Clean Up Prefetch Temp And Cache Files Computer Science Essay

Published:

This essay has been submitted by a student. This is not an example of the work written by our professional essay writers.

This section describes several optimizations aimed specifically at improving the way the operating system in the PC functions. The operating system is tied closely to the hardware in many ways. Some of the optimizations below include making changes to the disk cache in Operating system.

Clean up Prefetch, temp, and cache files

Windows stores a lot of temporary files that can be safely cleaned out once a month or so. This is also good to do before running virus or spy ware scans, as it clears many things out of our system that would need to be scanned.

How to: cleaning the unnecessary temporary files. Go to Run and write temp click ok and delete all the files and again write prefetch click ok then deleted all the files. Much software is able in the market. (We've gotten a lot of recommendations that cleaning the Prefect is unnecessary. Keep this in mind, but I still think Cleanup! It is a useful program.)

2. Remove Programs & files we no longer need or use

Having old games or other software we no longer use can take up a lot of space on our hard drive, which can lead to an overall decrease in our PC's performance.

How to: Removing old programs is easy. Go the Control Panel click on "Add or Remove Programs" Icon. We can safely remove programs like games, demos, and other software we no longer use. If we are not sure what a program is... don't delete it just yet. We can do an internet search to find out more about any mystery programs installed on our PC to decide to delete them or not.

Remember: Mp3 music files and videos we download can take up a lot of space. Go through our media files once a month or so and delete the ones we no longer use.

3. Turn off Windows Animations and Visual Effects

Fancy sliding, fading and animated effects that windows uses by default are easily turned off, and will make the reaction time of simple tasks like opening and moving windows, taskbars, etc...

How to: From the Control Panel, click on the "System" icon. Click on the advanced tab. Click the "Settings" button underneath "Performance". Uncheck the options related to animations, and other unneeded visual effects.

Personally, I only have 3 items checked in here: "smooth edges of screen fonts", "use common tasks in folders", and "use visual styles on windows and buttons". We can uncheck all of them if we like. But, just getting rid of all the animated features will help the responsiveness of our PC.

4. Remove unused Fonts

Having too many fonts can really slow down how fast program start up. Some people say have no more than 500 fonts installed on operating system, but I personally try to keep the number of fonts below 200. The less we have the faster our programs that use them (office software, graphic programs etc...) will load.

How to: From the Control Panel, click on the "Fonts" icon. We can delete the fonts we don't use here.

Remember: to keep the basics: Verdana, Arial, Times, Trebuchet, Courier, serif, sans-serif, Georgia, etc... Along with any fonts related to our business.

5. Get a Virus, Spy ware and Malware Clean System

Chances are we have some sort of virus, spy ware or mal ware on our computer.

How to: Get Aware and Skybox S&D in addition to a Firewall and Antivirus program.

Remember: Keep our anti-virus programs up-to-date. And always research any software we plan on downloading to "help" our PC. Some anti-virus / anti-spy ware software actually has spy ware.

Hope we found at least a few helpful pieces of information in this article. Thanks for stopping by Blifaloo.com, and don't forget to check out some of the other stuff on the site.

Common boot sequence Error codes

Common boot sequence Error codes is SYS02025.

1. Connect this drive to a computer that is already running a stable installation of Windows XP while it is turned OFF. If we have a desktop, I recommend installing the drive as a slave. If the only solution is to use an adapter with a USB or Firewire connection, I cannot verify that this technique will work. It is better to have more solid connection.

2. Boot the Computer. Now hopefully, even if the BIOS reads the drive funny, Windows may take over when it starts to load and recognize that the drive is there and that it has a problem prompting Check Disk to run. **note** If this happens, we should start getting a positive attitude, and send some good vibes to the drive to help with the healing process. If check disk does not run at bootup, run it after Windows Loads

3.) After successfully making it through the disk check, and celebrating all of the fixed errors, shutdown that PC and install that drive back nto the original computer as the Boot disk. Remember to follow the instructions in my post above!

4.) Start the Computer and BOOT from a CD to load the recovery console. Run these commands: Chkdsk /r (yes AGAIN!) then FIX MBR, followed by FIXBOOT

5.) Now reboot the computer normally, and crack a cold beer :)

Common boot sequence Error codes is "SYS01475"

Turning on the computer - power good signal from power-supply

Power On Self Test ( POST ) by the BIOS

Loading the Bootstrap program in the BR - OS/2!! SYS01475

OS2BOOT Loads the operating system loader (skipped with Veits OS2LDR.SEK)

OS2LDR loads the operating system (kernel)

Processing the CONFIG.SYS file

the system is in real mode and process the BASEDEV statements

After processing the last Basedev= *.DMD statement, the system switch to protected mode

START and RUN statements execute from config.sys

The main SHELL, either the Workplace Shell + STARTUP.CMD or just CMD.EXE are started

The Boot process is complete

Common boot sequence Error codes is "SYS01463"

Well, ends up boot manager is giving me the sys01463, I set the eCS Partion as startable and the the system now boots the HD with more problems. I never got to the second stage of installation (system booted from HD)

Line 82 config.sys D:\OS2\boot\com.sys not installed hit enter, boot continues.

when it starts to load network connection driver, shows a couple of buffer lines, then stops.

I tried to reinstall without networking support (should have just used rem instead)

Now it stops at IBMCOM\MACS\NULLNDIS

BTW, I am using a SATA hard drive.

Common boot sequence Error codes is "SYS02027"

To resolve this issue, consider the following steps:

Boot up the computer with a Microsoft Windows 98 boot up disk or Windows XP recovery console. Select the correct bootup device before we do that.

At the DOS command prompt, type in: fdisk

Now, we will be prompted with the following question

Do we wish to enlarge large disk support (Y/N)?

Enter: Y

Now to check for active partition, enter: 2

Look under the Status column. The active partition is usually assigned to the drive which contains our operating system.

If there's no active partition set, enter the number of the partition to make active

Restart our computer and the problem should be resolved.

Pros and Cons of Wireless Internet Connectivity

Wireless internet used since the time of World War II has become a part of today's life, be it a student or a professional, the use of Internet has been so very popular. Also there are various types of Internet connection and one such type is the wireless Internet connection.

There are various types of wireless Internet connection like Wireless LAN, Global System for Mobile Communication or rather GSM, personal communication service, Wi-Fi, D-AMPS, Fixed wireless data and more. Wireless LAN uses radio signals to transmit data between computers while the GSM uses mobile phone.

Wireless Internet has its pros as well as has some cons also.

Pros of Wireless Internet

The chief advantage of wireless network is that it helps in avoiding those muddled cable wires. Another key benefit of using this Internet connection is that it is the best and the easiest way to communicate or send some data overseas within fraction of a second. A significant advantage of using wireless Internet is that we can easily roam around from place to place accessing the Internet wherever we go.

Cons of Wireless Internet

The main disadvantage of wireless Internet is that it is comparatively slow than other networks. Another key factor that affects the wireless connectivity is called the 'multi path effect'. This occurs when several signals from the same source is received by our antenna. This will affect the reception strength and also will not give us the desired result. Another disadvantage of wireless connectivity is the safely, this Internet connection is not very safe as anyone can break through the signals and there are possibilities that we lose some of our important data.

The more the pros of using wireless Internet, the more the risk factor involved in it. While using wireless Internet we have to make sure that our network is protected so that others cannot connect to our network.
