In recent years, the Concept of Knowledge Management is popular and attracts the attention of many organizations and enterprises in Vietnam. The concept of knowledge management is new concept for Vietnam's economy, but it was the developed countries over the world to apply successfully.

According to many definitions, knowledge is all of things that people learn, understand and know. What people feel through the objective reality is the raw data. Processed, this data is converted into information. However, the information still exists independently of human thinking. When people receive information, process information, understand and research, after that the information into their own knowledge. That explains why the same amount of information but each individual has different knowledge. Knowledge of two types: explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge. Explicit knowledge is knowledge codified in the text, documents, or report, they can be conveyed in the official language and system, while the tacit knowledge is knowledge which is very difficult and not codified in written documents, this knowledge is personal, context and tied to specific jobs. Tacit knowledge is very difficult to form the document, but is running high in the human brain.

ŸThe distinction between explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge are expressed through map:

Explicit Knowledge

Tacit Knowledge

Easy systematization

Able to transfer, convey

To express and share easily

Difficulty in formalizing

It is difficult to receive, communicate and share

The operating guidelines

The policies and procedures of the organization

The reports and databases

The business processes and informal communication

The personal experience

The historical understanding

Based on the knowledge and apply that knowledge, creativity emerging and it brings concrete results which service human life. The concept of knowledge management may be new but the essence is not too confusing. It is the process of creation, capture, store, share, develop, and make use of knowledge exists in the organization become the material values. Activities include efforts to turn individual knowledge into the organization's knowledge, everyone can exploit and use for common development.

There are many forms of knowledge management, possibly including the following:

- Evaluation and use the results of operations to acquire knowledge through training.

- Building up a database / knowledge of the organization, allowing employees to access for timely decision making.

- To organize activities to share knowledge internally as sharing community, internal seminars...

It is important that the knowledge management efforts are directed toward the final goal to create products / services to meet customer requirements, improving competitiveness through reducing waste generated by Knowledge is not shared, the failure is not analytical, draw on the experience, the error is repeated ... That is the application process and turning knowledge into useful value to the organization.

In addition, it also means continually receiving knowledge from outside, possibly through training, learning from customers, partners, suppliers, customers and even competitors through building model of organizations always learning. Moreover, knowledge management also means that management information is meaningful and useful management and technologies that help people form knowledge. Ultimate goal of knowledge management is to minimize the risk of jumping job, promote and develop staff performance, adding value and corporate image.

Many companies are finding that an employee leaves the company for any reason will affect the activities of organizations and may even suspend a stage where he is responsible. Simple reason that he brought all the experience and knowledge to perform the job. Many organizations spend hundreds of millions training employees per year. However, the knowledge that employees have received from training, it bringing value to the company or not, very few organizations have been calculated. The waste also shows very clearly the amount of time spent looking for practical knowledge that already exists in the organization was great. The lack of knowledge to answer customer and respond quickly to market and cause damage to business operations, as for the research and development without the participation of many sources of knowledge: from knowledge about products to customer requirements and market will be more difficult to achieve success. On the other hand, the failure didn't withdraw experience and shared, it is the source for subsequent failures. That is why every business needs to have appropriate strategies for developing knowledge management in today's business conditions.

The most important factors in knowledge management is knowledge sharing. People often think knowledge is power. Everyone wants to keep something as their own strengths, do not want to share with others. Therefore, a prerequisite is to create an environment or culture of knowledge sharing in the business.

The role of leadership is extremely important in creating that environment. Not only to encourage and recognize knowledge sharing, managers must actively participate in knowledge sharing in a positive direction in addition to employee development and internal knowledge sources. This process not only enrich the knowledge of individuals but also as motivation for continuous learning.

