Sams Chicken And The Employee Job Satisfaction Commerce Essay

Published:

This essay has been submitted by a student. This is not an example of the work written by our professional essay writers.

Sam's started in operation in 1990 with its first restaurant in Wealdstone, Harrow, and Middlesex. It has expanded since then to more than 30 outlets nationwide though its main presence is in London.

As with Kentucky Fried Chicken and similar operations, the secret mix of spices that goes into the flour preparation and the process of cooking that gives the crispy golden brown chicken product lines, which holds the key to its business success.

Sam's has expanded so far through franchising its successful product. To ensure that the quality and service that has come to be associated with Sam's are maintained by the new franchisees, the expansion is being carefully planned and managed.

Initially our menu was a scaled down version of today's menu and was not representative of our 'sell all miss none' philosophy of now - we started small and tested thoroughly. Importantly, however, it did represent how British society was changing in general that could only be described in one word - fusion. By combining traditional western fast food products with the rich, intense flavours of the east we were able to create a menu and cuisine unparalleled in the industry by offering fresh ideas loved by diverse communities.

It was this idea of fusing different tastes from a variety of cultures and the use of Halal meat that guaranteed Sam's chicken was able to present products to the public that didn't exclude any community, offering those much loved spicy variants for customers as well as the usual products expected from outlets such as ours.

Sam's chicken product line is prepared following a special method of food preparation, which involves the breading of the fresh chicken pieces with a secret blend of seasoning or breading-mix before it is slow-roasted at an appropriate temperature to ensure that the chicken pieces retain the natural juices and flavour, and so remain succulent on the inside. However, the breading mix and cooking style helps develop a crispy, golden brown coat on the chicken piece. This gives the customer a more satisfying experience in eating the product. The Sam's facebook and customer emails bears witness to this fact.

This is an essential ingredient for success. Sam's takes this so seriously. It ensures that all store supplies are from vendors that have satisfied the quality standards stipulated by Sam's. This also helps keep costs down by ensuring higher volumes from a selected few suppliers. Sam's ensures that the stores receive the benefits of its suppliers by incorporating a requirement that it supplies all store supplies.

To ensure that the customers have an enjoyable experience whether when they visit our takeaway or restaurants, the team serving the customers are put through a rigorous training regime and are regularly checked to ensure they maintain the required level of service and conduct at all times. All stores would be visited without advance warning at any time to ensure the standards are maintained at all times by any of Sam's appointed personnel as a "Mystery Customer".

Task 2

Literature review

One of the largest Food Services providers in the United States contacted NBRI to assess employee satisfaction, which was suspected to be the cause of the high employee absenteeism. All other, more tangible factors had been ruled out.

An NBRI Employee Satisfaction Survey was deployed in 48 States and three languages, resulting in an 85% response rate and a 99% Confidence Level. Management could be certain that the results of the employee survey truly represented the thinking of the employee population.

Low job satisfaction was evident, and the NBRI Root Cause Analysis indicated that employees were disconnected from the organization's short and long term goals, vision, and mission. NBRI recommended numerous interventions to communicate management's strategic plans to the lowest level employee, and reinforce their practice in each employee's daily activities. Subsequent employee survey results showed significant increases on related survey questions, which impacted Total Company Employee Satisfaction dramatically. Employee Satisfaction Scores changed from being a Weakness (below the 50th percentile of the NBRI Normative Database) to being Strength (above the 75th percentile of the NBRI Normative Database) in only six months. More importantly, employee absenteeism was reduced by more than 60%.

Employee satisfaction surveys provide the information needed to improve levels of productivity, job satisfaction, and loyalty. Organizations can identify the root causes of job issues and create solutions for improvements with an accurate perspective of employee views. These root causes can be identified using NBRI's employee satisfaction survey.

Discover what motivates people, what drives loyalty, and what genuinely makes and keeps your employees happy. Satisfaction levels will increase when employees know that their issues are being addressed. There is a direct link between employee satisfaction and financial results.

The tough job market of the past two years has made life very difficult for those who are either unemployed or underemployed. And so you might think that your employees, because they have jobs, would be ecstatic. They aren't. While no doubt grateful for a pay check, U.S. workers are actually less satisfied than they've been in many years.

A November 2003 survey by CareerBuilder, a leading job-search Web site, documents the extent of this dissatisfaction. The survey found that nearly one in four workers are now dissatisfied with their jobs, a 20 percent increase over 2001 levels, with some six out of ten workers planning to leave their current employer for other pursuits within the next two years. A similar survey by the Society for Human Resource Professionals revealed that more than eight out of ten workers intend to look for a new job when the economy heats up.

As an employer, you have good reason to be concerned about findings like these. A recent Ernst & Young survey calculated that the cost of replacing a high-level employee may be as much as 150 percent of that departing employee's salary. And matters could become worse very quickly. While the economy continues to rebound, existing workers will find job-hopping an increasingly viable option. And if predictions of widespread worker shortages by the latter half of the decade come true, these conditions will only be exacerbated.

