Supply chain management is a major part of market competitive edge. Now a retail business is a competition market. Lots of business wants to increase their profit by making their tag famous and make the business supply chain rule and make their own shop in the high street retail. So they can make more profit. My research is based on the retail market which shows that the supply chain policies make the high street retailer more good business than the other plan. Among the fast-paced industries, retail accounts for over 8% of Pakistan's GDP and 8% of total employment. It is expected to grow by 9.5% annually. But have you ever wondered which the backbone of this retail sector is? What keeps this sector organized by sending the products to the place where it is required or other activities involved in it? It is the supply sector. Supply chain is the most vital organ of the retail management system. The social changes that have been brought about by economic growth cry for more and better goods in terms of global standards at reasonable prices on scheduled time with no break in availability

RATIONAL:

My research based on the retail sector use the supply chain management policies. For these retailers, supply chain is a planned differentiator that delivers a competitive edge. No longer just concerned about cost control, companies view supply chain as a key element of their business strategy. Today's supply chain leaders are working with their business partners to design, develop, move, store, sell and service their products with ever greater speed and economy. Now, more than ever, supply chains are regarded as sources of business value and competitive advantage.

CONCEPTUAL INTERPINING:

This research topic is a best way to identify the use of supply chain in the retail business. It based on the basic theories of supply chain. from the academic book and the journal give me the theory of the supply chain is helpful for retail business. And the literature review get from the online books.

Literature review:

While the retail sector has always been very competitive, in recent years, the competitive nature of the field has increased dramatically. Customers too have become more exacting, demanding ever-increasing levels of service. Retailers have responded by increasing the variety of their products, becoming more prices competitive, striving towards higher service levels, and utilizing advances in computing capabilities and information technologies to improve their supply chain efficiency. However, these developments have also greatly increased the complexity of managing the retail business environment. Consequently, most retailers have struggled to maintain profitability.

With an estimated 150 million consumers, Pakistan is the world's ninth largest market. Economic growth, which averaged about 5 percent annually for the past decade. One of the major objectives of Pakistan's year-old military government is to restore investor confidence and to implement broad economic reforms, with the aim of stimulating growth. Although per capita income remains low (about $450), there is a large and growing consumer class (estimated at about 25 percent of the total population). The average Pakistani consumer spends 42% of her income on food.

Major changes are beginning to occur in Pakistan's food retail sector. The total number of retail food outlets expanded by about 15 percent during the past decade to an estimated 286,774 outlets today. The value of processed retail food sales has grown 12 percent annually during the past decade and currently is estimated at about $1.1 billion. Traditional markets (small, independent shops) comprise about 60% of all outlets and sell an estimated $500 million in processed food products annually. "Wet" markets comprise about 30% of retail outlets and are responsible for about $275 million in annually sales, while semi supermarkets and supermarkets comprise about 10% of all food retail outlets and have estimated sales of $325 million annually. In addition, numerous western-style fast food chains have opened in Pakistan and are becoming increasingly popular.

PURPOSE:

The aim of this proposal is to collect a comprehensive data for the research in order to make useful recommendation for implementing supply chain concepts. The research also aims to explore the understanding of building supply chain in order to strengthen the business development in depth. There are three objectives for this proposal research study is: (i) to examine theoretical framework and conceptual models in relation to supply chain and (ii) to investigate competitive advantage and core competencies of supply chain; and (iii) to identify the organisation change is required to support supply chain by retail sector.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

The research is based on three research objectives to collect data which derive three research questions. They are:

To what extent does supply chain can improve retail sector performance?

How supply chain strategies increase benefits for shareholders of retail business?

How can company improve competitive advantage and core competency in implementing supply chain strategy in retail sector?

SCOPE:

The rising boom in the retail industry has led many academic institutions in Pakistan to offer Retail Management course. Retail Management is a professional program which prepares graduates to enter in the field of retailing. There is a huge demand for retail management professionals for processing of all merchandise shipments, achieving store sales and profitability, communication with the clients to gain their satisfaction and administration of stores. Retail is all about distribution of the product from the manufacturer to the consumers through short and convenient channels.

