and many new user friendly features are becoming more and more common. Most of the time to attract customers or increase the customers, mobile phone developers and telecom providers are focused on new features which are helpful to customers. This is very important in a country where there are more than one telecom providers. Even though there are a lot of competitions, but still many useful features or mobile phone applications need to be improved. This will help to attract more customers and to maintain the customers who already subscribed to a particular telecom provider. Therefore, making the phonebook's to a live phonebook will be a useful feature, so that contacts will be aware of the status of the contacts in his/her phonebook. Currently, we don't know the status of the contacts in the phonebook, so sometimes we call him/her unknowingly in a wrong time. Example, when he/she is busy, sleeping, and when the phone was switched off or out of range. This enhancement can be made easily as technology we are using is sufficient enough. Likewise, storing phonebook in multiple locations and updating when there is a change in the particular contact, which will be update in all locations. Therefore, storing telecom provider's network server could be suitable in this case and all contacts information can be stored on the network, thus redundancy is achieved and loosing contacts is minimized. As a result mobile phone user can access to the centralized phonebook whenever it is required. So changes can be made either in centralized location or remote locations (Mobile). The mobile's phone can keep a local copy of the phonebook for performance of it and also to overcome situations like when there is network server is inaccessible.
Telecommunication industries are grooving very fast in al over the world as internet and internet became part of mobile users. However, the need of improvement in telecom industries numerous and every telecom industries are taking advantage these improvements as they are important to increase customer base and make them to remain as a particular telecom subscribers.
So what is important is introducing new features to mobile users, thus many subscriber choose them and to make them stay in that particular network. This technique is widely used in mobile producers and telecom providers in order to attract many customers. As a result we all can see many types of multitasking mobile phones and many new applications on them and also many telecom providers are introducing many new beneficial features like family and friend features and many more.
Likewise, a new feature which is very useful to mobile customers could be active or live mobile phonebook. This could be done easily as technology is available to make this and many other applications are using them. Example, MSN live messenger or any other instant messaging programs are using them. These instant messaging software's are able to change their status so the other friends in his/her contact list can see it.
In the same way live or active phonebook can be made as in instant messaging software's as each registered users data base is stored in the servers. So phonebooks can be stored in the telecom provider's network server. The only thing is to make it dynamic and what ever done in the mobile phone user's phonebook can be stored and broadcast if the status has been changed to the contacts list.
The advantage of this phonebook is credited to the user and to the providers as well. For telecom providers it is an advantage because the customers would get satisfied with the service and many customers can be attracted to the service. Therefore, customer base can be increased. Also the network usage can be reduced as people will not page to others if he/she is busy or switched of thus reduce the network load.
This is useful to the mobile phone user's as it gives status of the contacts like "busy", "out of range", "switched off" and so on. Therefore, contact can text him/her instead if it is urgent matter. If it is not urgent he/she can call later when she/he is available to talk. Also we are aware of the status, thus disturbing friends or whoever is in your contact list in your phonebook is minimized.
In addition, the mobile phone user can recover the phonebook contacts when the mobile phone is lost. Therefore, loss of contacts list is minimized. Recovering phonebook contact list is provided in many telecom providers that means some telecom provider store our phonebook in their network servers. Therefore, this make an added advantage as investment to make a live phonebook is reduced.
The live phonebook is an application in the mobile. So the moment we open the live phonebook, it will sign in to his/her phonebook account located in the server. It only required a registered mobile number from the operator. We can make a local copy of the live phonebook so in a problematic condition we can use the local copy of the phonebook (the normal phonebook).
When the application (live phonebook) is open, the contacts status can be seen next to the contact name in another color. But this application can show only the contacts from the same operator only, because the Status Message is routed from the switch of the operator to the mobile devices thus the operator need permission from the competitor and have to pay for them.
Due to the above reason, the live phonebook is limited for same operator contacts in your phonebook. Therefore, status of the contacts from other operators cannot be seen. However, the operator can handle this issue the same way as they handle operator other operator calling method. But the operator will impose additional charge for this to happen.

This is the flow chart showing how the Status is broad casted to the contacts of the live phonebook. When the user opens the live phonebook application, it prompts the user to enter the status of the user if he wants to change. If he/she changes( else nothing will do) then the server will store the status and broad cast to the contacts who ever in the contact list after reading the contacts number.
This is the interaction diagram for the status change and broadcasting of the status to others who ever in the contacts list. As explained above in the flow chart the same thing will be done by the server.
This application will not coast much as this is simple application and most of the operator already has a server to store the phonebook in their customer mobile. Also the phonebook in a person mobile is not very big enough hence the storing will not require a huge hard which need to be installed in the server. Likewise the status which is broadcasted to through network is few bytes.
Therefore, it will not take a lot of loads to the network as network communicates with their mobile all the time to update the location by sending some commands where the location is updated. So the live phonebook commands can be broadcasted easily with giving not much load to the network.
The cost will be to install a server to the network and to maintain it, but which will not cost much as mentioned above. However, the benefit to the is more concerned as this is the main case flow to each operator and reducing network load is another benefit which saves a lot of money to the operator.
Future improvement works
As discussed above, the server is implemented in the particular telecommunication operator so it's not available to all mobile users. However, centralized server will solve this problem, where all the operators in that country can be used and all the mobile users will enjoy the benefits of live mobile phonebook.
Thus the network load of all operators will be reduced as most people will not page to a contact if the status of him/her is not suitable to do so. As a result all the mobile users will be aware of the status hence they unknowingly help to reduce the network load. Same way there can be many things operator can do to improve this application.
Another improvement is to enhance the application further, like making it much more interactive and making profile where the picture of each person can be uploaded if the user wants. Also a way to communicate without exchanging text to each other but providing it in the profile would sufficient enough to express it.
Also commenting features to particular status or his/her concerned can be another important enhancement in the near future. But these enhancements can be complicated enough and may cost more money. But we have to keep in mind that customers are major case flow to the operator, to satisfy the customer it is important to change the application as technology changes we have to use the new technology to attract them.
In conclusion the live phonebook gives great opportunities to the user as well as to the operator itself. The losing of mobile phonebook contacts will minimize by theft or any means and network load as well. So this will attract many customers and they are very important to maintain our case flow. Also the benefits are numerous in many ways like increasing case flow, reducing network load and attracting many new customers and to stay in that network. So to gain a benefit we always have to lose some penny. Also the application is not complicated enough to implement in any telecom operator network. Thus the cost is quite reasonable compare to the benefits they are gaining from this application. Hence this application will be one of the best applications for both operators and the customers.