Every organization should give priority on the satisfaction of the employee. Satisfied employees are the productive and motivated employee. All the resource is mobilized by the employee so they should be satisfied from the every corner of their life.

2.1 Data presentation and analysis

The research is based on the response of 10 employees according to the designed questionnaire. The questioner is designed as closed ended questionnaire that considers 10 job satisfaction dimensions. The dimensions which I have focused are as follow.

Pay rate of the employee

Working environment in the organization

Relation with co-workers

Employee stress level

Communication

Customers behaviour on the job

Extra-benefits

Motivation level

Self esteem

Management relation with employee

As of the nature of the questioner most of the questioner has four options and the respondent on that option. The questionnaire is attached to this research paper at the attach section. The respondent needs to select one option for each question.

Here are the tabular presentations of the questioner

Employee of the Sam's chicken regarding to their working environment shows that the satisfaction level of the employee is high.

Besides from the above analysis there are the behavioural aspect of the employee is serious. They are not satisfied with their current job but they can't express their views publicly.

3.1 Evaluation of research methodology, and critical analysis of findings.

For the purpose of the research methodology both primary as well as the secondary data were collected. But the efficiency of the secondary data is not sufficient for the research purpose so it is not used. Being a small topic and the sample size for the primary data is small and procedure for the primary data collection is not much difficult. All together the sample size of the primary data is 10 respondents and asks the questioner within the boundary of the topic.

From the research it shows that the employee satisfaction towards their job is satisfactory but their psychology and the body language shows that they were not as much satisfied as they explain.

Because of the limited time the research could not cover the big population size.

Resource is also one barrier for the findings of research.

Communication skills of the respondent also affect the findings for the research.

Respondent behaviour towards the researcher on the questioner is not so much favourable because they do not want to reply the question.

Because of the question pattern respondent could not deliver their views. Because the questioner is close ended.

Because of the circumstances around the researcher motivation level is low.

3.2 Recommendation on the findings

From the above finding the Sam's chicken have to improve their working environment working hours and many other variables related to employee. Here are some other steps you can take to boost your workers' loyalty and dedication while reducing turnover:

Delegate responsibility to the employee: To increase the motivation level of the employee delegation of the authority is essential. Because of the responsibility they feel self pride and motivate them and encourage towards the goal. In the sam's chicken there are cook, helper and cleaner. There is not any jargons on delivering the authority and responsibility to the employee because if the authority makes the employee responsible for the job. Authority can be delegate from top to bottom so that their level will be increased.

Respect of the employee: The management should respect the employee job and respect their performance.  Its little wonder so many workers seem ready to jump ship at the first sign of opportunity. On the other hand, companies that truly value their employees earn more than gratitude-they win enhanced dedication and productivity as well. So the management must be sure to show your employees how much you respect and value them-tell them how much you appreciate them, throw them a pizza party, recognize an employee of the month, do anything you can to show them how much you care.

Recognize the whole person. The management should recognize the total employee not the person of 8 hours working guy. All workers have their own lives, interests, and friends and family outside the office-and most are constantly struggling to balance increasingly hectic schedules. While companies can't sacrifice unduly to the whims of a single individual, making concessions where possible-allowing a long lunch break to attend a child's school event, for instance, or permitting a sales executive to fly out on Monday morning instead of Sunday night-can pay huge dividends in the long run.

Mark out a clear path to growth. Some employees are content to remain where they are in an organization, but most want to grow in their careers over time. Because of the economy employee needs more job for their life.

Flexible working hours: If the employee will be provided a flexible working they can work accordingly. There is rush in the lunch hours so the requirement of the employee is more so they can hire extra people for the rush hours.

Here are other recommendations from the research.

There are lots of other rival food chain restaurants in the area they have to face the tough competition so the employee should be more dedicated towards the service of the restaurant. Other fast food giants like KFC, Taco bells, burger kings, Sam's chicken etc. are continuously bringing improvement in fast food sectors. So Sam's chicken should improve employee related issues to achieve the best performance from the employee. It needs to apply tools and technique to maintain satisfaction level of the employee. The Sam's chicken should consider the following aspects to improvise its employee satisfaction level.

The pay rate should be increased according to the performance and the current economy status of the employee.

To motivate the employee in the work place different tools can be used to increase their performance. Because motivated employees are productive employee. There should be good flow of communication horizontally and vertically.

The management should be supportive to the employee and help them to solve their problems so that the stress level can be minimized. The restaurant should know that only stress free employee can work smoothly in productive manner.

The restaurant should create management friendly relation within the members of the restaurant and outsiders.

There should be extra activities to make the employee encourage achieving the goal of sam's chicken.

There should be some plan for the future security of the employee so that they do not worry about their dependents in the future.
