A role-playing game for android device which has a story of Philippines mythology, ghosts and urban legends which is unique and gives fun, and relaxation at the same time with a story of each provinces mythologies, ghost and urban legends in the Philippines.
This is what the researcher want to developed to encourage exploration, logical thinking, strategy, and entertainment through playing RPG for android phones.
Statement of the Problem
This game concept is what the researcher have chosen because the researcher want to develop a Filipino-themed game, a 2D Role-playing game that will give idea or information about Philippine mythology, ghosts and urban legends. The researcher will develop a 2D game that will be available for android phone users.
In order for the researcher to effectively develop such android game, here are some questions that this paper hopes to answer:
- What are the input variables in developing and implementing “Aswang Chronicles (Informative RPG of Philippine Mythology)”?
What are the design consideration for the development of mobile game in terms of:
- Data structure;
- Architectural design; and
- Code optimization?
- What are the hardware and software requirements in developing “Aswang Chronicles (Informative RPG of Philippine Mythology)”?
What is the level of acceptance of “Aswang Chronicles (Informative RPG of Philippine Mythology)” in terms of the following?
- Gameplay; and
Scope and Limitations
The 2D game is an android-based device application in which a player explore each location with their different mythical creatures. As a player roam in the game, stories of myths, ghosts and urban legends will be told. Player’s character can move in four directions (up, left, down, right). As they roam on the game (serves as the stage/level), players can encounter creatures or monsters. The players roam until they reach and encounter the province’s mythical creatures, ghosts or urban legends (bosses) to be able to proceed to the next level. The game is a tile-based map where characters are roaming provinces.
Significance of the Study
The main objective why the researcher will develop this application is to create a mobile role-playing game which has an originality and having a Filipino concept. By using this application the players will enjoy a Filipino mobile game. It will also give a contribution to the following:
Computer Science Students. This will give a knowledge, ideas or techniques for student on developing applications.
Game enthusiasts. The dedicated players of virtual games, contribute them a new experience by a Filipino theme role-playing game.
Future Developers. This study will empathize and anticipate the needs of future developers to improve this study or other studies for future generation.
Definition of Terms
During the study, the following terms were used and defined:
Android. A mobile operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.
Android Virtual Device. A virtual device that runs on a computer that run and test android applications/programs.
Application. An application usually refers to a computer program that runs on a platform.
Artificial Intelligence. The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior. Programming computers to make decisions in real-life situations.
Database. An updatable storage of information of an application's world and managing software that conceals from the user the physical aspects of information storage and information representation.
Database Management System (DBMS). A special program designed to store multiple number of database and can interact with a user.
Framework. A framework is a structure for supporting or enclosing something else, especially a skeletal support used as the basis for something being constructed.
JAVA. A concurrent, class-based, object-oriented, and specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible.
Role-playing game. A game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting.
Software. A set of programs, which is designed to perform a well-defined function.
Workspace. An environment used to build and test application.
