Augmented reality is a "merging form" (Yuen, Yaoyuneyong, & Johnson, 2011) between real world and virtual world that generated by computer that augmented the scene with extra information. In this project, real world is the place that needs to decorate meanwhile the virtual world is the furniture that needs to use in decorating.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

According to Tekkaya (2001) in "What makes biology learning difficult and effective: Students' views" by Atilla Çimer (2011) found that many concepts and topics in biology such as genes, mitosis, raspitory system, circulatory system and nervous system are difficult to learn by secondary students. Biology includes many abstract concept and phenomena that require observation; therefore participants should see what they are learning. According to Çimer (2007) teaching and learning of biology may become more effective if the teachers use various visual teaching and learning material and tools, such as figures model, computer simulation, video, 3-D materials, and real life objects.Judy Bloxham sees that AR as a real opportunity for colleges and universities, not only as a way to market and promote themselves, but as a way to communicate with learners and improve the student experience (Bloxham, 2013). Research done by Hamilton,P (2012) on teaching Mathematics using augmented reality using iPad on his Year 4 students founds that the student amused , amazed and obtain more understand on the topic. LITERITURE REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

In this chapter, various information sources related to the research are reviewed. The literatures discussed on the issues regarding augmented reality, interior decoration and the valuable information about technique researchers used on their researches. This chapter provides an overview and critical analysis of relevant articles, research reports, books, thesis on the topic or issue to be investigated.

2.1 AUGMENTED REALITY

2.1.1 Definition of Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. (Graham, Zook, & Boulton, 2012)It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one's current perception of reality.

Augmented reality in abbreviated as AR is a type of virtual reality which is replica of world's environment in a computer. It is an "merging form" (Yuen, Yaoyuneyong, & Johnson, 2011) between real world and virtual world that generated by computer that augmented the scene with extra information. In other words the way augmented reality generate the virtual world is likely "the way its users see the world" (Bonsor) . Augmented reality not just can produce 2D and 3D object, it also can play the video, music and textual information. According (Kaufmann, 2003;Zhou, Duh & Billinghurst,2008) merging of real scene and virtual elements, which are can be interact in real-time and it implement in 3D , these are characteristic of AR. User can see the real environment with emerging virtual object through AR (Azuma).

Virtual reality is an environment that created by human to make it believable to the user which is doesn't exists in the physical world. In this project, the environment is real environment which is real world and the object or furniture is the virtual reality. AR is very helpful to the human especially in medical surgeon. During training the virtual reality can help learner by remind of the required step by without refer the instruction in manual book (Azuma). The opposite of the real world is virtual world in which all the information were generated by computer and completely not related to real world such as location and objects. Diagram 1.2.1 is Reality Virtuality Continuum (Milgram, P.H Takemura, 1994) the augmented environment is closer to real world, meanwhile virtual environment is totally simulated by computer. Between augmented reality and augmented virtuality called as Mixed Reality environment which is a real scene and virtual scene object are present merge of the scene into one single display.

2.1.3 Benefits of augmented reality

Usually people will look product through from the catalog or else, but by using augmented reality user can have experience "feel more connected and engaged" (Shannon, 2013). AR much more easy to use because people feel like they are working with real, each of objects and the connection to reality reduces sensory confusion in daily life It's good for student to improve their concentration and understanding. Science is one of common subject that been learn in school, some experiment need material that may be harmful or fragile or expensive, dangerous to be exposed to a large number of student. To solve this kind of problem those material can be placed into virtual object or in context to the real world which is it can to maximize impact, engagement and also interaction. According to Henderson (2009), through qualitative survey had been made mechanic found that augmented reality much more intuitive and satisfying. AR is cheaper because AR and VR only need to 3D tracking to find where real objects are in the world and render virtual.AR only track by analyze the video from a small camera, this only cost about below RM100 .
