VMware player is an open source virtualization software package from VMware, Inc. The first version of VMware player was released in Dec 2005. VMware player comes under 32 bit and 64 bit architecture. VM player can be made to run on virtual widgets. VMware player lets the user to run a virtual machine on a windows or Linux pc. Using VMware player the user can run multiple operating systems at the same time on the PC with ease. VMware player has all the features that allow the user to tack together virtual machines for optimum performance and take advantage of host machines devices. Microsoft Virtual PC and Microsoft Virtual Server machines can be opened through VMware player while using it on Windows. It makes the VMware virtual machines accessible to partners, colleagues and other members who do not have VMware product. VMware player can be downloaded for free for Windows and Linux PC's. VMware player can be used to run a practical copy of an old PC so that the old PC can be recycled. There are three versions (VMware player 1.0, 2.0, 3.0) released till date.

It is available for free and the user is given privilege to use it in most of the languages. There is continuous release of new versions for every six months. The users can update it on a regular basis. Ubuntu is easy to install and use. Ubuntu has caught attention of many users with its best translations and infrastructure.
Installing Ubuntu & NS 2 in VMWare Player:
Ubuntu with NS2 package is installed with the help of VMware player. Ubuntu with NS2 package can be downloaded with ease from this link http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/va/496333/download. NS2 is licensed by VMWare for VMWare player to use under version 2 of the GNU General Public License. After the Ubuntu with NS2 VMware package is downloaded, the VMware player is opened then "Create a new virtual machine" option is clicked.

To start the installation process, the Ubuntu operating system file is browsed and opened. This is the simplest way to start the installation alternatively if Ubuntu operating system is available the disc is opened, the suitable disc is chosen and the next button is clicked to proceed.
We need to mentioned that which operating system being configured. We are using ubuntu, so we can choose ubuntu from the dropdown box.
Setting up Virtual Machine for VMware player
A name should be chosen for the virtual machine and the location should be mentioned and then next button is clicked to continue the installation process.
Naming the virtual machine
The disk space for Ubuntu package is allocated. The default size is of disk is 20GB, the size can be increased to hold loads of files.
In the next screen finish button is clicked to start the installation.
The installation process takes around 20 minutes. After the installation process, we can click the play virtual machine option. Then the login screen will appear.
The username and password is given in the login screen. After logging into the operating system we can start to work on NS2.
After the login process, we can check whether NS2 working correctly or not by using the terminal. I have given an example screen for that.