Currently, many organizations have many individuals who willing to share their knowledge and receive knowledge from others, but sometimes they do not know what to share with whom, when to share and share like. Thus, needs to a mechanism to knowledge nurtured, share, develop and use consistent with the objectives of the organization. This mechanism must also express the recognition, reward (a physical or mental) for the sharing (of individuals or departments). About formal, mechanism can be expressed as procedures or guideline, are published widely across the organization. Finally, to share activities, takes place efficiently, the indispensable role of IT. IT support role, making the sharing, storing, updating and using knowledge is made easier. For example, for a company with offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is to share knowledge directly (through such meetings) between the two places will "consume" a lot of costs, while the IT and knowledge can be transferred, shared via email electronic or a local network (intranet). Moreover, creation of knowledge is constantly making knowledge of the business of growing giant that only new technology that allows storing, sorting, updating, sharing, use and development in a timely manner and stable.

v Knowledge management to help businesses:

- Always innovative, generating new ideas and thinking to exploit the potential of the organization.

- Received the experience and turn them into existing knowledge can be used for others as needed.

- Create conditions to easily find and reuse the know-how, expertise when stored in the existing form or in people's minds.

- Promote cooperation, knowledge sharing, learning and continuous improvement.

- Improve the quality of decision and quality of intellectual activity.

- Understand and value the contributions of intellectual property on the growth, efficiency organizing and mobilizing power.

Ultimate goal of knowledge management systems do not have to create modern information technology. Information technology is a vital tool of knowledge management. The end result that knowledge management was formed to create a continuous learning organization, including individuals who work closely together, constantly learning and knowledge sharing to create an the longevity or otherwise raise the IQ of organizations in the business environment changes constantly as it is today.

We have a few examples of knowledge management. First, in 1978 Honda wanted to create a new car designs because the Civic and Accord were too familiar. Work assigned to a group of young engineers (average age 27). The leader only two commands:

+ Design a product with other basic first.

+ Must cares are not expensive and not cheap (to make way for creativity).

A new slogan "Automobile Revolution" questions for group discussion: "If a car is a living entity, it will have evolved how?" The idea of the group: Trends "revolution" was a car must overcome the relation between people - traditional car → cars have shorter and higher, sphere will give more space inside and more energy efficient. Final product is released the line of City cars. It is "Tall Boy" which a series of special features with Combax engines consume less fuel than. This car is young supporters specially. Nearly 150 thousand City cars were sold in the two years since it was launched the first time in November 1981. This vehicle also continued to improve with the later version as that Hyper Turbo, Body Sonic, and High Roof. City cars were actually made to the public influence the early '80s with a series of awards and praise from the media. In view of knowledge management is an idea from a design cars (Tacit knowledge) through the sharing, acquisition, selection, evaluation and renewal of knowledge, the engineers at Honda launched a new model (Explicit knowledge) success on the market.

Another sample, Tam Viet Group in 2007, a vice president walked out and established his own company and directly competition with the Tam Viet Group. By applying knowledge management to share the habit, acquired, stored, evaluated knowledge and innovation, Tam Viet Group was not affected when a person had a high position to go out. All the knowledge in head all members are sharing and storage, such as lectures, customer relationships, unfinished projects....

In contrast the success, in Tuan Thanh company a head of sales department left the company and bring all the knowledge that he had in his head about customers relations as well as the expertise to build with our clients. The departure has caused damage to the company tens of billions of Vietnam Đong because lost many potential projects and the project is in the process of negotiation.

In Vietnam, Tam Viet Group has summarized the basis of Western experience combine with Vietnam culture to create models of knowledge management practices for themselves. Tam Viet model based application platform principles Yin and Yang, Feng-shui, combined with the formation of habits, including steps to mount the principles of Feng-shui: Talking, Collecting, Storing, Assessment, Knowledge innovation.

When knowledge is shared, the same time it which is happened all the left processes. Will be have people received, will be happen the keeping process, and selective. When you use that knowledge as knowledge is to be renovated and updated. Lacks one of the elements, knowledge management will not bring success results.

To sum up, knowledge management is essentially a process of knowledge creation, sharing knowledge and selection to provide correct time, right place, right person to make decisions quickly and accurately. The purpose of knowledge management is to improve the IQ of the company, creating a dynamic staff, job responsibilities and a sense of continuous learning. The result of this process will create an organization, a business with adaptive and highly competitive marketplace.