A retail management course from reputed career institutes may fetch a dream job. With the spurt of shopping malls and departmental stores, huge employment opportunities are opening up in Pakistan and abroad. Doing MBA is this topic from UWIC (UK) gives me a great scope in my future. I can get myself as my dream.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHODS

This section is to explain the research methods that will be chosen for the research development. An effective research method can increase data's validity and reliability. There are two commonly research methods which are often used by student. They are: qualitative method; and qualitative method. A qualitative method, sometimes, is also called a phenomenological research paradigm. A quantitative method also has same characteristics to a positivism research theory. A theory is a set of beliefs which deals with its principles (Guba and Lincoln, 1994). A theory explains the views of the scientist stance and a series of possible variables which relate to each others. This proposal is aimed to use a qualitative research method. It is because the nature of the research study is suitable for a qualitative research. A qualitative research is suitable for a retail sector research (Saunders et al, 2007), especially relates to business and management areas (Saunders et al, 2009). The researcher will be given limited to complete the research study. The researcher, therefore, must adopt an effective research method in order to achieve a high level of validity and reliability. According to Smith (1986), a qualitative research can achieve 80% of a better time saving to compare with a quantitative research. Moreover, a qualitative research method contains a high level of subjective view. A qualitative research method is based on individual views and opinions that have experience in a particular area. Hence, interview method is used to collect the data.

A quantitative method is not suitable for the research development. It is because a quantitative method involves strong objective view (Hussey and Hussey, 1997). A quantitative research involves a large sample to collect data. A quantitative research involves scientific and statistical calculations (Hussey and Hussey, 1997; Saunders et al, 2007; 2003). This often involves a series time approach or a panel data to analyse the correlations within variables. A quantitative research is suitable for an experimental research which is based on historical data to justify the outcomes. Using historical data may not be sufficient to make recommendation for implementing supply chain for retail sector.

DATA SAMPLING

A sample of 10 managers will be selected from Retail manager. The sample is relatively small. Saunders et al (2007) cited that a qualitative method allows a small sample to represent a particular case for collecting the specific data. The purpose of selecting managers for interviews is because they have knowledge in supply chain. They know and are familiar the situation of Nan Sam organizational structure. The sample will be based on a non probability sampling. It is because anon probability sampling is more subjective view.

DATA COLLECTION

The data collection is based on primary data and secondary data to justify the outcome.

PRIMARY DATA

Primary data will be based on interview data which represents the data are collected for the first time as a rough data. The data will consist of 10 questions ad 10 managerial staff will be selected for interview. The answers will be collected based on both open and close ended questions.

SECONDARY DATA

Secondary data are based on the data which are available in the libraries and the company. The data may include various sources, which are books, journals, newspapers, articles and internet sources. The secondary data will be based on a large pool of data and narrow down to the related area.

QUESTIONNAIRES

A set of 10 questions will be designed for interviews. Questions will be based on both open and closed ended questions. The close ended questions are to provide the opportunity for interviewees to explore their knowledge and experience in the areas of supply chain. The close ended questions are to collect specific areas that can identify effective factors for building supply chain. A pilot study will be used to ensure that all interviewees understand the meaning of questions.

INTERVIEWS

Interviews are based on the managerial group from Retail sector. Interview. Appointments will be made earlier. This will give more time for interviewees to prepare the answers. Interviews will be based on a semi structure interview (Saunders et al, 2007). Interviews will be based on telephone interviews. The research will use an international calling card to conduct interviews. All interviews will be taken 20 minutes approximately

DATA ANALYSIS :

The research is based on a qualitative research which is based on an inductive research approach to collect the data. Hence the grounded theory is used to develop the data analysis. The researcher aims to make use the ground theory concepts in order to fit theory in one dataset. The ground theory is based on a case study in relation to the issues of supply chain. The idea of ground theory is to read and re-read which will be based on a textual database in relation to supply chain and will find out the relationships between variables. The researcher will use theoretical sensitivity which is base various things, including the use of literature and research technique to enhance sensitivity. Grounded theory is a research method and approach which is based on qualitative research. A qualitative research contains a non standard data which do not require any hypothesis text. It is purely based on observation to find the gap in order to develop new theory. A ground theory, therefore, is likely based on holistic view.

The research will be used a qualitative research method to collect data. Data are both primary data and secondary data which are based the research objectives to justify the outcomes the research questions will be answered after the discussion section. A section of discussion section is used to analyse specific areas that can be used for recommendation. Three recommendations will be made that supply chain strategies will be use in retail sector.

ACCESS:

For primary data we need access but for the research we basically use secondary data more. Primary data we collect from the retail sector manager. They give me easy access for my job experiences and for my profile. And for secondary data we collect from internet or from UWIC library and some news paper, some journal for this we also get the access so the data what we get it will helpful to do my research. And it also helps me to fulfil my question answer.

GANTT CHART:

Gantt chart is a type of bar chart for the specific projected work plan in a certain time schedule. We doing research in a retail sector for this reason we have to make a proper chart to do the research properly and let the work finish with in the time period. Gantt chart is very helpful to finish my work with the projected time and we also get a review of work and also what we have to do with this time period. So without Gantt chart a research will be a Pilot less plane. So Gantt chart is most helpful part of research.
